Budget Beauty Heroes

I realised that sometimes it may seem like I don’t reach for drugstore makeup very often but that’s not true. However, the reasons why it looks like this are mainly two. First one being the fact that there aren’t many drugstore brands on the Norwegian beauty market and second, the prices of drugstore and high-end makeup in the country can be very similar. That’s why I tend to go for the high-end option most of the time but I love browsing through the drugstore aisles whenever I travel. You can find amazing jems like my favourite blush, for example, or a really good eyebrow pencil.

One of the best affordable makeup products has to be the L’Oréal Infallible 24H-Matte Foundation. It’s very difficult for me to find a base that I really like (not only at the drugstore but in general) and I’m happy this product is another budget option because I’ve been using Bourjois 123 CC Cream for years now and nothing else came close to it. They are totally different products when it comes to consistency and finish but they both earned my love. L’Oréal Infallible 24H-Matte Foundation has a great coverage and hides my redness really well, it does last very long on me although I still need to blot during the day which means it doesn’t stay totally matte. Actually, I like that it doesn’t sit too flat and heavy, it’s quite comfortable to wear, it’s easy to apply, I use a makeup sponge but on weekends I tend to mix this foundation with my moisturiser and apply it with fingers.

I’ve mentioned Max Factor Creme Puff Blush in the shade 10 Nude Mauve so many times that I even included it in my 2016 favourites. It’s the perfect blush for me, the whole range is brilliant but this shade in particular doubles up as a bronzer, gives a healthy glow thanks to the beautiful and subtle sheen (there’s no sparkle or glitter) and there is no way to overdo it even if you’re heavy-handed like me.

As you may see, I need a new pot of the Bourjois Healthy Balance Unifying Powder. I’ve been using this powder for over 3 years now and this is probably my 6th one of it, I simply love how finely-milled it is and how it keeps me shine-free for hours but gives my face radiance at the same time. Years ago it was really hard to find a good drugstore powder, there are now much more budget face powders that are pretty good but this one remains the best one for me along with Rimmel Stay Matte.

The beauty product that I almost never change is definitely my eyebrow pencil. As if I stopped looking for brow pencils after I found the Soap & Glory Archery Brow Pencil. It’s really precise and easy to work with, so you can form a defined brow or you can make it look natural and undone which, in my opinion, is very difficult to achieve with brow pencils.

There are a ton of amazing affordable lipsticks out there and it’s really hard for me to pick just one and say it’s the best drugstore choice. But there is one lipstick I wear so often that it somehow isn’t mentioned enough. Essence Longlasting Lipstick in the shade 05 Cool Nude (you can see a swatch in my Love for Nude Lipsticks post) may seem a bit boring in the bullet but once it’s applied on the lips it transforms into the most beautiful muted rosy shade that would suit many skin tones. It doesn’t last that long but it’s really comfortable to wear, I don’t even need a mirror to apply it, it’s not drying and the brand has such a wide range of lipstick shades and finishes that you would grab more than one.

These are some of my budget makeup stars and perhaps, it would be interesting to do a skincare version of this post. What do you think?

A Compact Foundation That I Actually Like

DSC_0081postp DSC_0083postp DSC_0089postp DSC_0092postp

I’ve tried quite a few compact foundations in my life but they just never seem to look good on my skin. They were always patchy or cakey, or both. So, when I got the chance to try the Lancôme Teint Miracle Compact Foundation, I was pretty sceptical.

I have to say, however, that like most of the Lancôme products, this one has a gorgeous packaging and I fell in love with it the second I opened it. It has a slim and luxurious look which, to be honest, is pretty tough to photograph. The casing also features magnetic closing which is very secure and completes the chic touch. I adore the beautiful rose imprint.

Now, the shade 03 Beige Diaphane* is pretty dark for me even for the summer months, so I’m currently using it to warm up my complexion before applying my everyday base (it’s not as weird as it may sound, it’s basically bronzing the face before applying a base). But what I’d like to talk about is the formula.

The compact comes with a dual sponge and it does a decent job but for me, personally, a brush is a better option. The product applies evenly with no patches and it almost feels as if the skin absorbs it to the moment when it all looks really natural and smooth.

The best part of it is that I don’t feel like wearing anything on my skin, the pigment is really finely milled and lightweight. It feels and looks like second skin! Plus, you get SPF 15.
The coverage is sheer to medium, definitely buildable without looking heavy. The foundation evens out the skin tone, hides some of the redness but I always use a bit of concealer, as well. It can also be used wet, depending on the desired coverage.
It has a satiny finish, it’s more on the matte side and I’m really impressed by the oil control properties of this product, although I still have to blot every few hours because of my combination skin. And mentioning this, I have to add that I didn’t get any breakouts while I was testing out the product.

It’s also a great product to carry around with yourself for touch-ups but I’d recommend putting it in a pouch, as the pretty packaging can get scratched in a handbag.

