February Favourites

I haven’t posted in a while and it’s more likely to find me on Instagram rather than on the blog lately. I still love beauty and I still try different products but it’s mostly skincare which takes much longer to use and see if it works than a lipstick, for example. I haven’t been using that much makeup in the last few months because of my skin problems. I noticed that whenever I wear foundation, it shows up on my skin the next day, so my makeup has been quite minimal.

But let me share some of my most-loved beauty bits for the month of February.

The first product that I’d like to talk about is one that I really love but sadly isn’t available around me and it’s pretty expensive. Sunday Riley Saturn Sulfur Acne Treatment Mask is a medicated 10 % sulfur treatment that fights different forms of acne. It also has 4% niacinamide, Zinc PCA, Bentonite ClayTea Tree Oil and Manuka Oil. A month ago, I shared my first impressions on it here, in case you’d like to see it. Back then I used  the product only as a spot treatment, as I have a mini size and I’m a bit scared to find myself without it. However, I started using it twice a week as a  face mask (on my problem areas but not on the whole face) and I’ve been blemish-free since then! I apply a really thin layer and leave it on for 30 minutes. I still can’t believe how much my skin loves this treatment and I have no idea what I’m going to do when I use it up. I’ve been thinking about trying similar products like the Peter Thomas Roth mask or the Dr. Dennis Gross one, I’ve also ordered a mini of the De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment that I’ve been waiting for a month to arrive and it still hasn’t but the first one seems the biggest size, so I might go for that one, considering they’re in the same price range. So, Sunday Riley Saturn Sulfur Acne Treatment Mask has been pretty much the answer to my hopes, I reach for it in the mornings, I keep using Differin at night and seems like this combo is a winner for me. My skin hasn’t been too dry, I don’t think the mask dries it out, there’s no tight feeling after I wash it off but my blemishes heal a lot quicker and I do believe that it prevents new ones from appearing, as well.

After I started using Differin, I’ve been looking for moisturising and soothing lightweight skincare products. A few weeks ago, I came across the Vichy Minéral 89. Some call it a moisturiser, others say it’s a serum but the brand describes it as a booster which you use after your toner and before the serum. I’ve heard that people mix it with their face cream, as well but honestly, it isn’t how I prefer using it. The gel comes in a beautiful glass bottle and feels very luxurious. I need a pump of it, it applies easily, feels cooling and soothing on the skin and absorbs fast. I use it twice a day and sometimes I apply just Vichy Minéral 89 after toning and then proceed with my SPF without using another moisturiser. In the evenings, I like having a serum afterwards and then I’d add my rosehip oil. When my skin feels really dry, I’d apply Vichy Minéral 89, wait 10-15 minutes and then I’d use Differin (usually, I use Differin right after cleansing and toning, wait 30 minutes and continue with the rest of my skincare). Essentialy, Vichy Minéral 89 is the brand’s mineralising water rich in mineral elements with added Hyaluronic Acid. My skin is much softer and plumper after I started using this booster, I love the cooling feeling and how it doesn’t leave a sticky residue. Is it an extra step? Yes, it is but I feel that I really need this extra step on my winter sensitised skin. I also think that it would be a great summer moisturiser on its own but there’s a slight problem if you use an SPF or a face cream with silicones in it, the products just start rolling and looking like the skin is peeling. So, have that in mind.

Face mists have a permanent spot in my routine and although, I already talked about the Lumene Facial Mist in my winter beauty essentials post, I had to mention it one more time because it soothes my drier skin during the day and makes it look a bit brighter and more radiant. I’ve been using it all the time, it’s also refreshing and smells very nice without being too overpowering.

At night, I’ve been using the Decléor Hydra Floral Ultra-Moisturising & Plumping Mask which made me feel a bit unsure at the beginning just because it contains Neroli essential oil and usually, essential oils break me out. Luckily, this product doesn’t do that and it’s been an occasional night moisturiser in the past few weeks. It’s suggested to use it once or twice a week by applying a thin layer to a cleansed face, then to leave it to work for about 10 minutes and remove the excess product with a toner or a tissue. I like to leave it overnight for intense hydration but I’d gently remove the excess oil with paper and tapping motions after 5-10 minutes. I’m saying oil because this creamy mask turns into a beautiful oil when you start massaging it into the skin. It smells divine and on the next morning, my skin feels more plump and radiant, it’s soft and supple.

