July Favourites

July is usually never an exciting month for me when it comes to beauty discoveries. It all seems to be paused, everyone’s on holiday and my routines are quite minimal.

But this year, I had the chance to try many products while I was away in Italy and hopefully, I’ll be sharing more about them in the next few weeks. In this monthly favourites post I’m featuring a couple of these products because I fell in love with them straight away.

One of them is the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser. I was surprised by the texture of this cleanser, as I was expecting it to be thick and even a bit drying. However, it feels light, at first it looks a bit like a clay mask or some sort of paste but it almost transforms into an oil when in contact with water. It’s purifying but also hydrating and my face feels really smooth and soft afterwards. At the beginning, I was a bit concerned because the formula contains 5% Glycolic Acid and my skin isn’t the biggest fan of this acid but it also has Hyaluronic Acid, Chamomile Extract and Avocado Oil, so the combination of these really seems to work for me at the moment. I’ve been using this mini as a morning cleanse or a second cleanse in the evening. Now I’m thinking about purchasing the full size because it’s not drying at all, feels amazing on the skin and leaves it fresh, clean and nourished.

It is not a secret that I adore floral waters and rose water was the first and only skincare product that I used when I was younger, even before my teenage years. The Alteya Organics Organic Bulgarian White Rose Water made me very curious because I’d never tried white rose water before. Rosa Alba is one of the rearest oil-bearing roses. Compared to rose water from the traditional Rosa Damascena, this one has lighter and a bit more delicate aroma but still has amazing soothing and calming properties, it’s softening and moisturising and rose water will forever be one of my favourite skin treats. It’s very gentle on the skin, it’s suitable for all skin types and can be used as a toner after cleansing, to refresh the skin during the day or after sun exposure, I also love using it when I travel and feel a bit dehydrated. They have different sizes and types of bottles, this is a huge 500 ml one but the little 100 ml spray version is really handy to have in a travel bag.

Origins Flower Fusion Sheet Masks are now some of my favourite sheet masks. There are six types and the ones I keep repurchasing most of the time are the Raspberry (it feels refreshing in a hot summer day) and Lavender (very soothing and calming before bed) ones. Here’s a link to my review on the five I’ve tried, so far.

The only base product I’ve been using in the past weeks has been the Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45. I’ve mentioned in my Simple Summer Makeup blog post that it would be too dark for me in the rest of the year but the shade is great at the moment because I’m tanned. I like that it’s a lightweight BB cream but provides medium coverage, it’s quick and easy to apply and stays on all day.

I reach for This MAC x Steve J & Yoni P Touch Me Baby* eyeshadow duo whenever I don’t have much time or just want a wash of colour that can make me look more fresh and presentable. I love how small and compact the packaging is while still being stable and having magnetic closure. The eyeshadow on the right is the popular Soba that is a wonderful golden brown everyday shade but the frosted light pink Keep on Twinkling (on the left side) is really beautiful for a touch of sparkle. They may not seem compatible when you first look at them in the pan but you’d be surprised what a great pair they actually are.

Leave-in conditioners are my thing and when they’re in a spray form and it’s summer, I can use them all the time. Kérastase Aura Botanica Essence d’Éclat* is a beautiful hair mist that I use on damp hair after washing it or on dry hair to make it look more shiny and soft. It smells lovely and the formula is bi-phased, containing Jojoba, Avocado, Coconut and Argan Oils. I’ve done a blog post on the whole Aura Botanica range and in case you haven’t seen it, here’s a link to it.

There’s a bit of all, skincare, haircare and makeup, in my July beauty favourites, so maybe there will be something for you, as well.

Simple Everyday Makeup | Summer 2017

I’ve been lucky to be able to enjoy a beautiful and pretty hot summer this year. There have been days when the temperatures rised up to 40 degrees Celsius which has been a big challenge for all of us but for our skin, too.

