May Favourites

There’s one more day left in the month of May and I just wanted to show you a few of the products I’ve been enjoying using in the past few weeks. I’ve been testing so many items this month that I didn’t manage to share anything on the blog but I’m trying to be active on Instagram despite their algorithm getting worse and worse.

My skin is combination with shiny T-zone and visible pores. I also struggle with hyperpigmentation issues after blemishes heal, so about 6-7 weeks ago, I started using The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. It’s supposed to reduce the appearance of spots, to balance the sebum production and brighten the skin. The texture of the serum is a bit gloopy but spreads easily and leaves a slightly sticky residue. I always follow with another product, so this isn’t a concern for me, it doesn’t interfere with the rest of my routine, I just make sure I’m not using Vitamin C when I’m applying this serum. I haven’t noticed a difference in terms of shine around my T-zone and the size of my pores but I’ve been definitely getting less spots (it also soothes active ones) and my pigmentation seems to be fading much faster than usual. My complexion looks brighter even if I use The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% only once a day. It’s suggested to use twice a day but I usually reach for Vitamin C in the morning and they shouldn’t be mixed together, so I use the serum mostly in the evening and about 30 minutes after applying Differin or any other retinoid. I know that Niacinamide helps my skin a lot, I’ve tried it in moisturisers, cleansers, serums and that’s a great budget option, so I really need to repurchase this product.

I’m back to Norway and I’m really happy to witness warmer and sunnier days. The sun here (whenever there is sunshine) shines much brighter and stronger than many other places I’ve been to and sun protection is very important for me, especially considering I’m using acids on a daily basis. And although I’m always on the hunt for the best face sunscreen for combination skin, I think I’ve found my favourite lip SPF. L’Occitane Pivoine Sublime Lip Balm SPF 25 in the shade Rose Nude is a tinted lip balm with added sun protection. It looks really bright in the bullet but it gives me just a hint of soft pink tint and a healthy sheen without being too shiny. The texture of the balm is smooth and feels weightless on the lips, it’s not thick like many lip balms with SPF. The cap twists off at the base and I think it’s a nice idea because often lipsticks and lip balms tend to open in handbags and then it can get quite messy and not really hygienic. I love that it’s tinted because I tend to apply only a face sunscreen and this lip balm on a Sunday morning and go out for a short run in the nature, it makes me look a bit more fresh without applying makeup but they also have a clear version of it.

In the past year, I’ve been trying to reduce the amount of items containing sulphates in my everyday life, mainly because of a skin issue that occured. And it hasn’t been that easy, to be fair. Everything around us contains sulphates and I often need to place online orders for products all the way from the US or go to specific shops where prices are much higher. So, I was pleasantly surprised to see a sulphate-free shampoo in my local supermarket. Unfortunately, the range doesn’t seem to cater an exact product for my type of hair but I picked up one of the shampoos. L’Oréal Paris Botanicals Fresh Care with Lavender Shampoo aims to soothe and nourish sensitive scalps and fine, fragile hair. My hair isn’t fine but my scalp is quite sensitive, so I decided to try it out. As a person who goes through shampoo incredibly quickly, I appreciate the fact that this one comes in a big 400 ml bottle with a pump that actually works and dispenses the right amount of product. It has a subtle lavender scent which I personally like but people who aren’t fans of herbal scents, probably wouldn’t be so happy about it. The formula is vegan and contains no sulphates, no parabens, colourants or silicones. It’s enriched with organic lavender essential oil, soya and coconut oils.  It leaves my hair clean but not stripped, it makes it soft, shiny and easy to manage, I really like this shampoo and I’m pleasantly surprised. The packaging is made from 100% recycled materials and I think I might try more from the range.

Usually, my hands are really dry in the winter but they get better during the warmer months even without the help of a hand cream. However, this year, I’ve been struggling a bit with the condition of my hands and a few weeks ago, it went to a point where my hands looked as if it’s December, peeling, bleeding and hurting. I decided to try the Neal’s Yard Remedies Geranium & Orange Hand Cream and it didn’t disappoint. I like to use it before going to bed because I’ll usually apply a thick layer of it but it actually sinks into the skin quite nicely. It has a subtle herbal scent and contains Glycerin, Soya Oil, Almond Oil, Beeswax, Aloe Vera Leaf Juice and 92% of the ingredients are of organic origin. It’s really nourishing and hydrating and I’d recommend it in any season.