My love for L’Occitane hand creams shouldn’t be a secret by now and this cute mini of their Delightful Rose Shea Butter Hand Cream has been in my  handbag for a couple of weeks now. I love their minis because they’re comfortable to take in your bag or pocket, they last petty long and that’s why I’m always trying to have a few of their mini hand cream sets. The texture of the brand’s hand cream is light but really hydrating yet non-greasy. It absorbs quickly and all L’Occitane creams come in beautiful packaging and wonderful scents. This one has a true rose scent that isn’t too overpowering, it’s feminine, sophisticated and fresh at the same time.

There’s not even one makeup product that I’m including this month because I’ve been relying on my old favourites but there’s plenty of skincare that I’m about  to try in the next few weeks. I’m really excited, I can’t wait to keep finding the best products for me in order to have better and healthier skin again.

Three Beauty Essentials for Me This Winter

I hope you’re having a lovely start to 2018!
In my first post of the year, I’d like to share with you a few products I’ve been using lately. They have instantly made a difference for me and especially now that I’m struggling with my skin condition, it means a lot. Although this winter is quite mild, so far, all of us need something more on top of our regular routine in the colder months. So, here there are, three products that have had positive effects on me this winter.

My dear friend from Finland recently (as you can see by the small amount I’ve used up) got me the Lumene Glow Refresh Hydrating Mist which contains Vitamin C. My complexion gets quite dull in the winter and I always need something brightening. Since I started using Differin, I’m a bit more careful with the acids and I don’t use them at night anymore which is, in fact, the time when I prefer to use them. Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid have been great for restoring the radiance and moisture lately. Like I mentioned in my Winter Skincare Update, I’ve been also using the Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum and Vitamin C is becoming a must for me, especially in the winter.
The Lumene Facial Mist is part of the brand’s Valo range and valo means light in Finnish which is a really appropriate name for the entire line because the products in it contain Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Carotenoids (precursor of Vitamin A), omega fatty acids and antioxidants. They aim to boost skin’s natural radiance and the added Arctic spring water helps keeping the luminosity and hydration. The facial mist is 96% naturally derived, comes in a beautiful bottle and seems perfect for travelling. The mist is quite fine and I use it before my moisturiser and throughout the whole day no matter if I’m with or without makeup on. Once more, I’d like to remind you not to use face mists if you’re outside in the cold, as low temperatures would damage damp/wet skin even more. After using the face mist, my skin is instantly refreshed and replenished, it looks glowy but not greasy and I love the scent, as well. I actually need to try more products from the brand.

Not sure why I didn’t feature Lush Sleepy in my December favourites, considering how much I love this body moisturiser. Last time when I was in Milan, I went to a Lush store there and I wasn’t really looking for another body lotion but the girl who worked there, came to me and started applying Sleepy on my hands. The scent of it was so divine that I picked up a tub of it straight away. I can’t describe how it smells, it has Almond Oil, Lavender Water, Jojoba Oil, Cocoa Butter and Tonka Absolute and I’m pretty sure the latter makes the scent not so lavender-y but a bit sweet and simply divine. They also gave me samples of the Twilight Shower Gel which has the same fragrance and makes the whole bathroom smell amazing. I think even people who don’t usually tolerate lavender scents, would like this one. I use the lotion on my hands and body before going to bed, it doesn’t leave a greasy residue, it makes my skin really soft and I’m quite relaxed after I apply it. A real evening time gem.

After styling my hair and before going out somewhere, I always like applying a few drops of oil to bring back the shine to my locks. Unfortunately, I’m not always good at controlling the amount I use and especially if I’m in a rush, I may end up with sticky and a bit greasy-looking hair. That is very unpleasant and looks quite bad, as well. So, I repurchased the Lernberger & Stafsing Gloss Spray and I remembered how much I liked it a couple of years ago. It’s formulated with organic Argan Oil and gives the hair UV-protection and a beautiful shine. It also controls the frizz and the fine mist isn’t heavy or too oily, it’s very easy to use and it’s practically impossible to overdo it. I’m very happy with this product at the moment and I’m curious to know if you have a favourite that is similar, as I’m always looking for alternatives.

