Facial Mists and My Love for Them

My love affair with face mists has been really strong and long, it started back in my teenage years when I loved using pure rose water spray and I have to say, I still enjoy floral waters. That was the only skincare product I used at the time and my skin was amazing, I wish it looked like this now. Whether it is to refresh our faces in the summer and to make them look more dewy or to give our skin the needed drop of extra hydration in the winter (be careful not to spray it while you’re outside in the cold), nothing beats the beauty mists.

Nowadays, there are face mists for any concern and with a lot of powerful active ingredients to give us that healthy glow, calm complexion and fresh feeling. Facial mists are a genius way to keep our skin hydrated all day long because they can be applied before or after make-up, on top of make-up throughout the day and you don’t even have to touch your face.

Here are some of my favourite and most-used beauty mists at the moment:

Anti-pollution Face Mist
Lately I’ve been very much into this anti-pollution Korean trend and that’s why I have the REN Flash Defence Anti-Pollution Mist* in my handbag all the time. You can read my full review here. This isn’t just a refreshing and cooling face mist, it also protects against environmental aggressors with Zinc and Manganese Amino Acids to track down free radicals and protect skin from oxidative stress. Perfect for spritzing throughout the day.

Make-up Fixing Spray with Skincare Benefits
L’Occitane Peony Perfecting Mist is a great multi-tasker, it refreshes the skin, helps to set make-up and keeps the moisture locked in for a really long time. The more I use it, the better my skin texture gets, thanks to the Peony Extract. It smells divine and it comes in a handbag-friendly bottle. I have to say, this is my most-loved one at the moment.

Face Mist Toner for Oily/Combination and Blemish-Prone Skin
It’s quite frustrating I can’t find La Roche-Posay Serozinc in Norway but I’m really happy I finally got to try it. It’s basically a Zinc Sulphate solution, the mist is really fine, probably one of the best I’ve ever come across and it kind of mattifies my combination skin but without drying it out. It also heals blemishes much quicker than usual and feels very soothing. An absolute must-have for me.

Do-It-All Face Mist
The following face mist is my favourite post-workout one, my favourite long car ride one, favourite spritz before applying my facial oil, the one to have while I’m flying or to use in addition to other skincare products and enhance their effect…just my favourite do-it-all beauty mist. I’m talking about Maya Water Facial Mist with Organic Acai which is made with Norwegian thermal spa water and contain antioxidants. I’ve already used up two of the brand’s face mists that they kindly sent to me to try and this is a third bottle that I purchased myself because I adore it.

Bedside Face Spray
This isn’t necessarily a face mist supposed to be used before bed but Neal’s Yard Remedies White Tea Facial Mist feels so relaxing that I keep this mini bottle on my bedside table. It contains antioxidants to refresh and hydrate the skin and the herbal scent is very calming. I’m now curious to try the rest of the brand’s toners.

These are my current favourite face mists, I’d be glad to hear your recommendations for anti-ageing or Vitamin C ones, for example. Please, do share them with me!

Evening Skincare Routine | Summer 2016

On Wednesday I showed you my simple summer morning skincare routine and it’s only logical the evening one to follow.

I decided to feature a few more products that I use several times a week and not every day but they are still part of my skincare rituals and that’s why they’re here.

The first step is always taking my make-up off and I usually use micellar water to do this. The Ziaja Sensitive Skin Micellar Water is very gentle, feels delicate on the skin but takes off make-up really well. After this, I usually continue with an oil cleanser but I’ve been using the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Micro Cleansing Foam* for the past month or so because it’s something between a cream and oil cleanser and I really like it. It’s very calming and leaves my skin clean, soft and hydrated. I’ve done a full review on this product, so you can take a look at it here. To tone my skin and to remove any last traces of impurities, I use Clarins Alcohol-Free Toning Lotion with Iris, it’s good even around the eyes, doesn’t strip my skin and feels refreshing.

