July Favourites

July is usually never an exciting month for me when it comes to beauty discoveries. It all seems to be paused, everyone’s on holiday and my routines are quite minimal.

But this year, I had the chance to try many products while I was away in Italy and hopefully, I’ll be sharing more about them in the next few weeks. In this monthly favourites post I’m featuring a couple of these products because I fell in love with them straight away.

One of them is the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser. I was surprised by the texture of this cleanser, as I was expecting it to be thick and even a bit drying. However, it feels light, at first it looks a bit like a clay mask or some sort of paste but it almost transforms into an oil when in contact with water. It’s purifying but also hydrating and my face feels really smooth and soft afterwards. At the beginning, I was a bit concerned because the formula contains 5% Glycolic Acid and my skin isn’t the biggest fan of this acid but it also has Hyaluronic Acid, Chamomile Extract and Avocado Oil, so the combination of these really seems to work for me at the moment. I’ve been using this mini as a morning cleanse or a second cleanse in the evening. Now I’m thinking about purchasing the full size because it’s not drying at all, feels amazing on the skin and leaves it fresh, clean and nourished.

It is not a secret that I adore floral waters and rose water was the first and only skincare product that I used when I was younger, even before my teenage years. The Alteya Organics Organic Bulgarian White Rose Water made me very curious because I’d never tried white rose water before. Rosa Alba is one of the rearest oil-bearing roses. Compared to rose water from the traditional Rosa Damascena, this one has lighter and a bit more delicate aroma but still has amazing soothing and calming properties, it’s softening and moisturising and rose water will forever be one of my favourite skin treats. It’s very gentle on the skin, it’s suitable for all skin types and can be used as a toner after cleansing, to refresh the skin during the day or after sun exposure, I also love using it when I travel and feel a bit dehydrated. They have different sizes and types of bottles, this is a huge 500 ml one but the little 100 ml spray version is really handy to have in a travel bag.

Origins Flower Fusion Sheet Masks are now some of my favourite sheet masks. There are six types and the ones I keep repurchasing most of the time are the Raspberry (it feels refreshing in a hot summer day) and Lavender (very soothing and calming before bed) ones. Here’s a link to my review on the five I’ve tried, so far.

The only base product I’ve been using in the past weeks has been the Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45. I’ve mentioned in my Simple Summer Makeup blog post that it would be too dark for me in the rest of the year but the shade is great at the moment because I’m tanned. I like that it’s a lightweight BB cream but provides medium coverage, it’s quick and easy to apply and stays on all day.

I reach for This MAC x Steve J & Yoni P Touch Me Baby* eyeshadow duo whenever I don’t have much time or just want a wash of colour that can make me look more fresh and presentable. I love how small and compact the packaging is while still being stable and having magnetic closure. The eyeshadow on the right is the popular Soba that is a wonderful golden brown everyday shade but the frosted light pink Keep on Twinkling (on the left side) is really beautiful for a touch of sparkle. They may not seem compatible when you first look at them in the pan but you’d be surprised what a great pair they actually are.

Leave-in conditioners are my thing and when they’re in a spray form and it’s summer, I can use them all the time. Kérastase Aura Botanica Essence d’Éclat* is a beautiful hair mist that I use on damp hair after washing it or on dry hair to make it look more shiny and soft. It smells lovely and the formula is bi-phased, containing Jojoba, Avocado, Coconut and Argan Oils. I’ve done a blog post on the whole Aura Botanica range and in case you haven’t seen it, here’s a link to it.

There’s a bit of all, skincare, haircare and makeup, in my July beauty favourites, so maybe there will be something for you, as well.

Simple Everyday Makeup | Summer 2017

I’ve been lucky to be able to enjoy a beautiful and pretty hot summer this year. There have been days when the temperatures rised up to 40 degrees Celsius which has been a big challenge for all of us but for our skin, too.

In the summer, I tend to use less than 5 makeup products on my face, mainly because of my shiny T-zone but also, I like it to feel as light as possible.
There are a few new products I’ve incorporated into my daily makeup routine in the  past few weeks and I decided to share my experience with you.

