Army of Minis #6

Travel size products are a big love of mine, there’s no need for me to go on a trip to use them but when a holiday is on the horizon, I add as many as I can to my bag. Me and my boyfriend are going to Rome in a few days, I miss the city so much and we haven’t been on a holiday for a year. After all we’ve been through in the past 14 months, I’m keeping my fingers crossed to finally spend some relaxing time together.

This post is a bit Loccitane-heavy simply because I had their advent calendar and I’m taking away with me two shower gels: Thé Vert & Bigarade and Jasmin & Bergamote, a Cherry Blossom EDT and Immortelle Precious Mist which I’ve been wanting to try for half a year but somehow kept it away from my eyes.
There’s one more toner mini because I adore mists and toners and it’s from Kiehl’s. You can see I’m already using their Calendula Alcohol-Free Herbal-Extract Toner. It’s really gentle and soothing and the only reason I haven’t purchased the full size yet is because I’d like to try some of the other toners from the brand first.
The Avène Thermal Spring Water is mostly for my handbag because as much as I’d like to believe we’re going to take it easy this time, I know us and how busy our holidays always are, so we’ll need something to refresh the skin with. Also, my boyfriend is really pale and spraying the water feels calming on his face when it gets red despite applying and reapplying sunscreen.

Speaking of SPF, I’m taking this tiny La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50+ along with the full size of it and the Rituals Sun Protection Face Cream SPF 30. I’ve never tried the latter and I’m a bit unsure whether a holiday is the right time for me try a new SPF, considering almost all sunscreens break me out but I’ve heard many positive reviews on this one.

To take my makeup off, I’m going to use Cattier Paris Cleansing Micellar Solution which has amazing ingredients like rose water and lactic acid.
To cleanse, I’ll be using the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser from their Best of Bright Kit. It’s not on the photo because I just purchased the set and it’s supposed to arrive the moment I’m posting this.
I’m also bringing away with me La Roche-Posay Effaclar K (+) in case blemishes try to ruin the mood and let’s face it, summer, hot weather, combination skin…it’s inevitable.

When it comes to haircare minis, I’m going to rely on an old favourite like the Moroccanoil Treatment is and I’ll be trying a new shampoo for me that comes from Andalou Naturals. It’s vegan and sulphate-free with amazing ingredients listed and I can’t wait to see how it works.

I’ll be surely adding a full size fragrance to my travel bag but this mini of Armani Sì EDP is a must, it just screams Italy to me!

Travel minis are not only cute but also really handy and I can’t be the only one crazy about them! Hope you’re having a beautiful summer!

May Favourites

I feel like May has been surprising us with all the seasons changing in just a few hours. It’s been quite hot but the following day would feel like winter, then we’ve had rain pouring down and suddenly sunshine again. This is really challenging for our bodies and for our skin, as well.

Soon I’ll be doing a full review on Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate but I think I need at least another month to form a detailed opinion. However, I wanted to mention how much I like using it along with La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water Spray at night. My combination skin tends to get a bit dehydrated especially when it faces such big temperature differences like in the past few weeks. I had some dry patches appearing and although I moisturise my face and apply hydrating masks a couple of times a week, nothing seemed to help. Then I started using La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water Spray after cleansing my skin in the evening and while the face is still damp, I’d apply a few drops of the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. What this simple addition does is soothing and moisturising the skin while the oil locks in the moisture, spreads more evenly and makes my skin incredibly soft. It’s also much calmer, more glowy, redness is less and dry patches are gone.

I needed a new concealer a few weeks ago and I remembered how much I wanted to try some of the Bourjois ones but never got the chance to be near their counters. So, when I finally saw one, I picked up two of their concealers and straight away fell in love with their Radiance Reveal Concealer. Unfortunately, the shade range is quite limited but the product itself is amazing, I use it under my eyes, I suffer with really dark circles and I’d still use a corrector underneath but this concealer has a pretty good coverage. It’s also really brightening, it’s easy to apply because of the creamy texture, you don’t need a lot of product because it’s very pigmented and a little goes a long way. My biggest surprise was the lasting power, it stays on the whole day on me, it doesn’t crease and has a slight blurring effect. I like that it’s not drying because I always set my concealers with powder and if they’re drying, it gets pretty bad. I’m really happy I finally got to try this concealer, it’s a fantastic one.

There are two lipsticks I’ve been wearing non-stop in the past couple of months, I didn’t mention them in my April favourites post and I really wanted to do it now because they feel great on the lips, their creamy formula is hydrating and the shade range is beautiful. I’m talking about the natural lipsticks from Burt’s Bees in the shades 501 Blush Basin* and 530 Lily Lake(full review here). Best thing for those of you in Norway is that they’re finally available on the market and I can’t wait to see the rest of the colours once I go back there.