But here is a summer favourite. I’ve had the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream for quite a while but when people said it had a lot of shimmer in it, I just wasn’t sure if I wanted to try it, at all. And then everyone thinking it’s a miracle product that would erase your cellulite, no, it won’t. But it contains antioxidants that have an anti-ageing effect, a blend of nourishing oils and caffeine and together they work to smooth out the skin, to support natural circulation and to lock in moisture. And that’s what this cream does without feeling heavy or leaving a sticky residue. I’m in love with the exotic nutty scent, it’s not overpowering or too sweet and lingers even on the next day. At first, the texture seems thick but the cream almost melts onto the skin and absorbs quite quickly leaving just a slight hydrating layer on top… and a lot of shimmer. That’s the only thing I dislike in this cream, it’s really shimmery and it’s the only shimmery product I keep using. And I even got a second tub of it.

It’s interesting how something doesn’t need to be perfect to be good and even amazing, more so when we talk about bodycare products. This is what I’ve been loving in the month of May when it comes to beauty and I guess we’re all ready to welcome the summer months.

Empties #12

20170304_120507postWe’re already in March and this is actually my first post with empty products for 2017. There are some huge favourites of mine that I’ve used up and now I’m really missing them.

20170304_121201post

Skincare and Makeup Products

KICKS Clearing Mud Mask – That’s a second tube of this mask after the first one was sent to me to try. It has Salycilic Acid in it, it’s purifying, washes off easily and the price is good, as well;
Kaufmanns Haut-und-Kinder-Creme  – Another tube of one of my favourite multipurpose moisturisers. It’s now a staple for me, it saves my lips and knuckles in the winter;
Superdrug Clearly Youthful Resurfacing Night Serum – Unfortunately, this comes in a really small size and I didn’t pick up another bottle of it from the UK. A fantastic budget serum with Lactic Acid  that makes my skin look brighter and clearer;
Balea Vital Intensive SerumBalea seem to know how to do good budget serums, too. They always have pumps and feel incredibly nourishing and soothing;
Clinique Superdefense Night Recovery Moisturiser – That’s my second jar of this night cream and it’s one of my favourite ones, I’ve spoken a lot about it but here’s the full review in case you want to know more;
REN Flash Defence Anti-Pollution Mist – I believe this is my second bottle of this mist, as well. I love facial mists and I adore this one. I have detailed information about it here, I love using it before makeup, on top of makeup, on days when I don’t wear makeup, it’s refreshing, hydrating and protecting;
Shiseido Ibuki Softening Concentrate – This mini was great for travelling, the purchase was inspired by mum who loves it and uses it as a serum or just as an additional step to add a bit more moisture and care to the skin;
Tromborg Multivitamin Facial Mask – This was just a sample but it was enough for me to know the mask is amazing. It feels light on the skin, it’s a gel and at first you think it doesn’t do much but when you wash it off, you’re left with a lovely glow, the pores look diminished and the complexion in general is fresher and healthier;
Sephora Pomegranate Sleeping Mask – I love these masks, they seem small but I can use them up to 6-7 times. I don’t like them for travelling, though because you can’t store them and keep them fresh. This mask makes my skin tone a bit more even and fresh-looking;
Sephora Ginseng Eye Mask – The eye masks are lovely, as well, refreshing and soothing;
Rodial Dragon’s Blood Eye Masks – These ones contain a lot of serum in the bags which I tend to pour into travel pots and use it under my regular eye cream. The patches feel cooling and hydrating and I love them, wish they were more affordable;
Purederm Collagen Eye Zone Mask – Eye masks enriched with Collagen, Vitamin E and Green Tea Extract that brighten the area under my eyes. The serum absorbs really quickly after removing the patches, it feels refreshing and I’ll be repurchasing these;
Purederm Collagen Make-up Remover Cleansing Towelettes – It’s quite interesting how I really dislike facial wet wipes and use them only when I travel, yet I have at least a pack of empty ones in every post like this one. The collagen ones must be my least favourite of all Purederm I’ve tried, they just seem to not remove makeup that well and feel a bit more harsh on the skin. I’d stick to the tea tree ones;
L’Occitane x Pierre Hermé Paris Pamplemousse Rhubarbe  Lip Balm – You may already know I have a soft spot for L’Occitane limited edition lip balms. This one was a memory of our trip to Munich around Christmas holidays and this is one more reason to love it;
Avène Cicalfate Repair Cream – I have a full review on this product here. It can be used on face and body and helped me against the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation I tend to get quite often;
Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up Remover – A travel mini of a cult classic, you can’t go wrong with this one;
L’Oréal Skin Perfection Perk-up Cream and Eye Care – That’s a great duo if you want a tinted moisturiser for your face and under the eyes because they even out the skin tone but also have skincare benefits. It looks lovely once applied on the skin and it was actually mum who got me into these;
Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – I have mixed feelings towards this mascara maybe because I had really high hopes considering how many people compare it to Benefit’s Roller Lash. I quite like how fluttery it makes my eyelashes look…when it’s near the time to throw it in the bin. The rest of the time, the formula is just too wet, it doesn’t give me the separation, volume and curl that Roller Lash provides and I’m not so sure if I love it;
La Roche-Posay Respectissime Volume Mascara – On the other hand, this is a brilliant mascara that I want to find a full size of. It gives a similar to the YSL Effet Faux Cills look and doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes;
Essence Mini Lipgloss – These are some of the loveliest affordable glosses and the mini was given to me by a dear friend, I love the colour and it was nice having it in my hand luggage during my travels;
Dior DIORSKIN Forever Perfect Skin-Perfecting Foundation SPF 35 – The best foundation for my skin type, I’m actually quite sad that I’ve used it up because I don’t seem to have a backup. You can read my full review on it here;
Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer – Not sure how many times I’ve spoken about it and how many tubes I’ve used up but you can find my thoughts on it here;
Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector SPF 20 – I use it on its own or as a primer and I like how it evens out the skin tone and makes everything look smoother and natural.