In the summer, I tend to use less than 5 makeup products on my face, mainly because of my shiny T-zone but also, I like it to feel as light as possible.
There are a few new products I’ve incorporated into my daily makeup routine in the  past few weeks and I decided to share my experience with you.

This mini of the Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45 was part of a set I got from Sephora while I was in Rome. There is no shade name on the packaging, I believe the product comes in two shades and this one is great for me now that I’m tanned but would be too dark for the rest of the year. I love that it has SPF 45 and that I can really notice skincare benefits the more I wear this BB cream. At first, the texture looks quite thick but it spreads easily and evens out the skin tone. It has medium coverage and hides redness really well. I’d say it would be best for normal to dry skin, as I need to blot a lot more in the days when I’m wearing it but I really like this product. I don’t need a brush or a sponge to apply it, it’s quick and easy to use and it’s actually lasting me a long time although it’s only 15 ml.

The concealer I’ve been reaching for lately comes from Catrice and it’s their Liquid Camouflage Concealer. It has great coverage, it’s brightening, creamy and budget-friendly.

Another Catrice product I’ve been loving in the past few weeks is their Sun Glow Matt Bronzing Powder in the shade 030 Medium Bronze. The texture is buttery, smooth, velvety soft, the powder is finely-milled, looks beautiful on the skin and it’s everyday-appropriate. Depending on the skin tone, it can be even used as a light contour without looking too harsh. Most of the days, I’d skip other cheek products but sometimes a highlighter and a blusher just add the finishing touches to a certain look. I’m in love with the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlight in Opal. It’s another mini I got in a set with the matching powder highlight but I think this one looks better on my skin in the summer. Probably many of you think that Mood Exposure from Hourglass would be more appropriate in the autumn but I love this mauve shade so much that I could wear it all the time. This Ambient Lighting Blush gives radiance and a touch of colour to my face, makes me look more healthy and awake and blends really well with the bronzer.

I’ve just started using this Essence Mattifying Compact Powder, so I can’t say much about it at the moment but it feels lightweight and natural-looking.

Clarins Eyebrow Pencil is an old favourite of mine, this is probably my third one, it’s perfect for those days when I don’t want to spend hours doing my brows. If you like more precise pencils, this isn’t the one for you probably but I love it for quickly filling my brows and defining them a bit.

When I first saw the MAC Fruity Juicy Eyeshadow Palette in Fruit A La La*, I fell in love with the packaging. The print is gorgeous, the case is compact but sturdy at the same time. However, I wasn’t sure if I could get good use out of it, considering I’m into simple eye looks. And oh, was I wrong… This palette is so tiny, yet it has the perfect shades for neutral or more fun look. It is also great for creating this sultry sunset eye we see a lot in the summer. You can create so many looks with it and I can’t stop using it now.

I finally purchased the Dior Pump’N’Volume Mascara, it’s been on my wishlist since it first came out because I’m a Dior lover and because the tube is a bit unusual. The mascara is really volumising, it doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes and doesn’t smudge. I’ll be sharing more once I’ve used it for a bit longer.

Most of the days, I’d just exfoliate my lips with the Dior Addict Sugar Scrub and the rosy tint added to the balmy feeling would be enough for me on the lips. But Tom Ford lip products finally launched in more boutiques around Norway and I’ve been in love with the packaging, the formula and this shade called Indian Rose*. It’s sophisticated, elegant but still fresh and pretty for every day.

There are a few scents that form my summer fragrance wardrobe at the moment but the one I use mostly is Moschino Fresh EDT. As the name would suggest, it’s fresh, joyful, juicy. The floral notes are not so prominent, so it feels more citrusy and fruity, rather than floral. I really like this fragrance for the summer.

This is my current makeup menu and I’d be curious to know more about your summer makeup loves.

