Not for Me

IMG_3467post IMG_3470post IMG_3472post IMG_3473postI have never done a Disappointing products post so far, just because I’m careful with my purchases and I rarely regret making them. However, everybody has moments of random buys or hearing positive reviews but the product didn’t work for them.

First of all, I’d like to say that I can’t guarantee that a product that I like, would be good for you exactly how I can’t say that what I dislike, won’t work for you. We all have different skin types and preferences, so have that in mind.

I’m most likely to make a mistake with dry shampoos because I always try new ones. The Boots Paradise Island Dry Shampoo isn’t my first disappointment with such type of product. I’ve mentioned in my London Beauty Haul post that I don’t even remember throwing this one in my shopping basket and I still don’t know how I got it. I dislike the scent and the effect after I use the product. It smells so artificial and sweet of coconut that it’s unbearable. It also makes my hair feel sticky and doesn’t do anything to refresh it.

Next one is a CC Cream by Oriflame and it’s their Even Out CC Face Cream with SPF 20. I like that it has SPF, it makes the skin look smoother but it’s so dark and I have the lightest shade! Not sure if it has something to do with the trend in Scandinavia (Oriflame is a Swedish brand for those of you who didn’t know) girls to use a base 2-3 shades darker than their actual skin tone but it looks orange and dark and if this is the lightest shade, can’t imagine what would be with the other ones.

One day I saw a cute packaging and I needed a body scrub anyway, so I picked up the Kicks Body Scrub in Rhubarb and Strawberry. Everything looked so promising that once I got back home, I immediately jumped in the shower to try it. The cap was sealed, so I couldn’t smell it in the store…smart move. The smell is so plastic-y and unpleasant that I can’t even describe it. The product itself isn’t impressive either, it has too small particles, it actually foams up like a body wash rather than being an exfoliant and just doesn’t do anything for my skin.

Last but not least are two products that I really wanted to like, they’re both nail polishes, one is from Topshop and the other one is from Catrice. On the nails they look nothing like in the bottles. I normally like Topshop nail polishes but maybe the problem is that this one is from their Matte Nails range. Same with Catrice, it’s from their new Luxury Nudes line and it’s described as a Soft Matt. The shades are Sixteen Candles (Topshop) and 08 Little Dose of Rose (Catrice) and both of them look as if I’ve applied one of those paper correction fluids on my nails. In the bottles they look really pretty, the Topshop one seems to be a soft lavender shade and the Catrice one looks like a gentle pink with a bit of shimmer. In reality, they both look Barbie pink and it’s really intense and too much in your face.
The nail polishes are actually my biggest regret because my expectations were too high.

Have you been disappointed by a beauty product lately?

Three Do-It-All Beauty Gems

IMG_1661post IMG_1678post IMG_1679post

I recently shared with you that I love multi-purpose moisturisers and I realised that they’re a little bit neglected on this blog. I mean, I adore them, I carry them around with me, I use them all the time but I never mention them.
So, I decided to pick my three most loved multi-taskers and tell you more about them. What they have in common is that they’re tiny but a little goes a long way, they can be used on lips, elbows, knuckles, knees, eyebrows, lashes and practically on all areas with dry or hard skin.

Last month, I did a review on #LipGlam* (here), so I will just say that it’s the thickest one here, it’s a natural lip balm that is free from colourants, parabens and additives and contains natural lanolin. You need just a tiny bit of it for instant relief, it doesn’t irritate the skin and you can even use it on insect bites or burns.

The LUSH Ultrabalm has the biggest tin and is probably the softest of the three. Feels almost like a cream but then it melts into an oil and absorbs almost instantly. It contains Organic Jojoba Oil, Candelilla Wax and Rose Wax. As you can see it’s vegan because the Beeswax version was reformulated and now it contains its alternative – the Candelilla Wax. The texture is a little bit grainy but I don’t think it would irritate more sensitive skin. I personally like the smell, to me it smells of something like a mixture of honey and tahini if it makes sense but many people hate it. It was a random purchase by my boyfriend but I’m really happy with this product, it’s a great discovery. However, the price for a tub in Norway is double, so I’d be picking up another one if I’m going to the UK.

Last but definitely not least is the one that made me fall in love with multi-purpose moisturisers. I was about 11-12 years old when I got the chance to try it and I have no idea how many little jars of it I’ve gone through since then. It’s the Oriflame Tender Care in Almond but I’ve tried all of them, they have so many different scents, I’ve had the lip balm stick version as well, the original one is now in my handbag, it’s just a must-have for me. The consistency is something in between the first two, it’s thicker than Ultrabalm but less thick than #LipGlam*, sinks into the skin pretty fast without leaving uncomfortable feeling. Contains Beeswax and Vegetable Oils and I often use it on my heels after a long and exhausting day.

Do you have a favourite multi-purpose moisturiser?