This mini of the Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45 was part of a set I got from Sephora while I was in Rome. There is no shade name on the packaging, I believe the product comes in two shades and this one is great for me now that I’m tanned but would be too dark for the rest of the year. I love that it has SPF 45 and that I can really notice skincare benefits the more I wear this BB cream. At first, the texture looks quite thick but it spreads easily and evens out the skin tone. It has medium coverage and hides redness really well. I’d say it would be best for normal to dry skin, as I need to blot a lot more in the days when I’m wearing it but I really like this product. I don’t need a brush or a sponge to apply it, it’s quick and easy to use and it’s actually lasting me a long time although it’s only 15 ml.

The concealer I’ve been reaching for lately comes from Catrice and it’s their Liquid Camouflage Concealer. It has great coverage, it’s brightening, creamy and budget-friendly.

Another Catrice product I’ve been loving in the past few weeks is their Sun Glow Matt Bronzing Powder in the shade 030 Medium Bronze. The texture is buttery, smooth, velvety soft, the powder is finely-milled, looks beautiful on the skin and it’s everyday-appropriate. Depending on the skin tone, it can be even used as a light contour without looking too harsh. Most of the days, I’d skip other cheek products but sometimes a highlighter and a blusher just add the finishing touches to a certain look. I’m in love with the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlight in Opal. It’s another mini I got in a set with the matching powder highlight but I think this one looks better on my skin in the summer. Probably many of you think that Mood Exposure from Hourglass would be more appropriate in the autumn but I love this mauve shade so much that I could wear it all the time. This Ambient Lighting Blush gives radiance and a touch of colour to my face, makes me look more healthy and awake and blends really well with the bronzer.

I’ve just started using this Essence Mattifying Compact Powder, so I can’t say much about it at the moment but it feels lightweight and natural-looking.

Clarins Eyebrow Pencil is an old favourite of mine, this is probably my third one, it’s perfect for those days when I don’t want to spend hours doing my brows. If you like more precise pencils, this isn’t the one for you probably but I love it for quickly filling my brows and defining them a bit.

When I first saw the MAC Fruity Juicy Eyeshadow Palette in Fruit A La La*, I fell in love with the packaging. The print is gorgeous, the case is compact but sturdy at the same time. However, I wasn’t sure if I could get good use out of it, considering I’m into simple eye looks. And oh, was I wrong… This palette is so tiny, yet it has the perfect shades for neutral or more fun look. It is also great for creating this sultry sunset eye we see a lot in the summer. You can create so many looks with it and I can’t stop using it now.

I finally purchased the Dior Pump’N’Volume Mascara, it’s been on my wishlist since it first came out because I’m a Dior lover and because the tube is a bit unusual. The mascara is really volumising, it doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes and doesn’t smudge. I’ll be sharing more once I’ve used it for a bit longer.

Most of the days, I’d just exfoliate my lips with the Dior Addict Sugar Scrub and the rosy tint added to the balmy feeling would be enough for me on the lips. But Tom Ford lip products finally launched in more boutiques around Norway and I’ve been in love with the packaging, the formula and this shade called Indian Rose*. It’s sophisticated, elegant but still fresh and pretty for every day.

There are a few scents that form my summer fragrance wardrobe at the moment but the one I use mostly is Moschino Fresh EDT. As the name would suggest, it’s fresh, joyful, juicy. The floral notes are not so prominent, so it feels more citrusy and fruity, rather than floral. I really like this fragrance for the summer.

This is my current makeup menu and I’d be curious to know more about your summer makeup loves.

Current Everyday Makeup Menu | Spring 2017

When sunshine is so beautiful and birds are chirping, I just want to get ready as quick as possible in the morning and enjoy the spring outside.
The way I do my makeup has always been quite simple but the one I’m sharing with you today is even easier and takes only about 10 minutes. What I’m aiming for is a healthy look that makes me feel less tired and a bit more fresh.