Current Everyday Makeup Menu | Spring 2017

When sunshine is so beautiful and birds are chirping, I just want to get ready as quick as possible in the morning and enjoy the spring outside.
The way I do my makeup has always been quite simple but the one I’m sharing with you today is even easier and takes only about 10 minutes. What I’m aiming for is a healthy look that makes me feel less tired and a bit more fresh.

There are a few new products I’ve been using lately and they fit perfectly into my current makeup routine. The base is one of them and it’s by Dior. If you want to see a full review on this Dior DIORSKIN Forever Perfect Cushion SPF 35, click here. I love the coverage of this foundation and the fact that it doesn’t actually look like I’m wearing a lot of makeup. Also, it’s very easy to apply and the compact is perfect for travelling.
My dark circles make me look tired and even ill, so I always need to brighten up the undereye area. This budget Correct Me! Concealer from Aura is a real gem, has great pigmentation and hides the darkness really well. It’s very creamy and easy to apply, the shade range is quite good and I also use it on blemishes around my face.

I’ve mentioned several times that I don’t wear eyeshadow on a daily basis, I’d usually smudge a bit of brown eyeliner around the lash line for more definition. However, in the past few weeks I’ve been reaching for my good old Collection Eyes Uncovered Palette in Nude. It’s just easy to create a simple yet sophisticated look, the palette is affordable and the shadows are really nice.
Then I’d add a few coats of MAC InstaCurl Lash Mascara* for a great separation and curl. For my brows, I keep it really simple by brushing them upwards with the Tom Ford Fiber Brow Gel*. This adds texture to the brows and makes them a bit fuller but still leaves them natural-looking. Heavy and really defined brows can make me look a bit angry, so I tend to keep them more natural and even undone, I think it’s quite youthful and cool.

Next up is the product that actually makes the difference and turns this whole look into a romantic and fresh one. I’m not really wearing pinks very often but Bobbi Brown Cheek Glow Palette in Bare Cream & Desert Rose* is such a beautiful illuminating duo. This particular shade is supposed to be suitable for medium skin tones but I think it looks good even on light skin like mine and I’m pretty sure it would look amazing on darker complexion, as well. This product is going to be such a staple for me not only during spring but also in the upcoming summer months, as it gives the most beautiful glow and flush of colour, it makes me look healthy in a natural way. It’s also versatile, I use the Bare Cream highlighter on top of my cheeks but I’d sometimes top up my eyeshadow with it for a luminous look, you can build up the intensity and really create a wet look with it. As for the Desert Rose blusher, it’s also a stunning lip colour that is incredibly flattering. Such an easy to use duo that enhances your natural features and can be used only with fingers or with a brush/beauty sponge.
I don’t tend to use cream products on my combination skin, often the texture can be too thick and heavy but this one is simply a dream item and I’m happy I have this particular shade.
If I don’t use the highlight shade from this palette, I reach for MUA Luxe Glow Beam Liquid Highlight Cushion, it gives a soft radiance that looks really pretty.
Soap & Glory‘s One Heck of a Blot has been the powder of choice for me lately because it doesn’t sit too heavy and matte but still keeps the shine at bay.

There are a few lip products I’ve been really into in the past month or so. The first one is my beloved Dior Addict Lip Glow in 006 Berry (review here), I always carry one of the shades in my bag, it’s easy to apply, it looks beautiful and feels nourishing. Another hydrating option comes from Burt’s Bees and their natural lipsticks (review here). I have two of the shades but I tend to reach for 530 Lily Lakemore often because it’s vibrant and makes me look healthy even when the colour fades during the day and I’m left with a lovely stain. On weekends I pretty much use only three makeup products – the Dior cushion foundation, MAC mascara and Bobbi Brown palette and then is the time when I use the blush shade from this palette on my lips. I wouldn’t say it’s hydrating but it doesn’t dry out my lips and looks simply beautiful.

This is my quick and easy makeup menu for the spring days that we can finally enjoy. What makeup look are you going for at the moment?

