The Floral Perfume That Surprises

Another fragrance review? Well, it seems that everyone in my family is currently rediscovering some perfumes and falling in love with ones that aren’t newly launched but worth a mention.

I love roses, rose water and skincare infused with it but somehow I’ve always thought that rose scents are too mature for me and even heavy. That’s why I wasn’t particularly interested in Valentino Donna EDP when it launched a couple of years ago. But when I was picking up a perfume for my dad about a week ago, I saw the beautiful bottle on the shelves, felt the gorgeous scent and purchased it.

Inside the studded heavy glass bottle the magic happens while accords of Italian Bergamot meet Bulgarian Rose, Iris Absolute, Patchouli, Leather and Vanilla. It is a floral scent but not one you’d expect, it is a powdery fragrance but not your typical one. Valentino Donna EDP is a surprise for the senses, it’s feminine, soft, leathery, modern. As it dries, the rose becomes more prominent, the scent is elegant, balanced, delicate. You may think it’s quite challenging to wear rose scents but this one is quite easy to wear while still remains unique.

There are notes in Valentino Donna EDP that remind me of La Vie est Belle but without being so sweet.
The longevity of the fragrance is amazing and I think it’s a great choice for spring and summer.

Donna is a classic like a Valentino gown but it’s also vibrant and fun. Don’t be afraid to take a look at this perfume just because you don’t like floral or powdery scents. Valentino Donna isn’t too overwhelming and is different from any other floral fragrance.

February Favourites

20170220_100731post

There were a few spring days in February which makes me quite happy because it means winter will be over soon. It’s been definitely a long and pretty cold one.

I finally have my own domain and I’m planning on doing more changes in future but I always prefer to do something first and then talk about it, so please keep your fingers crossed for me!

On to the beauty favourites now. I always like to try different micellar waters because it’s my preferred product for taking off makeup, so that I can cleanse properly afterwards. I’ve been using the Simple Kind to Skin Micellar Cleansing Water for the past few months and I really like it. It removes makeup pretty well while it feels gentle on the skin, it’s not sticky or drying and it’s budget-friendly.

The lipstick I’ve been loving in the month of February has been Estée Lauder Pure Colour Envy Sculpting Lipstick in the shade 410 Dynamic. If you’re wondering why the packaging looks different, it’s because I got it in a Christmas set. The formula is moisturising, creamy and easy to work with, the colour is opaque and lasts for about 3-4 hours on me. It browny pink and reminds me very much of my favourite Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer in 23 Blush Pop (you can see a swatch here) but this one is a bit warmer. The shade is beautiful and sophisticated-looking, I can’t wait for the new ones to be released soon.

I’m in love with my night hand cream. I use it at night because it smells just like This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, it’s so relaxing and calming. I got the Balance Me Super Moisturising Hand Cream with a magazine in London and I regret not getting more. The formula is enriched with Shea Butter and Lanolin, it feels soothing and hydrating. I really like that it absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy film, bonus is that the scent makes me fall asleep easier.

This giant bottle of the limited edition Jeremyville for Kiehl’s Crème de Corps has a great design, a handy pump and 500 ml of one of the best body moisturisers. I also use this product as a hand lotion after washing my hands (which is like a hundred times a day) and applying it is my favourite ritual before going to bed because it feels really soft on my winter skin. The texture is rich but not greasy or heavy, it does take a couple of minutes to absorb but it’s totally worth it. This is the only moisturiser that could transform my elbows completely in the most freezing winter ever, they are now baby soft and I’m not even exaggerating. If you haven’t tried it, pick up a sample.

Here we’ve come to the last but not least and certainly the hardest product to talk about today. And it’s not because it’s a fragrance and I’m not so good at describing fragrances but because it is Tom Ford Black Orchid. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and it is either a hate or an endless love but if I have to use one word to describe it, it would be timeless. I don’t know if I should say more because no words would do justice to this masterpiece, so just go and give it a sniff, if you haven’t already. I fell in love with it by just opening the cap and that was it.

These are my most-loved beauty products during February. Now I’m ready for sunnier days…

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Intense EDP

20170102_114152post

A few months ago, Guerlain expanded their La Petite Robe Noire range with one more fragrance. I have to admit, I’ve been staying away from it for a long time simply because the word “intense” made me think it would be a lot stronger than the original perfume. La Petite Robe Noire Eau Fraîche is one of my favourite scents but the original one always seemed a bit too heavy for my taste and this put me off when I saw the newest member of the family. But I was wrong…

The fragrance comes in the typical for the range bottle but in beautiful deep blue colours with the drawing of a little black dress. La Petite Robe Noire EDP Intense has notes of Cotton Candy, Fresh Bergamot and Blueberries in the top of the composition. You can still find Bulgarian Rose in the heart of the perfume and a base of Patchouli, White Musk, Sandalwood and Vanilla.