At the moment, I’m using a drugstore serum and it’s the Superdrug Simply Pure Hydrating Serum which is a brilliant basic one for dehydrated and sensitive skin. It feels comforting, it makes my skin glowy and fresh-looking. I’ve been using it for just about a month and I’m waiting once it’s been at least 3 months to do a proper review on it but so far, I think it’s a great find.

Then I apply my eye cream and it’s still the same as the one in my morning skincare routine, I just love the Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream*. Day or night, it’s the one to give me hydration, brightness and care in a fragrance-free formula.

I love applying facial oils and I simply adore them on slightly damp skin, that’s why I use the thermal spray from Maya Water Facial Mist with Organic Acai* and then apply the Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil. It spreads evenly, nourishes the skin and gives a wonderful glow.

For an extra drop of hydration, I finish off with Clinique Superdefense Night Recovery Moisturiser*. It’s radiance in a jar, containing Vitamin C and Vitamin E to maintain healthy and radiant skin, Ergothioneine which is an antioxidant amino acid that helps protect the skin from pollution and Rosemary Leaf Extract for strengthening the skin’s barrier from environmental aggressors, while stimulating natural collagen production. You can read my review on it here.

Before bed, I like to apply the Kaufmanns multi-purpose cream in a tube on my lips. I’ve talked about this one a lot, it’s just amazing for dry lips, it heals them with a couple of applications, it’s affordable and I always stock up on it when I’m in Germany.

Additional care
There are two exfoliating products I’ve been using the most in the past few months. Facial scrubs aren’t something that I reach for often but I’m really enjoying the Dior Instant Gentle Exfoliant with Pure Lily Extract because it’s gentle and creamy, it doesn’t dry out my skin and makes it look luminous. In case you’d like to read more about this product, I’ve done a full review on it here. I use it a couple of times a week, just like the Naturally Radiant Glycolic Overnight Peel from Superdrug (I always use them on different days). This tiny tube contains a clear gel that feels a bit sticky when you apply it but the feeling disappears quickly. I use it at night and then wash it off the next morning. My skin gets really soft and radiant with it which is a bit of a surprise as I got this product on a whim. I don’t think my face gets along with Glycolic Acid that well, I’ve had pretty bad experience with some skincare products containing the ingredient but this affordable peel really does a great job.

I have combination skin, so a blemish or two will appear from time to time. In this case, I use a few drops of The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil on a cotton bud and apply it directly onto the affected area after cleansing. This product is lovely, doesn’t dry out my skin and works really well but I have to say, pure Tea Tree Oil works just as good and it’s often cheaper.
At night I use the Dermalogica Clear Start Overnight Treatment on dry and cleansed skin and on the next day the redness and the size of the blemishes are reduced, my skin definitely looks a bit better without being dry.

Several times a week, I like to use face masks, purifying and nourishing, both types are in my routine and you can see my current face mask choices here.

This is my evening skincare routine this summer, of course, I add new products once in a while, so I hope this post was helpful and perhaps in future, there would be an updated one.

Products That Deserve Your Attention #2

DSC_0143post DSC_0144post DSC_0145post
A couple of months ago, I did a post on beauty products that aren’t so popular in the blogging world or just somehow remain unnoticed. I use many items that aren’t talked about very often, I really like them and I’d like to share them with you, so here’s another portion.

Facial mists are a huge love of mine, I use them as a toner, underneath or on top of make-up, after a flight or when I’m having a cold and my skin feels really dehydrated. They are so moisturising and soothing that I don’t see myself skipping this step of my skincare routine. Maya Water Facial Mist with Organic White Tea* and the mini Maya Water Facial Mist with Organic Acai* are great for a quick boost of hydration and glow, they’re both organic, fragrance-free and paraben-free. They’re made with Norwegian thermal spa water and contain antioxidants. My skin feels refreshed and moisturised after using them and I love that they have different sizes, so that I can carry them around with me.