There are a few new products I’ve been using lately and they fit perfectly into my current makeup routine. The base is one of them and it’s by Dior. If you want to see a full review on this Dior DIORSKIN Forever Perfect Cushion SPF 35, click here. I love the coverage of this foundation and the fact that it doesn’t actually look like I’m wearing a lot of makeup. Also, it’s very easy to apply and the compact is perfect for travelling.
My dark circles make me look tired and even ill, so I always need to brighten up the undereye area. This budget Correct Me! Concealer from Aura is a real gem, has great pigmentation and hides the darkness really well. It’s very creamy and easy to apply, the shade range is quite good and I also use it on blemishes around my face.

I’ve mentioned several times that I don’t wear eyeshadow on a daily basis, I’d usually smudge a bit of brown eyeliner around the lash line for more definition. However, in the past few weeks I’ve been reaching for my good old Collection Eyes Uncovered Palette in Nude. It’s just easy to create a simple yet sophisticated look, the palette is affordable and the shadows are really nice.
Then I’d add a few coats of MAC InstaCurl Lash Mascara* for a great separation and curl. For my brows, I keep it really simple by brushing them upwards with the Tom Ford Fiber Brow Gel*. This adds texture to the brows and makes them a bit fuller but still leaves them natural-looking. Heavy and really defined brows can make me look a bit angry, so I tend to keep them more natural and even undone, I think it’s quite youthful and cool.

Next up is the product that actually makes the difference and turns this whole look into a romantic and fresh one. I’m not really wearing pinks very often but Bobbi Brown Cheek Glow Palette in Bare Cream & Desert Rose* is such a beautiful illuminating duo. This particular shade is supposed to be suitable for medium skin tones but I think it looks good even on light skin like mine and I’m pretty sure it would look amazing on darker complexion, as well. This product is going to be such a staple for me not only during spring but also in the upcoming summer months, as it gives the most beautiful glow and flush of colour, it makes me look healthy in a natural way. It’s also versatile, I use the Bare Cream highlighter on top of my cheeks but I’d sometimes top up my eyeshadow with it for a luminous look, you can build up the intensity and really create a wet look with it. As for the Desert Rose blusher, it’s also a stunning lip colour that is incredibly flattering. Such an easy to use duo that enhances your natural features and can be used only with fingers or with a brush/beauty sponge.
I don’t tend to use cream products on my combination skin, often the texture can be too thick and heavy but this one is simply a dream item and I’m happy I have this particular shade.
If I don’t use the highlight shade from this palette, I reach for MUA Luxe Glow Beam Liquid Highlight Cushion, it gives a soft radiance that looks really pretty.
Soap & Glory‘s One Heck of a Blot has been the powder of choice for me lately because it doesn’t sit too heavy and matte but still keeps the shine at bay.

There are a few lip products I’ve been really into in the past month or so. The first one is my beloved Dior Addict Lip Glow in 006 Berry (review here), I always carry one of the shades in my bag, it’s easy to apply, it looks beautiful and feels nourishing. Another hydrating option comes from Burt’s Bees and their natural lipsticks (review here). I have two of the shades but I tend to reach for 530 Lily Lakemore often because it’s vibrant and makes me look healthy even when the colour fades during the day and I’m left with a lovely stain. On weekends I pretty much use only three makeup products – the Dior cushion foundation, MAC mascara and Bobbi Brown palette and then is the time when I use the blush shade from this palette on my lips. I wouldn’t say it’s hydrating but it doesn’t dry out my lips and looks simply beautiful.

This is my quick and easy makeup menu for the spring days that we can finally enjoy. What makeup look are you going for at the moment?

2015 Beauty Favourites

DSC_0490post
At the end of the year, I won’t talk about New Year’s resolutions or big ideas and changes, I will keep that for myself. But I’d like to wish you and your loved ones an amazing, healthy and happy 2016!

It is pretty difficult for me to share all my beauty favourites for the year in just one post, there’s always the chance to miss something that you really loved and you’re still loving. I have a mix of affordable and more high-end products that I split into a few categories but I’m still struggling to find the best way of doing it.