These are three of my winter essentials this year, they are not so popular but I think they’re lovely and they deserve a bit of attention. What are your winter saviours?

June Favourites

Waking up in Rome on a special date for me and my family, feeling incredibly tired and excited at the same time, makes me wonder if some days are indeed real.
But when it comes to beauty, I can’t wait for Sephora, KIKO and all the charming little shops they have around here. I’m looking forward to trying new products in July, especially skincare because summer is the time to find items that keep the shine away from my T-zone but without drying out my skin.

However, it’s still June and this is what I’ve been loving the most in the past few weeks.
Last month, I shared with you how much I love spritzing the La Roche-Posay thermal water before applying Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I’ve used up the mini of the water I had and went back to an old favourite, Avène Thermal Spring Water. I have several at home and one in my handbag, it’s a must-have in the summer for me. It’s very gentle and feels incredibly soothing, I love how cooling it is after sun exposure and how hydrated my skin feels afterwards. The mist is so fine and a true pleasure to use. The thermal water can be used on irritations, rashes, sunburn and it’s great to have a bottle of it. I don’t use it as a toner but just to freshen up and hydrate the skin throughout the day or before applying facial oils so that they spread evenly and work their magic even better.

The Eucerin DermoPURIFYER Active Concentrate is not a new product for me and I’ve featured it several times in favourites posts. I’ve gone through so many bottles of it and I will keep repurchasing. If there is one product that can keep my combination skin blemish-free in the summer, leaving it hydrated, soft and luminous, it must be this lightweight milky serum. It absorbs almost instantly and you don’t really feel it but you start seeing results a few days later. I don’t hear people talking about it but it’s worth having a look at it if you have similar skin type.

The last few weeks have been time for trying to find a good face or face and body sunscreen in a spray form. But they’re just too oily for my face. Bioderma MAX SPF 50+ aerosol spray is supposed to be completely transparent and without the need to be applied with hands and patted onto the skin. First of all, the spray has visible yellow tint and second, you can’t just spray it on the skin and leave it there, you need to spread it evenly using hands. I don’t really think these are negatives, just the promises aren’t true to what the product is.
The spray can be used on face and body, I’m not so brave to apply it on my face because the product is very oily but my mum likes to top up her SPF when she is in the garden and applies Bioderma MAX SPF 50+ on her face and arms and her skin looks amazing with it. I use it mostly on my arms because I don’t sunbathe anyway but need the protection when I’m at home where we have proper summer and the yellow tint I mentioned makes my skin look so glowy and kind of tanned. I’m adding this product to my favourites because it’s easy to use throughout the day when you have to reapply your sunscreen, it makes the skin look very pretty and I have to say, mum’s skin looks better and better each day after using it. I still don’t think I’d try it on my face but the results on her make me consider doing it.

One of the most popular products from the drugstore brand Catrice is their Camouflage Cream Concealer in a pot. I’ve been meaning to try their Liquid Camouflage for so long but whenever I’m near a Catrice counter, it’s sold out. I have very dark circles under my eyes and I’m always on the hunt for the best concealer that can hide them. The Liquid Camouflage has great coverage, in fact, much better than many of the highend concealers, it stays on for hours, it’s creamy and dries to a matte finish.
The downside is definitely the shade range, I often find myself mixing the shades. Also, the applicator picks up a lot of product and in my opinion, it’s better to apply thin layers of this concealer, as it can look heavy, cakey and even dry.
But I haven’t used another concealer since I got this one and I really like it, I’d recommend it to anyone, not only if you’re on a budget, it’s just a great concealer and the secret is to find the best way for yourself to apply it.

Recently, I dear friend of mine sent to me amazing goodies that I’ve been using ever since. Lumene is one of the most popular Finnish brands and their Nordic Chic range is meant to have all the staples you’d need to put in your makeup bag. I love the classic look of this Moisturising Lipstick and the shade 3 Spring Beauty is the perfect everyday colour but with a twist. I’m not sure what the finish of the rest of the lipsticks is but this one has a slight metallic sheen to it, it’s not too out there, it’s definitely visible but not too metallic and looks quite interesting but still wearable at the same time. I really like it, I don’t have anything like this in my collection and I’ve been using it almost every day since I got it. The formula contains Argan Oil, so the lipstick feels moisturising indeed and smells almost like a MAC lipstick.
Another great beauty item that came from my lovely friend is this Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Sunset Blvd. This satin golden bronze beauty is fantastic for the summer months and as you probably already know, the texture is a dream to work with. Although I don’t wear eyeshadows on a daily basis, now I feel like I need all the Colourpop eyeshadows.