Have you tried Lancôme Teint Miracle Compact Foundation and what’s your experience with it?

Essence Sheer & Shine Lipsticks

DSC_0837post DSC_0849post DSC_0853post
Several weeks ago, Essence released an autumn range and I showed you what I picked out here. As a fan of their Longlasting Lipsticks (read more here), I decided to try the new Sheer & Shine Lipsticks.

I got two shades, 07 Sprakling Miracle which is a soft berry shade and 10 Glamour Queen, a light brown colour with a bit of mauve. They can look pretty scary in the bullet but as the name would suggest, they are very sheer and feel like tinted lip balms.

I love the colours, they look quite natural and just give life to the face but I happened to pick two of the shimmery shades and that’s probably what I dislike about these lipsticks. They are just way too glittery for my taste. The lasting power is the usual for such type of lip products, about 1-2 hours.

These lipsticks feel very comfortable on the lips, the texture is really soft and lightweight. I’m sure I’ll be wearing them a lot, as they are pretty easy to apply without a mirror, they’re affordable and you can just throw them in your bag but I think I’d be sticking to their Longlasting Lipsticks.

Do you have a favourite Essence lipstick?

Fall Vibes

DSC_0970postAutumn is time of the year that I normally love but this summer was such a wonderful one for me that I feel quite sad it’s gone. However, I’m completely embracing taking the knitwear out of the wardrobe, applying mauve and berry lipsticks and using gorgeous hydrating creams and lotions.

I’m still trying to keep a small part of my sweet summer around by having the Bourjois La Laque nail polish in 1 White Spirit on my nails. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants an opaque and beautiful white nail shade.
On my lips, I reach for Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick in 077 Asia more and more often. It’s creamy but it has decent lasting power, doesn’t dry out my lips and the vintage pink shade is simply gorgeous.
Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Honey Drops Body Cream is a favourite of my mum and I confess I’m currently borrowing it but it’s just because it’s great at locking moisture into your skin, it’s light yet rich, absorbs quickly, has a fresh and subtle green tea scent and she wouldn’t mind as this jar is 500 ml (perks of duty free shopping)!

Wearing smart shirts is something that I really like and in the autumn, I’m pairing them with chunky and long cardigans because it looks nice, feels cosy and keeps me warm. I think it looks even more chic if I’m having my hair up – a bun or a ponytail are both good choices.

I’m now making myself a cup of tea and I’m ready to welcome this autumn Sunday.

Drugstore Beauty Haul

DSC_0579post DSC_0582post DSC_0585postDSC_0586postI’m currently enjoying the summer days and I’m loving colourful shower gels and body lotions bottles, bright nail polish shades and fruity scents. I did some drugstore shopping in the past few days but I still feel tempted by what they offer at the moment.

I go through shower gels like crazy all the time and twice as fast in the summertime, so I picked up Balea Raspberry and Lemon Grass and Balea Watermelon Shower Creams. Also there was a Balea What You Need To Be Lucky Shower Gel and Body Lotion set that looked cute. I’ve already tried the Le Petit Marseillais Fig Milk & Chamomile Body Lotion and I’m in love, it comes with a pump which is my favourite when it comes to body lotions and it hydrates the skin very well, it also has a lovely scent.

As to face products, I couldn’t go without picking up some lip balms and one of them is from Himalaya. I’ve heard a lot about their Cocoa Butter Lip Balm that is free from petroleum, artificial colourants and preservatives and I’m pretty excited to try it. Another lip product is the Golden Rose Velvet Matte Lipstick in the shade 02 and the range is quite famous in some countries, so I couldn’t wait to pick a shade. There are two face masks and the first one is the Hot Chocolate Face Mask from Montagne Jeunesse which I haven’t tried yet. The other one is from a brand called Schaebens, I’ve heard a lot about their face masks but it will be a new experience for me with their Pore Refining Mask.
Then I saw many women buying the Himalaya Multi-Purpose Cream and as I love having such products, I added it to my shopping basket. I’ve accumulated too many eye creams but I couldn’t help myself and picked another one because winter will be coming and the gentle eye area needs to be moisturised. My choice was the Ziaja Natural Olive Eye Cream because I’ve tried a couple of products from the Polish brand that I loved, the packaging is simple and pretty and the quality is really good for a budget-friendly brand. The Facial Sponges by Cotoneve are just a random purchase but I love having them for taking off face masks and decided to get some more.
There are two backups here, one is the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder and the other one is the Alba Organic Lavender Water of which I already have a bottle but I use it for so many things that I decided to get one more.

Sachets are perfect for traveling and that’s why I got two 1-minute hair masks from Balea. Then I saw the Rimmel 60 Seconds Rita Ora Nail Polish range and grabbed the shades 558 Go Wild-er-ness and 860 Bestival Blue. And to remove the nail polish, I picked the L.A. Colours Nail Polish Remover Pads with Peach scent because it looks like they would be quite comfortable to take on a trip, hope they work, as well.