Empties #3

IMG_1517post

Empties time! Actually some of the products have been used up months ago but it turned out that I kept them in another box *sigh* and I was trying to accumulate a little bit more and at the end it turned out it was too much *sigh again* but hopefully you won’t be bored.
I decided to group them and here’s the result:

Face products

Ikarov rose water – I love pure rose water but this just wasn’t my favourite. It wasn’t bad, it didn’t irritate my skin but it didn’t even smell of rose water, I just wanted to try a different one but won’t be repurchasing.
L’Occitane Angelica Ultra Matte Fluid – one of my 2014 favourites! I love this as a primer on my combination skin, it’s one of the loveliest products I’ve ever used and that’s why I wanted to try the following product as well.
L’Occitane Angelica Eye Roll-On – refreshing eye gel, I kept it in the fridge for a cooling effect, I love it for the spring and summer.
Oriflame Essentials Eye Contour Gel – another eye product, another gel with cooling effect. It was a nice one but nothing special.
NUXE Micellar Foam Cleanser with Rose Petals (review here) – I used this up such a long time ago and somehow the bottle remained hidden somewhere. It’s a really gentle cleanser, I loved using it in the morning, smells incredible and I’d repurchase.
Bilka Cleansing Milk with White Grapes Extract – this is suitable for dry skin but it didn’t make mine greasy, it wasn’t heavy but it didn’t remove make-up so well.
Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer – this was my second tube and it means that I really like this concealer, I’d definitely repurchase.
Oriflame The One Volume Blast Mascara – this mascara didn’t wow me in terms of volume but it’s a great one for separating your lashes and that’s why I’m missing it. I always used it before applying another one. More about the mascara here.
Oriflame Very Me Prep Me Perfect – this primer actually surprised me, it made my skin smoother and the rest of the products glided on easily after this.

Shower products

Cottage Exfoliating Shower Gel with Violet Sugar – this one smells amazing, cleanses the skin while gently exfoliates it, it’s affordable and I’d repurchase it.
L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil – probably my favourite body wash. It’s so moisturising that you don’t even need to use a body lotion/butter after that. Have repurchased and will always repurchase it!
Faith in Nature Pomegranate and Rooibos Shower Gel* – I’ve included this one in a monthly favourites, I really liked it, I’m curious about the other scents so I’d be picking up another one.

Hair products

Elvital Volume Collagen Shampoo – Was a little bit heavy on my hair and I actually prefer some other Elvital shampoos more so I won’t be repurchasing this one.
Vichy Dercos Mineral Soft Shampoo – I wrote a post here about how soft my hair gets with this shampoo, I liked the gentle scent and the gel-like texture and the only thing that bothered me was the uncomfortable pump.
Toni and Guy Cleanse Dry Shampoo – this dry shampoo has a very strong fragrance, it’s very heavy, leaves too much residue and at the same time makes the hair quite sticky. At the end of the day my scalp feels very itchy and it’s really unpleasant. Won’t repurchase.
Batiste Floral and Fruity Blush Dry Shampoo – I find this one much better, smells fresh, yes, it leaves some residue but after combing your hair it goes away, gives you volume, texture and does its job good. I’d repurchase.

Masks and samples

Montagne Jeunesse Peel-Off Masque – I’d definitely repurchase this face mask, it has a cooling effect, it’s easy to apply and remove, makes your skin soft and it’s quite relaxing when you have it on.
Montagne Jeunesse Mud Pac – this one smells very strong, it’s almost irritating. When the mask starts to dry, it gets flaky and everything falls down, I wouldn’t get it again.
DHC Velvet Skin Coat Primer – it has silicone-based formula and it does makes your skin smoother and prepares it for your foundation but it doesn’t really fill in pores, at least for me.
Clarins Eye Revive Beauty Flash – this is supposed to do the same as the famous Beauty Flash Balm but for your under eye area and you still have to use an eye product, it’s not replacing the eye care step. However, for me it didn’t change anything, I have pretty dark circles, I’m not sure if this is the reason but there was no change after applying this product.
Dior Addict IT-Lash – it’s a very nice mascara, I like the brush but it didn’t do something so special that I’d decide to pick the full-sized one.
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair – I’ve been reading and hearing so much about this product and when I got a sample to try, I was really disappointed that it broke me out straight on the next morning after applying it the night before. Now I’m not sure if I’d give it another go or I’ll just forget about it. If you’ve seen the full size in a latest InstaHaul on my Instagram, I actually decided to give it away as a present.
Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash – this cleanser is actually 2-in-1 product because it has tiny scrub particles, I love the scent and it was very pleasant to use it, not sure if I can judge by such a small sample but it didn’t break me out, it wasn’t stripping and I liked it.
Bliss Ex-‘glow’-sion – this moisturiser was a little bit too heavy on my combination skin and made it shiny but again, has a wonderful scent.
L’Occitane Angelica Hydration Cream – I love the Angelica range but I have to say that this must be my least favourite product that I’ve tried from it mainly because of the texture and the smell (it was different than the typical for the series). However, I can’t talk about the effect because it’s hard to conclude something for a skincare product in such a short time.

Have you tried any of these products?