The fragrance I always seem to be repurchasing is definitely Lancôme La Vie Est Belle. It reminds me of a special trip with my better half and because of this memory, I keep getting the EDT version. But a few weeks ago, I decided to pick up the EDP and the scent took me back to wonderful days. This one is slightly more intense and longwearing on me and although I still prefer the EDT version a bit more, I’m simply in love with this sweet, feminine, powdery scent. It’s beautiful and lovely to use in the summer.

These are my favourite beauty bits for the month of June and I can’t wait for skincare and makeup shopping in July!

Empties #12

20170304_120507postWe’re already in March and this is actually my first post with empty products for 2017. There are some huge favourites of mine that I’ve used up and now I’m really missing them.

Skincare and Makeup Products

KICKS Clearing Mud Mask – That’s a second tube of this mask after the first one was sent to me to try. It has Salycilic Acid in it, it’s purifying, washes off easily and the price is good, as well;
Kaufmanns Haut-und-Kinder-Creme  – Another tube of one of my favourite multipurpose moisturisers. It’s now a staple for me, it saves my lips and knuckles in the winter;
Superdrug Clearly Youthful Resurfacing Night Serum – Unfortunately, this comes in a really small size and I didn’t pick up another bottle of it from the UK. A fantastic budget serum with Lactic Acid  that makes my skin look brighter and clearer;
Balea Vital Intensive SerumBalea seem to know how to do good budget serums, too. They always have pumps and feel incredibly nourishing and soothing;
Clinique Superdefense Night Recovery Moisturiser – That’s my second jar of this night cream and it’s one of my favourite ones, I’ve spoken a lot about it but here’s the full review in case you want to know more;
REN Flash Defence Anti-Pollution Mist – I believe this is my second bottle of this mist, as well. I love facial mists and I adore this one. I have detailed information about it here, I love using it before makeup, on top of makeup, on days when I don’t wear makeup, it’s refreshing, hydrating and protecting;
Shiseido Ibuki Softening Concentrate – This mini was great for travelling, the purchase was inspired by mum who loves it and uses it as a serum or just as an additional step to add a bit more moisture and care to the skin;
Tromborg Multivitamin Facial Mask – This was just a sample but it was enough for me to know the mask is amazing. It feels light on the skin, it’s a gel and at first you think it doesn’t do much but when you wash it off, you’re left with a lovely glow, the pores look diminished and the complexion in general is fresher and healthier;
Sephora Pomegranate Sleeping Mask – I love these masks, they seem small but I can use them up to 6-7 times. I don’t like them for travelling, though because you can’t store them and keep them fresh. This mask makes my skin tone a bit more even and fresh-looking;
Sephora Ginseng Eye Mask – The eye masks are lovely, as well, refreshing and soothing;
Rodial Dragon’s Blood Eye Masks – These ones contain a lot of serum in the bags which I tend to pour into travel pots and use it under my regular eye cream. The patches feel cooling and hydrating and I love them, wish they were more affordable;
Purederm Collagen Eye Zone Mask – Eye masks enriched with Collagen, Vitamin E and Green Tea Extract that brighten the area under my eyes. The serum absorbs really quickly after removing the patches, it feels refreshing and I’ll be repurchasing these;
Purederm Collagen Make-up Remover Cleansing Towelettes – It’s quite interesting how I really dislike facial wet wipes and use them only when I travel, yet I have at least a pack of empty ones in every post like this one. The collagen ones must be my least favourite of all Purederm I’ve tried, they just seem to not remove makeup that well and feel a bit more harsh on the skin. I’d stick to the tea tree ones;
L’Occitane x Pierre Hermé Paris Pamplemousse Rhubarbe  Lip Balm – You may already know I have a soft spot for L’Occitane limited edition lip balms. This one was a memory of our trip to Munich around Christmas holidays and this is one more reason to love it;
Avène Cicalfate Repair Cream – I have a full review on this product here. It can be used on face and body and helped me against the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation I tend to get quite often;
Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up Remover – A travel mini of a cult classic, you can’t go wrong with this one;
L’Oréal Skin Perfection Perk-up Cream and Eye Care – That’s a great duo if you want a tinted moisturiser for your face and under the eyes because they even out the skin tone but also have skincare benefits. It looks lovely once applied on the skin and it was actually mum who got me into these;
Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – I have mixed feelings towards this mascara maybe because I had really high hopes considering how many people compare it to Benefit’s Roller Lash. I quite like how fluttery it makes my eyelashes look…when it’s near the time to throw it in the bin. The rest of the time, the formula is just too wet, it doesn’t give me the separation, volume and curl that Roller Lash provides and I’m not so sure if I love it;
La Roche-Posay Respectissime Volume Mascara – On the other hand, this is a brilliant mascara that I want to find a full size of. It gives a similar to the YSL Effet Faux Cills look and doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes;
Essence Mini Lipgloss – These are some of the loveliest affordable glosses and the mini was given to me by a dear friend, I love the colour and it was nice having it in my hand luggage during my travels;
Dior DIORSKIN Forever Perfect Skin-Perfecting Foundation SPF 35 – The best foundation for my skin type, I’m actually quite sad that I’ve used it up because I don’t seem to have a backup. You can read my full review on it here;
Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer – Not sure how many times I’ve spoken about it and how many tubes I’ve used up but you can find my thoughts on it here;
Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector SPF 20 – I use it on its own or as a primer and I like how it evens out the skin tone and makes everything look smoother and natural.