Skincare Products

Skincare got me into beauty and the first item I went really crazy about was lip balm. I simply love lip balms, I have way too many and I don’t think I will ever get tired of them. The L’Occitane x Pierre Hermé Paris Pamplemousse Rhubarbe Lip Balm is the newest addition to my lip balm collection but I’ve always loved the brand’s lip balms and the limited edition scent just makes it a bit more special. It feels very light on the lips and makes them really soft. Lightweight is also my second favourite lip balm. I saved just the tiny jar, I’m pretty sad that I’ve already used up the product because it’s not available in Norway and it’s a gorgeous, nourishing balm that melts in contact with your lips and has a delicate and sophisticated scent. It’s from A.S Apothecary and it’s their Lip Balm #7 Vanilla and Lavender*, I’m simply in love with this product.
Another A.S Apothecary skincare gem that I wanted to include in my favourites is their Cleansing Oil #5 Soothing & Restorative*. I’ve done a full review on it here but I just want to say that this is the best cleansing oil I’ve tried, it’s not heavy for my combination skin, it has great cleansing properties and an exquisite rose scent.
Pure Rose Water has been my favourite toner for years and I love this Rose Water Facial Mist* from Mirins Copenhagen, I just keep re-filling the pretty glass bottle.
I added two facial serums to my 2015 favourites because I use one in the morning and a different one at night. Looking at the bottle of this Eucerin DermoPURIFYER Active Concentrate makes me realise it’s time to get another one. I don’t know how many bottles of this milky serum I’ve gone through but it makes my skin soft and it’s great for combination skin because it keeps it blemish-free. It also has lactic acid which is a hydrating acid and I’ve included this product in a favourites post twice last year, a staple for me!
At night I’ve been mostly using the Mirins Copenhagen Facial Serum* which isn’t a traditional serum, it’s an oil and I loved taking it with me on trips, as it’s really moisturising but also calming and always keeps my skin in good condition.
Last but not least, my favourite face oil! In 2014, when I did my first annual beauty favourites, I included the Clarins Lotus Face Treatment Oil and I still love it. However, this year I discovered the Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil (review here). I have combination skin that is often dehydrated, too and I thought it was pretty difficult to nourish and make the dry patches go away but to keep the oil at bay where it’s needed at the same time. These oils are one of the best things that has happened to my skin, they give me the needed care without breaking me out and I’d really recommend checking them out, one bottle lasts really long time!