March Favourites

Spring is officially upon us, sun is shining, sky is blue… I’m currently enjoying the cute songs of the birds and the adorable presence of my cats while typing my March Favourites blog post. There’s nothing like breathing fresh air surrounded by mum’s blooming flowers in our garden. And before I turn this into an essay about how much I like being home, let me share with you what I’ve been loving in the past few weeks.

There are a few products from the Shiseido Ibuki range I’ve tried but their Gentle Cleanser must be my favourite. This is a mini of the cleanser but I have to say, it will last months because I need the tiniest amount of the product to cleanse my whole face. The brand has one more version of this cleanser, this is the one that is more appropriate for dry skin but my combination skin loves it. It’s rich but not heavy and leaves my skin clean and baby soft without stripping it. It’s difficult to explain and even to understand how a cleanser can make my skin purified but also moisturised and so soft that the makeup applies like a dream afterwards. I’d highly recommend picking up a sample and trying it out, for me it’s one of the best face washes I’ve tried. Shiseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser is really effective in removing impurities but still very gentle, the formula is without sulfates, phthalates and parabens. I wouldn’t say it’s too foamy, on me it creates a soft lather and I use it in the morning and/or as a second cleanse in the evening.

To refresh my face and remove the last traces of makeup, I usually go for classic toners or floral waters. This Clarins Water Comfort One-Step Cleanser with Peach Essential Water caught my attention because of its subtle peach scent. I’ve mentioned before that I love peach-scented products but that wasn’t the only reason why I picked up this product. It’s formulated with Moringa Seed Extract to neutralise the effects of pollution, Peach Essential Water to tone and soften, Honey to maintain skin’s moisture level. I don’t use this product as a cleanser but I know people with dry skin who don’t like washing their face in the morning because their skin feels too tight and they would reach for this Clarins Water Comfort One-Step Cleanser. To me it feels like a hydrating and refreshing toner that you can also use as a makeup remover, it doesn’t irritate my skin but it’s fragranced so, have that in mind if you’re with sensitive skin.

I’m in love with the way the combination between La Roche-Posay Respectissime Volume Mascara and MAC InstaCurl Lash Mascara* makes my lashes look. The first one gives me volume and length and the MAC one separates and curls the lashes. Like I’ve mentioned after I used up another mini of the La Roche-Posay Respectissime Volume Mascara, it gives a similar to the YSL Effet Faux Cills look and doesn’t irritate sensitive eyes. If you’re contact lense wearer like me, you’d love this mascara. Also, MAC InstaCurl Lash Mascara* has a unique brush that can be twisted, simply turn the top section of the cap to adjust the curve of the brush. Both of these mascaras last all day on me without smudging and I really like them separately but I absolutely love them together.

The two lip products I’ve been constantly using in the month of March have been Dior Addict Lip Glow in 006 Berry and Dior Addict Lip Sugar Scrub from the brand’s new spring Colour Gradation Collection (review here). Dior Addict Lip Sugar Scrub is a brilliant product for me because I can have smooth lips all the time without worrying about using messy lip scrubs. It’s just like applying a lip balm but the sugar grains remove the dead skin cells and then the balm moisturises the lips and gives them a rosy flush. It’s still a bit difficult to find this product, it seems to be sold out all the time but I believe it’s a permanent item.
However, Dior Addict Lip Glow in Berry is a limited edition product which is a shame because it’s a wonderful balm in a beautiful colour, probably the best one they’ve released, so far and I’m already wondering what would be next year’s shade they would go for.

These are my favourite products at the moment, I would love to know some of yours.