Body and Hair Products

Lumene Cloudberry Hand Cream – The same dear friend of mine gave it to me and I couldn’t thank her enough! This is such a hydrating hand cream and at the same time doesn’t feel greasy on the hands. The scent is subtle, so it can be used by men, too;
Neal’s Yard Remedies Bee Lovely Hand Cream – All the hand creams I use up are ones I love and this has a great orange scent combined with wonderful moisturising properties;
The Body Shop Frosted Plum Hand Cream – Reminds me of cosy winter days that were not so long ago, actually. The scent is not too overpowering and the cream is very nice itself but I wish it wasn’t limited edition;
Yves Rocher Pear & Cocoa Hand Cream – I really like the brand’s hand creams and when a Christmas scent is added, I’m in love. Now that I’m smelling it again, I wish I took more of it during the holidays;
Yves Rocher Pear & Cocoa Bath & Shower Gel – The corresponding body wash was amazing, as well. I love that scent wasn’t too overpowering or sweet but still remained different and special;
Yves Rocher Almond Orange Blossom Relaxing Shower Oil – I never knew the brand had shower oils! I really enjoyed this one, it feels gentle on the skin, it’s not really foamy, it has a slightly herbal scent which I personally like and I really want to try more;
L’Oréal Arginine Resist Double Elixir Express Conditioner – I always use leave-in conditioners, I just love them and these spray ones are quite easy to use. Plus, in the winter my hair tends to get a bit more flyaways and knots than usual and this product did a pretty good job at helping me with that;
L’Oréal Elseve Nutri-Gloss Shampoo – When it comes to shampoos, I go through so many so quickly that I don’t even look in details what’s in stores at the moment. That’s why I tend to go for the ones I know like this one here that makes my hair really shiny and clean;
La Roche-Posay Lipikar Fluide – It has a light texture that feels soothing and nourishing, the pump is really handy and I’d purchase it again;
L’Occitane Foot Cream – This mini came in the brand’s advent calendar and it helped me a lot during the freezing winter nights because I woke up to the softest feet on the next morning. I might need a full size of it;
L’Occitane Cherry Blossom Shimmering Lotion – The range is probably my favourite of all L’Occitane ones but this lotion is too shimmery for my taste, so it was nice trying it but I would stick to the cherry blossom body wash, hand cream and the fragrance;
This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray – I’m not sure if it really helps you sleep better but the scent is definitely relaxing and calming.

This is everything I’ve used up lately, now I’m off to make a list with what I need to repurchase.

Empties #10

20161103_112150postAs I always end up collecting way too many empty products and writing a novel about them, this time I decided to make it quite simple. There are just a couple of make-up items and the rest is skincare and body products.

Make-up
Maybelline ColourSensational Shine Gloss in 610 Naked Star – Actually, I couldn’t finish this gloss and it has expired but I liked it because it wasn’t a sticky one and looked nice on its own or on top of lipsticks;
Clinique Airbrush Concealer in 04 Neutral Fair – One of my favourite concealers, it’s supposed to be brightening and it really does illuminate quite nicely but I also used it to cover up some imperfections around the face and it does great job at this, as well. I think I need the full size of it now;