Make-up Products
I may go out without foundation on my face but concealer is an essential for me. I have pretty dark circles under my eyes, a bit of redness here and there and occasionally, a spot will appear thanks to my skin type. So, I’m always on the hunt for the best do-it-all concealer and I was pretty lucky in 2015. I have a drugstore and a high-end options for you and they both can be used all over the face. The Essence Camouflage Cream Concealer duo is my favourite travel bag concealer. It has a darker and a lighter shade that can be mixed for more coverage, it’s creamy but not heavy and doesn’t crease, it wears pretty well throughout the day. Another concealer that can be used under the eyes but also on imperfections around the face is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer. This is such a pigmented and creamy concealer, has great coverage and doesn’t set into fine lines, feels light on the skin and you really don’t need much product. I’ve done a full review on it here.
Moving on to brows, without any doubt my favourite eyebrow pencil has been Soap&Glory‘s Archery 2-in-1 Brow Filling Pencil and Brush in Hot Chocolate. The texture is really nice, the pencil is very skinny, so it gives you really good control and would’ve been nice if this product was available in Norway.
I’m quite picky with my mascaras but two stood out for me this year. Benefit Roller Lash Super-Curling & Lifting Mascara (review here) is one of my all-time favourite mascaras with a great brush and formula. This mascara lifts, curls, separates, lengthens and thickens the lashes and makes them look simply gorgeous. I can’t say enough good words about this product.
A bit newer release is the Clinique Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara in 01 Jumbo Jet*  with another amazing brush. I really wanted to include a drugstore mascara but I just realised I haven’t tried any drugstore mascaras in 2015! I never seemed to use more expensive ones before… So, you have to know that this mascara gets better with the time and makes the lashes fluttery and voluminous. I love how it separates the lashes and makes them super black.
My favourite blush has been the Essence Silky Touch Blush in 20 Babydoll. This is such an affordable but an incredibly pigmented blush, it’s not powdery at all and has a minimal shimmer, it looks beautiful on the skin.
The highlighting pen I’ve been loving is without a doubt the YSL Touche Éclat and this limited Kiss & Love edition is simply stunning! I have it in the shade 2 Luminous Ivory* and you can read more about it here.
I have two lip pencils in my 2015 favourites and they’re both from the drugstore. The shades look pretty similar, it’s just what I like but the formulas are an example of how a good lip liner should feel. GOSH Velvet Touch Waterproof Lipliner in the shade 002 Antique Rose and Essence Lipliner in 06 Satin Mauve are soft and creamy, they stay for hours on the lips and I’m wearing them almost every day in the autumn/winter.
When I reached the lipsticks part for this post, I think I had more than 10 favourite ones but at the end, I picked up 5 because this long post would have been even longer! Starting with the drugstore finds, it has been a year full of Essence, as it seems. Their Longlasting Lipstick in the shade 07 Natural Beauty is the perfect everyday lipstick colour. Swatches here.
The Maybelline ColourSensational lipstick in 342 Mauve Mania gives life to my face like nothing else and I even dedicated a full post to it here. And the Alverde‘s Bube Dame König in 20 Pi(n)k-Mauve is the best nude shade for me. You can read more about it here.
One of the most exciting beauty releases this year must be the Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer lipsticks. They are pigmented, they are hydrating but also long-wearing and they have amazing range of colours. My current favourite is 21 Rebel Pop* because it’s a gorgeous dark burgundy shade perfect for this time of the year. The posts dedicated to these lipsticks are here and here.
Do I need to add something when I say MAC Plumful (review here)? This could easily be in all of my annual beauty favourites.
I’m not a big lip gloss fan but there have been some really good finds this year. Like the Essence XXXL Nude Lipgloss in the shade 06 Soft Almond. Just adds a hint of colour, it’s comfortable to wear and it’s not sticky or too sweet.

Nail Products
This was another tough category because I’ve purchased so many nail polishes in 2015 and I fell in love with so many of them that including less than 10 here seemed unrealistic. However, I’ve picked up three formulas instead of shades. Bourjois La Laque and this particular shade 7 Lycheers had to make it to the final selection. It’s creamy, pigmented and glossy! Full review here.
Golden Rose have so many different finishes and colours in their nail ranges that it was hard to choose just one but I went for their minis. The WOW! Nail Colour series has smooth formula, not too thick, not too runny, opaque colour and pretty good staying power for the price.
DM’s own brand trend IT UP really impressed me with their Double Volume & Shine line. Beautiful shades, shiny finish and intense colour payoff, the brush is lovely, as well.
I had to mention two Essence nail products because they add the final touches to my manicure. The Gel Nail Polish Top Coat extends the life of my nail varnish and adds an incredible shine while the Nail Art Express Dry Drops (review here) are perfect if you’re impatient like me.

Body Products and Tools
Last but not least, the tiniest category. You’ve probably seen my post on the new Weleda Almond Sensitive Body Care where I shared my love for their Almond Sensitive Skin Body Lotion*. This lotion is very lightweight but incredibly nourishing and has the loveliest and gentle scent. I love the pump, I love how quickly it absorbs and the fact that is not sticky.
I think I’m going to share more about this YSL Black Opium EDP in a future post but I’m pretty sure you already have it or at least you’ve tested it, so you’ll know why I’m attracted by this mysterious and addicting fragrance.
I really wanted to feature the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler in my annual beauty favourites because it changed my eyelash game! You can see before and after photo here and what I’d like to say is please, don’t use cheap curlers, as they may be pretty dangerous, better invest in a good pair and you will see the difference!

That concludes my 2015 beauty favourites, thank you for reading my blog, hope to see you in 2016, as well! Have a fantastic new year!