It starts off sweet but not sickly sweet, the cotton candy is the first one to be noticed but it’s not sharp and heavy, it’s grown-up, creamy and lovely. The blueberry scent is not fresh, it is warm and reminds me of the times when I make homemade blueberry sauce. For me, the Bulgarian rose is the balancing note, you can’t really smell it but it makes everything elegant and simply perfect. The drydown is beautiful with the combination of the sweet vanilla, the woody sandalwood and the soft white musk. This perfume has amazing longevity on me and I’m in love with it.

La Petite Robe Noire EDP Intense is irresistibly chic, charming, sophisticated. It’s definitely the sweetest of all fragrances from the range but I love how it is youthful yet elegant at the same time.

April Favourites

DSC_0110post DSC_0112postIt’s almost time to say goodbye to April and I have such mixed feelings for the last few weeks… April has been both, horrible and amazing and I hope May will be much sunnier, happier and brighter for all!

The only skincare item I’m featuring today is the Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream*. I’ve been using this eye cream for two months and with each day, I like it more and more. It’s just really hydrating and refreshing, it feels light on the skin and it’s also a great base for my concealer. I’ve done a full review on this product here, in case you’d like to know more about it.

Another Clinique product that I’ve been absolutely in love with is their Cheek Pop in the shade 03 Berry Pop* from their Pop Artistry Spring 2016 Collection (at least that’s when they arrived in Norway). This blush is so beautiful and juicy-looking on the cheeks, it’s a powder but feels creamy and light, it’s long-lasting and very pigmented. You can read more about the collection here.

The second make-up product in this month’s favourites is the mini YSL Effet Faux Cills Mascara. I took it away with me to London and I remembered how gorgeous this mascara is. It gives me fluttery lashes, it’s super black, it doesn’t clump or flake and I might need a full size of it although I have so many mascaras in my drawer at the moment.

I already shared with you here how much I like the Kérastase Spécifique Bain Clarifiant which is my current purifying shampoo. I use it once a week to just get this really clean and voluminous hair that we all love. I love that it’s not stripping and it doesn’t dry out my scalp, it’s very gentle but still purifying.

With spring days slowly coming to Norway, I started wearing a bit lighter fragrances. My most-worn one for April has been Agent Provocateur Fatale Pink. If you are fan of fragrances like Lancôme La Vie Est Belle, Versace Bright Crystal and Crystal Noir, you’re going to like this one, too. It has notes of Tangerine, Pear Blossom and Yuzu Whipped Cream, base of Bamboo, Musk and Black Saffron and heart notes of Pink Lotus and White Camellia. The scent is fresh, feminine and a bit sweet. A really nice fragrance for the spring days.

What have you been loving in the month of April?

The Perfumes I Can’t Get Enough Of…

DSC_0490post DSC_0497post
When it comes to fragrances, I find it very difficult to find the ones that I really love. There is always something that is missing or that is too much for my taste. I usually go through years without liking any new releases or times when I’d like to purchase 10 fragrances by once.

YSL Black Opium EDP has been on my wish list for a very long time but I was never sure if I really needed another winter fragrance. I can’t explain when I like EDP or EDT more, it’s different with every scent but with this particular one, the perfume choice was the right one for me. And when my boyfriend got it for my birthday, I was pleasantly surprised that he knew which one I’d prefer. Because YSL Black Opium EDP is deeper that the EDT but in a feminine way and without being heavy which makes it a great autumn/winter choice. For example, the original Opium is much stronger and grown-up for me but Black Opium EDP is more spicy and edgy.

It has top notes of Pink Pepper and Orange Blossom, heart notes of Jasmine and Coffee and base notes of Vanilla, Patchouli and Cedar Wood. I love that it’s not only a night time fragrance, it’s wearable and putting it on in the morning, guarantees you that you’re going to smell amazing even in the evening.

The newest member of the Black Opium family is the other fragrance that I can’t get enough of right now. YSL Black Opium Nuit Blanche EDP* is inspired by the annual arts festival in Paris that turns the French capital into a giant arts event for one “sleepless night”. Nuit Blanche is mysterious and unpredictable, sensual and feminine…
The bottle design of the two fragrances is similar with different details added like Nuit Blanche‘s white sequins and rose gold cap, such a beauty!

It has top notes of Silky Smooth Rice and Bourbon Pepper, heart notes of Orange Blossom and Coffee and base notes of Vanilla, Sandalwood and White Musk. This makes YSL Black Opium Nuit Blanche EDP* a bit more deep and woody than YSL Black Opium EDP but still soft, warm and sultry.

YSL Black Opium Nuit Blanche EDP* is already available in Norway and comes in 30 ml/ 520 kr and 50 ml/ 730 kr.

Black Opium EDP and YSL Black Opium Nuit Blanche EDP* are dark…sexy…seductive… The sparkly and glamorous packaging adds the finishing touches to these mesmerising fragrances. And I simply can’t get enough of them right now…