I was pretty surprised when I saw the following budget-friendly glycolic peel, it’s from Superdrug and it’s their Naturally Radiant Glycolic Overnight Peel. It’s a clear gel that feels slightly tacky when applied but nothing unpleasant or scary, I use it twice a week after cleansing my face and I wash it off the next morning. It makes my skin really smooth and radiant but you have to remember to always use an SPF on the following day. I have to say, it takes time for the results to be seen but I’m really happy with this purchase.

There’s a face mask that I really wanted to mention here because I’ve already used up one jar of it and I’m glad I managed to find another one. I’ve done a full review on the Mirins Copenhagen Facial Clay Mask here, they have several types, they also have many other products that are just as good, natural and handcrafted. The reason I love this face mask so much is that the product is dry and you have to mix it with water to get the consistency of a mask. It’s purifying and nourishing at the same time, slightly exfoliating but very gentle.

L’Occitane always release amazing limited edition lip balms but I never hear people talking about them. They are some of my absolute favourites and that reminds me I should sit down and write a blog post about my most loved lip balms soon. I’m always looking forward to the new special lip balm launches from the brand because they have unique scents, they contain Shea Butter and feel really hydrating.

Lip pencils are pretty trendy at the moment but it doesn’t seem so easy to find the right ones. I hope that more people are going to give the next two lipliners a go because I think they are amazing. Clinique Quickliner for Lips Intense* (review and swatches here) and GOSH Velvet Touch Waterproof Lipliner in the shade 002 Antique Rose (here) are pigmented, long-lasting and comfortable to wear and both have a great variety of shades. Some of my favourite lip pencils out there.

And speaking of lip products, I had to mention this really affordable range from p2 which sadly, isn’t available in many countries. The p2 Full Shine Lipstick range and especially this vintage pink shade 080 Tell me a Tale are simply gorgeous. It feels so creamy and luxurious on the lips that it’s hard to believe the lipstick costs just a couple of euros. Highly recommend checking these out if you’re in Germany, for example.

I find hand creams useful all year round, maybe because I spend a lot of time in Norway, and I decided to mention one more time some of my favourite ones. I keep the Crabtree & Evelyn‘s Gardeners Hand Therapy by the bathroom sink because it has a pump and it’s easy to dispense a bit right after washing and drying your hands. It has Macadamia Nut OilShea Butter andVitamin E, it’s really nourishing and smells amazing. That’s definitely an underrated product and also a brand, they have beautiful shops and ranges worth checking out.
I’ve already shared that L’Occitane create some of my favourite hand moisturisers because they have incredible scents combined with gorgeous formula. I can never go out of their boutiques without at least one of their hand creams, last time I picked up two minis and they are probably the cutest beauty items I own.

Alverde is a drugstore brand that has many body- and skincare products that deserve attention but today I wanted to mention their Macadamia Nut and Shea Butter Body Butter. Their body butters are non-greasy and great in general but this one has a lovely sweet and nutty scent without being too strong.

I hope you’ll find a new love among the ones mentioned here…

Have you tried any of these products?

Army of Minis #4

DSC_0095post DSC_0098post
When this post goes live, I’ll probably be in Amsterdam, waiting for my flight to London. I’m headed there for a short trip, so I really tried not to take much with me and make room in my suitcase for more beauty purchases. London is a great place to shop and find brands that aren’t available everywhere and I hope I can manage to get a thing or two during my short stay there.

I love taking travel size products when I’m away because they take less space in my beauty bag and that’s also a chance for me to try something new. And here they come…my trustworthy minis!