Skincare
Balea Purifying Mask – That’s a great budget clay mask and I already got another sachet. It comes in a 2-pack and one sachet contains a lot of product, so I always end up using it twice (don’t ask how I close the sachet that is once opened) but it makes my skin soft and radiant;
KICKS Clearing Mud Mask – This is probably my favourite KICKS face mask, they released four a few months ago and this one is already used up. It doesn’t dry out my skin but it purifies and leaves it smooth and glowy;
Sephora Pearl Face Mask – I love Sephora sheet masks, they are so relaxing and heavenly-scented. This one is brightening and moisturising and it’s one of my most purchased ones from the brand;
Garnier Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask – I used about three packs of this face mask because it’s so popular at the moment and I really wanted to like it. It smells amazing and feels cooling but it wasn’t really hydrating on my skin and I have combination skin. Also, it leaves my face quite wet and feels sticky even after massaging in what’s left from the serum;
Clinique Smart Custom-Repair Serum – This small tube didn’t last much, so I couldn’t see if it really firms and repairs the skin but it felt soothing and moisturising;
Neal’s Yard Remedies Beauty Sleep Concentrate – Another travel size serum that I tried. Feels like rich cream but at the same time it’s light when applied and doesn’t make my skin more oily than it is, it doesn’t break me out and I wake up to radiant and healthy skin;
Neal’s Yard Remedies White Tea Facial Mist – I used this one before going to bed because the scent is really relaxing. It’s calming and moisturising although the way the spray works is quite heavy and that is probably the only thing I didn’t like about it;
REN Flash Defence Anti-Pollution Mist – Really missing this one. I used to spray it multiple times throughout the day. The mist is very fine, it hydrates the skin, it’s refreshing and also gives protection against the environmental aggressors. I’ve done a full review on it here;
Balea Almond Blossom Extract Toner – It’s suitable for dry and sensitive skin and although mine is combination, I quite liked this toner. It has a nice and light scent and it doesn’t strip my skin;
Ziaja Sensitive Micellar Water – This is my second bottle of this budget micellar water. It contains no parabens, alcohol and perfume, feels gentle on the skin and removes make-up quite well;
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion + – I have a travel size of this moisturiser whenever I travel because it never lets me down. Clinique moisturisers are some of my favourite ones anyway but this one works perfect when I’m away because it gives me the right amount of hydration without breaking me out and without being too rich and heavy on the skin;

Body and Hair
Yves Rocher Lotus Flower Shower Gel – The brand has incredible scents and this body wash proves it one more time, it’s delicate and beautiful. Also, I love the lightweight packaging;
Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia Moisturising Perfumed Body Lotion – My summer body lotion. Feels very light on the skin but hydrates it really well and is also beautifully-scented;
Balea MED Sensitive Shampoo – During autumn, my scalp gets a bit irritated. This year is actually even worse, so I’ve been looking for a gentle shampoo. I’ve heard good things about the medical line from Balea and decided to give this one a go. It is supposed to be for sensitive scalp but it didn’t do much for my irritated skin, unfortunately;
COLAB Sheer + Invisible New York Dry Shampoo – I should have taken more minis when I was in London because I really like this dry shampoo, I’ve talked about it many times on the blog;
Balea Hand Cream for very dry skin – This was one of my handbag hand creams. It smells very nice, takes a couple of minutes to absorb but doesn’t feel sticky or greasy.

This is everything I’ve used up in the past few weeks and I’m quite happy I don’t have the huge pile I normally collect before sharing my experience with the products.

Facial Mists and My Love for Them

DSC_0275post

My love affair with face mists has been really strong and long, it started back in my teenage years when I loved using pure rose water spray and I have to say, I still enjoy floral waters. That was the only skincare product I used at the time and my skin was amazing, I wish it looked like this now. Whether it is to refresh our faces in the summer and to make them look more dewy or to give our skin the needed drop of extra hydration in the winter (be careful not to spray it while you’re outside in the cold), nothing beats the beauty mists.

Nowadays, there are face mists for any concern and with a lot of powerful active ingredients to give us that healthy glow, calm complexion and fresh feeling. Facial mists are a genius way to keep our skin hydrated all day long because they can be applied before or after make-up, on top of make-up throughout the day and you don’t even have to touch your face.

Here are some of my favourite and most-used beauty mists at the moment:

Anti-pollution Face Mist
Lately I’ve been very much into this anti-pollution Korean trend and that’s why I have the REN Flash Defence Anti-Pollution Mist* in my handbag all the time. You can read my full review here. This isn’t just a refreshing and cooling face mist, it also protects against environmental aggressors with Zinc and Manganese Amino Acids to track down free radicals and protect skin from oxidative stress. Perfect for spritzing throughout the day.

Make-up Fixing Spray with Skincare Benefits
L’Occitane Peony Perfecting Mist is a great multi-tasker, it refreshes the skin, helps to set make-up and keeps the moisture locked in for a really long time. The more I use it, the better my skin texture gets, thanks to the Peony Extract. It smells divine and it comes in a handbag-friendly bottle. I have to say, this is my most-loved one at the moment.