Body and Hair Products

Lumene Cloudberry Hand Cream – The same dear friend of mine gave it to me and I couldn’t thank her enough! This is such a hydrating hand cream and at the same time doesn’t feel greasy on the hands. The scent is subtle, so it can be used by men, too;
Neal’s Yard Remedies Bee Lovely Hand Cream – All the hand creams I use up are ones I love and this has a great orange scent combined with wonderful moisturising properties;
The Body Shop Frosted Plum Hand Cream – Reminds me of cosy winter days that were not so long ago, actually. The scent is not too overpowering and the cream is very nice itself but I wish it wasn’t limited edition;
Yves Rocher Pear & Cocoa Hand Cream – I really like the brand’s hand creams and when a Christmas scent is added, I’m in love. Now that I’m smelling it again, I wish I took more of it during the holidays;
Yves Rocher Pear & Cocoa Bath & Shower Gel – The corresponding body wash was amazing, as well. I love that scent wasn’t too overpowering or sweet but still remained different and special;
Yves Rocher Almond Orange Blossom Relaxing Shower Oil – I never knew the brand had shower oils! I really enjoyed this one, it feels gentle on the skin, it’s not really foamy, it has a slightly herbal scent which I personally like and I really want to try more;
L’Oréal Arginine Resist Double Elixir Express Conditioner – I always use leave-in conditioners, I just love them and these spray ones are quite easy to use. Plus, in the winter my hair tends to get a bit more flyaways and knots than usual and this product did a pretty good job at helping me with that;
L’Oréal Elseve Nutri-Gloss Shampoo – When it comes to shampoos, I go through so many so quickly that I don’t even look in details what’s in stores at the moment. That’s why I tend to go for the ones I know like this one here that makes my hair really shiny and clean;
La Roche-Posay Lipikar Fluide – It has a light texture that feels soothing and nourishing, the pump is really handy and I’d purchase it again;
L’Occitane Foot Cream – This mini came in the brand’s advent calendar and it helped me a lot during the freezing winter nights because I woke up to the softest feet on the next morning. I might need a full size of it;
L’Occitane Cherry Blossom Shimmering Lotion – The range is probably my favourite of all L’Occitane ones but this lotion is too shimmery for my taste, so it was nice trying it but I would stick to the cherry blossom body wash, hand cream and the fragrance;
This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray – I’m not sure if it really helps you sleep better but the scent is definitely relaxing and calming.

This is everything I’ve used up lately, now I’m off to make a list with what I need to repurchase.