January Favourites

20170118_122617post 20170118_122951post

Seems like it’s time to take a look at the first beauty favourites for 2017…

I’m starting off with two skincare products that help my winter skin look brighter and fresher. Herbina is a Finnish brand and I love trying products from Scandinavian brands because I always expect them to know how to deal with dull skin and often the ingredients are a bit more natural. Luckily, I have a wonderful friend who always sends me different products from Finland to try. The Herbina Energy Boost Energising Peeling Cream contains Orange Flower Water, Sweet Almond Oil, lots of Vitamin C and Vitamin E. I like using it a couple of times a week in the morning because it feels refreshing, doesn’t strip my skin and leaves it radiant and really soft. The formula is plant-based, the granules in the cream are very gentle and biodegradable.
I talked about the Bio-Beauté by Nuxe Vitamin-Rich Detox Mask with Orange Water in my Skincare Update post here and I just want to say one more time that it is a good one to use in the winter when the skin is lackluster and dehydrated. It’s very easy to use and rinse, it feels refreshing and calming, the pot is travel-friendly, so I might be taking it along with me when I travel and need to bring back the radiance to my skin.

My love for Eucerin has been confessed so many times on the blog but I haven’t mentioned any of their products in a long time simply because they are now a permanent and just normal part of my routine. However, it looks like there is only one product from their DermoPURIFYER range that I haven’t tried before. I have no idea how I’ve missed their DermoPURIFYER Toner, considering how much I love the whole range. The toner is formulated with Lactic Acid which is without a doubt the best acid for my skin, it unclogs the pores without drying my face, it’s so gentle and yet, so effective. I’ve been using the toner for about three weeks and the difference was visible almost immediately.

One of the most affordable and at the same time, lovely serums I’ve ever tried has to be this Superdrug Clearly Youthful Resurfacing Night Serum. I’m still frustrated I have only one bottle of it because it’s another product with Lactic Acid that does wonders for me. My skin looks clearer and brighter but also, hydrated and this serum is one of the reasons for that.

Rodial Dragon’s Blood Eye Masks are seriously good. I often struggle with dry under eye area but in the winter it can get really bad. These patches have a cooling effect but also brightening, de-puff, plumping and hydrating properties, thanks to the Arnica Extract, Hyaluronic Acid and Dragon’s Blood. I was surprised by how smooth and soft the gentle skin under my eyes got after removing these. There is a lot of serum left in the pack after using the eye masks, so I tend to decant it into a small pot and use it before applying my regular eye cream. It lasts ages and it doesn’t ruin the rest of my skincare and makeup. I love the moisturiser from the same range, the eye masks are quite pricey, considering you get 8 sachets and one of mine (so far) came with only one patch inside instead of two but I got it with a pretty big discount and I really like the effect.

Another essential for me during the cold winter days has been the Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil. I’m not sure what took me so long to get it and fall in love with it, considering I adore the Lip Perfectors but here I am with my half-empty bottle of it. I was passing by my local beauty store, went inside to purchase something, the lady told me they had a good offer on the lip oils and I started wondering if I should take the Honey or the Red Berry one. At the end, I picked up the Raspberry shade because it just smelled so good. The oils are plant-based and simply gorgeous. They come with a big and soft applicator, the texture is like honey, the scents are divine, the moisturising properties are what surprised me the most. My lips feel soothed, nourished, smooth and soft after just one application, thanks to the organic Jojoba, Mirabelle Oil, Hazelnut Oil and Raspberry Oil (this one is only for the shade I got). It doesn’t really look red on my lips, it’s more of a sheer pink tint and I just can’t say enough good words about it.

This MAC x Mariah Carey Powder Blush in Sweet Sweet Fantasy*  may look appropriate for spring rather than winter days but it makes me look a bit more healthy and fresh with its peachy tones and that’s exactly what I need at the moment.

If you’re looking for a budget highlighter that looks natural and beautiful, try the MUA Luxe Glow Beam Liquid Highlight Cushion. It delivers a soft radiance that isn’t too out there for the office, for example and blends like a dream.

My favourite fragrance for this month has to be La Petite Robe Noire EDP Intense from Guerlain. You can read my full review on it here, it’s more on the sweet side but still remains elegant and chic.

These are the beauty products I’ve been loving and using the most lately and it’s hard to believe that February is just around the corner.