Face Mist Toner for Oily/Combination and Blemish-Prone Skin
It’s quite frustrating I can’t find La Roche-Posay Serozinc in Norway but I’m really happy I finally got to try it. It’s basically a Zinc Sulphate solution, the mist is really fine, probably one of the best I’ve ever come across and it kind of mattifies my combination skin but without drying it out. It also heals blemishes much quicker than usual and feels very soothing. An absolute must-have for me.

Do-It-All Face Mist
The following face mist is my favourite post-workout one, my favourite long car ride one, favourite spritz before applying my facial oil, the one to have while I’m flying or to use in addition to other skincare products and enhance their effect…just my favourite do-it-all beauty mist. I’m talking about Maya Water Facial Mist with Organic Acai which is made with Norwegian thermal spa water and contain antioxidants. I’ve already used up two of the brand’s face mists that they kindly sent to me to try and this is a third bottle that I purchased myself because I adore it.

Bedside Face Spray
This isn’t necessarily a face mist supposed to be used before bed but Neal’s Yard Remedies White Tea Facial Mist feels so relaxing that I keep this mini bottle on my bedside table. It contains antioxidants to refresh and hydrate the skin and the herbal scent is very calming. I’m now curious to try the rest of the brand’s toners.

These are my current favourite face mists, I’d be glad to hear your recommendations for anti-ageing or Vitamin C ones, for example. Please, do share them with me!

Army of Minis #5

DSC_0345post
Me and my boyfriend are headed to his home country and then to my home country for some relaxing time and packing for this type of trips has always been a bit difficult. We use a car, a ship, planes and basically, I’m trying to be prepared with a few little bags with essentials for each vehicle. I won’t show you all that but here are a few mini products that are going to make my packing and travelling life a bit easier.

Neal’s Yard Remedies Rejuvenating Frankincense Refining Cleanser – A couple of months ago, I got a set of mini Neal’s Yard Remedies products and I still haven’t tried many of them, so I though it would be the best time to do it now;
– Neal’s Yard Remedies White Tea Facial Mist – I love floral and herbal face mists and this one can be kept even in your handbag;
Clinique Smart Custom-Repair Eye Treatment – Most of my travel eye creams are too small and I get 3 to 5 uses out of them, this one is actually half the full size which means I’ll be able to have hydrated under eye area for several weeks;
Clinique Smart Custom-Repair Serum – It’s quite difficult for me to find travel-friendly serums and I’m really happy that this time I have two. This one evens out the skin tone, gives radiance and leaves the skin firm and hydrated;
– Neal’s Yard Remedies Beauty Sleep Concentrate – That’s the second one and it’s actually more of a night cream but feels and smells very soothing and relaxing, it’s not greasy at all and the skin feels amazing on the next day;
Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturiser SPF 20 – I haven’t tried this moisturiser but I like the idea of having a tiny pot of SPF, especially when I’m going to be exposed to sun and about 20 degrees higher temperature than what’s in Norway at the moment;
Essence Mini Lip Gloss – I love Essence glosses, I’ve used up a few of them and I’m very happy that my dear friend sent a set of minis to me, so that I can have this one in my handbag;
Original Source Mint and Tea Tree Shower Gel – The brand has so many scents to choose from and it’s pretty hard to pick one, actually but this has such a fresh and uplifting smell that I had to take a mini of it;
Babor Revitalising Shampoo – I’ve tried a few products from them and I loved all but this shampoo is new to me, so I’m excited to see how it works on my hair;
Rituals Magic Touch Cherry Blossom & Rice Milk Whipped Body Cream – So happy to have this sachet, Rituals have some of the most amazing body products and I might need to get a full size of this one;
L’Occitane Milk Concentrate – Another lovely body moisturiser! I used to hate body creams in sachets but they are actually so comfortable to travel with as they never spill or make a mess;
COLAB Sheer + Invisible New York Dry Shampoo – Haven’t tried the scent but I love their dry shampoos and I always need a mini when I travel…especially in the summer;
Paco Rabanne Olympéa Aqua EDT – How cute is this mini bottle?! The scent is very fresh and feminine, it’s perfect for the warmer months and having a 5 ml or 10 ml bottle of a fragrance even when you’re out in the city and not necessarily travelling, is the best thing. It’s portable and easy to carry around, it’s enough for much more than just a couple of spritzes and it won’t get lost in your bag because it’s not super tiny.

My minis and I are ready for this new adventure and I hope you’re having an amazing summer!