Lancome Gentle Softening Cleansing Fluid and Lancome Softening Hydrating Toner – I got these deluxe samples in a gift set a couple of weeks ago and I thought they could be a nice make-up remover and toner duo;
Clinique 3-Step: Cleanse, Exfoliate, Moisturise – I try to always have these sachets when I travel, they are super handy and they do an amazing job for my skin;
Maya Water Facial Mist with Organic Acai* – I love this mini, it gives me an instant boost of hydration, I can use it underneath or on top of my make-up and the size is perfect for travelling;
Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Clearing Gel – The whole Anti-Blemish Solutions series is amazing and I can never go anywhere without a sachet of this gel. When we travel, many of us struggle with a few blemishes appearing here and there and this gel helps me really quickly when I experience a breakout;
Filorga Time-Zero Multi-Correction Wrinkles Serum – I prefer not to carry around many glass bottles when I travel, so I thought this could be a nice solution to not skip the serum step;
Guerlain Abeille Royale Up-Lifting Eye Care – A luxurious eye cream that I haven’t tried yet but really hope it’s going to be hydrating and will provide a good base for my concealer;
Balea Beautiful Long 1-Minute Intensive Care – You can never go wrong with this type of treatments, it’s easy to use, doesn’t take much space in the beauty bag and makes the hair shiny and nourished;
Filorga Hand-Absolute Hand & Nail Cream – Because it’s nice to have a hand cream that doesn’t take much space;
Life Natural Body Butters with Pomegranate and Aloe Vera – These little tubes are not only good for travelling but the product inside is so moisturising and smells so lovely that I’m thinking of getting a full size of them;
Life Liniment – Helps to relax stiff muscles and it may seem funny but you never know when it can happen;
YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cills – I’m really happy to have this mini because this is one of the few mascaras with bristle brushes that I absolutely love;
YSL Waterproof Eye Pencil – Because you always need a waterproof black pencil.

I’m ready to spend a few days in London and these minis are going to help me save space for more beauty purchases!

Mid-Day Pick-me-ups

DSC_0417post DSC_0418postI believe many of us think that their skin feels and looks a bit ‘meh’ in the middle of the day. Especially, if you have combination skin like I do, you notice that the T-zone gets a bit more oily, foundation may go patchy on some areas and in the winter time we all lack radiance.

A few simple steps work really well on me and I hope this post will be helpful for some of you, as well.

Usually, in the middle of the day I need to blot because my combination skin doesn’t really care if I powder or not, if I use a mattifying foundation or not. I keep the Essence All About Matt! Oil Control Papers in my handbag and they really help me get rid of the shine. It’s really hard for me to find blotting sheets, so in case you have any recommendations, feel free to share.

Then, I’d go with a concealer just to brighten up the under eye area and to hide any imperfections around the face. At the moment, I’m carrying the Catrice Allround Coverstick in my bag because it’s really versatile. It’s creamy enough to be applied under the eyes but has decent coverage and lasts really well throughout the day. Also, it doesn’t take much space and you don’t have to dip your fingers in a pot concealer.

I need to powder to set the concealer and to just prevent the T-zone from shine after blotting, so I’m using the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder. It’s really finely milled, smells nice and doesn’t look cakey. It mattifies the skin but also gives it a bit of a glow and slight coverage.

The next step really helps me keep my skin hydrated in the colder months. I use a mist with Norwegian thermal spa water and I’ve actually already mentioned Maya Water Facial Mist with Organic Acai* because I really love it. But you have to be very careful in the winter and not go out straight away or spray when you’re out in the cold because if your skin is damp or wet, it will get damaged.
This mist is so fine and lovely, the mini bottle fits perfectly in my handbag, contains Vitamin A, C and E, Zinc, Iron and the fatty acids Omega 3, 6 and 9. I use it as a toner, underneath my make-up or on top of my make-up for a quick boost of hydration and glow. It doesn’t make me look greasy, it just gives me moisture and radiance and I’m in love with it.

Another product that I adore is lip balm and especially this L’Occitane x Pierre Hermé Paris Jasmin Immortelle Neroli Lip Gloss. It’s actually something between a balm and a gloss. It’s very nourishing thanks to the Shea Butter added but has a sheer glossy pink tint that brightens up the face while hydrating the lips. It also smells really beautiful and feminine.

Last but not least, would it be a mid-day pick-me-ups post without a nice snack? I love this Corny Peanuts & Milk Chocolate Bar, it’s not the healthiest or the best one but I like nuts and chocolate and if I need a bit of energy in the middle of the day, it does the job for me.
