December Favourites

Hope you’re having a magical time and you’re enjoying yourself! I find that the holiday period is perfect for grabbing a read or taking a look at a blog post, so I decided to share with you my favourite beauty products for December. This time it’s a mix of skincare, haircare and makeup.

Loose powders are a great way to lightly fix my undereye concealer and to keep the T-zone shine at bay without looking too powdery and unnatural. Hourglass powders are some of the best ones out there and their Veil Translucent Setting Powder always seemed interesting to me. However, what made me unsure about whether I should get it or not were all the reviews screaming ‘Don’t use it if you have oily or combination skin!’.
They actually wanted to say that you wouldn’t achieve a matte look with this powder. And they were right. But that doesn’t necessarily mean combination skins shouldn’t use it although, I don’t think I’d reach for it in the summer months.
But it’s a brilliant winter powder for me. The texture is really lightweight, it’s incredibly finely-milled, leaves a healthy glow on the skin and doesn’t look like an actual powder. It gives a blurred and soft finish, sets makeup (although I wear only tinted sunscreen and not foundation) and lasts a decent amount of time on me, I do have to reapply but maybe just once more in the day. I have the travel size, the regular one is way too big I think and I feel like this mini is going to last me through the whole winter. It gives a radiant look indeed and yes, it’s much more suitable for dry skin and you might not like it if yours is combination but in the freezing winter days, I simply love using it.

In the past 5-6 months my hair has been looking quite flat and lifeless. I stopped colouring and heat styling it but there was still no change. On a tough day I went online shopping (as you do) and one of the “You  might also like” products was the Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Shampoo. I’ve heard a lot about the brand but I’d never tried anything from them until then. I ordered the shampoo and washed my hair right after it arrived. The result was super clean, shiny and healthy-looking hair after one wash. I honestly couldn’t believe it and I thought it was just random. But my hair kept looking revitilised and more manageable whenever I used Viviscal, the shampoo feels clarifying but gentle at the same time and gives this incredible shine. I’m not sure if my hair growth has changed but I can really notice that it looks more voluminous and a bit fuller. I also think the price isn’t too high, I will keep using it and I might try more products from the range.

Just when I though I’d never go back to physical exfoliants, I got a mini of Kate Somerville‘s ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment. Well, this product is not your typical facial scrub, it actually combines physical and chemical exfoliation in one but the grains are really really tiny and not harsh, at all. The treatment looks like a green paste and has a slight fruity scent to it. It’s suggested to be used on wet skin and just 2 minutes are enough before washing it off. The formula contains fruit enzymes (Papaya, Pineapple and Pumpkin), Lactic Acid, Retinyl Palmitate and Aloe Vera. After using the mask, my skin feels so much smoother and softer, it looks radiant and makeup goes on top so much better, the dry patches are gone and it’s been really helpful for me in the colder weeks. I also love taking it away with me when I travel, it does such a good job at brightening dull skin.

And speaking of cold, I’ve been a bit under the weather lately, so I went back to an old favourite. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream is my emergency moisturiser for the times when my skin needs soothing, calming and hydration. Even my Cerave Lotion has been slightly stinging on the drier areas around my nose and mouth and only the FAB cream has been giving me instant relief. It’s really moisturising without leaving a greasy feel, my skin feels much more comfortable afterwards, thanks to the formula enriched with Shea Butter, Ceramide 3 and Colloidal Oatmeal that also shows great results on eczema-prone skin. I don’t see myself being without a tube of this cream in my bathroom cabinet, truly one for everyone in the family, especially in the winter.

A couple of weeks ago I got the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Luminizer in Fu$$y and I haven’t stopped wearing  it since that moment. I actually got the last one available and I opened it right after we left Sephora. If you’re new to the blog, I have to say, I’m not a lip gloss lover, I rarely like glosses but I fell in love with this one. It’s like no other lip gloss I’ve ever tried, the texture is so smooth and lightweight and milky, it’s not sticky at all and it also  conditions my lips, thanks to the Shea Butter in the formula. Usually, lip glosses dry out my lips and they feel sticky, this one is exactly the opposite. It has a slight tint of colour, this particular shade looks really romantic and pretty and has a lovely scent to it. I don’t know if my lips look fuller when I’m wearing it but the formula makes it an absolute favourite of mine. You can wear it over lipstick or lip pencil, I like wearing it on its own for a quick pick-me-up in the cold days. The applicator is quite chunky which surprisingly, makes the application process super easy and it picks up the exact amount of product you need. My better half was actually shocked that I wanted to get it and after that, as well, when he saw me applying it all the time, as he knows that I dislike most lip glosses.

These are the products that are saving my skin at the moment and those that I’m slightly obsessed with, I honestly haven’t been that excited about beauty in months and I hope I can revive the passion.
See you in a few days with my favourite beauty bits for 2018!