My fragrance of choice in the month of May has been Shiseido Ever Bloom EDT (review here). It’s powdery and floral which is totally not me but somehow this scent makes me love it. Probably because of its fresh and clean notes that turn the whole combination into something elegant yet youthful and really nice for spring.

These are my most-loved beauty items for the last few weeks. Now it’s time to get ready for summer!

Empties #13

It’s time for a new portion of empty products…
Skincare and Makeup Products

Rituals Mild Eye Makeup Remover – That is a gentle makeup remover that effectively takes off mascara and eye makeup without irritating my eyes and I’d repurchase it;
Simple Micellar Cleansing Water – One of my favourite micellar waters, it’s mild, it’s good at removing the major part of my makeup and is suitable for sensitive skin, as well;
Shiseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser – I already have a full size of this one because it’s a fantastic face wash that cleanses my skin but also leaves it hydrated;
Eucerin DermoPURIFYER Toner – That’s a brilliant toner that contains 2% Lactic Acid, I really need to get a new one because it’s great for combination skin. It’s oil-free but hydrating and exfolaiting at the same time;
Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray – I always carry a mini of this one when I travel because it’s refreshing and hydrating, especially in the summer;
Balea Aqua Hydrating Serum – My favourite budget moisturising serum, so lightweight yet delivers a good amount of hydration to the skin;
Shiseido Ibuki Refining Moisturiser – The whole Ibuki range is simply amazing, I wouldn’t say this is my favourite moisturiser but it’s lovely;
Rodial Dragon’s Blood Hyaluronic Moisturiser SPF 15 – Another really nice face cream that also has SPF but it’s so pricey that I don’t think I’d repurchase, considering there are so many amazing moisturisers out there;
Rodial Dragon’s Blood Sculpting Gel – This is a gel that really gives visible results but then again, it is too expensive and I had issues with the pump;
EOS Pomegranate Raspberry Lip Balm – I don’t find these balms to be the most moisturising ones but I enjoy using them;
L’Occitane x Pierre Hermé Paris Miel Mandarine Lip Balm – What an amazing scent, not too sweet or overpowering, simply divine, also, I love the brand’s lip balms;
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo (+) Unifiant – I used this product almost every day on its own or before foundation, it’s brilliant because you get the skincare treatment but also tinted cream with pretty good coverage, will definitely repurchase;
Essence Camouflage Cream Concealer – There’s just a little bit left but it’s already dry, I think it was a beautiful affordable concealer duo that I used under my eyes and around the face and I didn’t need another concealer when I was travelling, this one was enough. Sadly, I think, they no longer have it on the shelves;
Bourjois Healthy Balance Face Powder – I don’t remember how many of these I’ve used up, it’s one of my favourite powders that mattifies the skin but still leaves it looking radiant;
Dior Addict Milky Tint in 286 Milky Plum – Glosses aren’t my favourite lip products but using up one means I loved it. This gloss is actually quite unique, it’s has a milky finish that looks creamy and not too shiny and all the shades are really flattering. Plus, they feel hydrating and plumping. I have a full review on them here.

Body and Hair Products

Original Source Green Banana and Bamboo Milk Shower MilkOriginal Source have some wonderful body washes, their scents are always interesting and I really enjoyed using this shower milk;
L’Occitane Aromachologie Relaxing Shower Gel – I need a bigger size of this one, it’s so lovely, the scent is so relaxing and 100% natural. The body wash is made with essential oils and feels incredibly soothing;
Clarins Moisture Rich Body Lotion – For some reason Clarins body products and their scents always remind me of comfy hotel beds after a long day of walking around lesser known places, is that strange? Probably but what I mean is that this lotion gives me some kind of comfort and it’s soothing, it feels really hydrating and I sometimes used it as a hand cream, as well;
Moroccanoil Treatment – This cute mini is perfect for travelling, luckily, I have a couple more because I really like this oil, it’s lightweight, smells divine and makes my hair shiny;
Lilly Oil-Based Nail Polish Remover – The best nail polish remover, nourishing, takes off nail polish easily and the only negative is that you can’t find it in many countries.

Sachets

Kiehl’s Cucumber Herbal Alcohol-Free Toner – I’ve heard so many positive reviews on Kiehl’s toners that I feel like I want to try all of them but unfortunately, this one stings and burns my skin and makes it look red. It feels really soft after that, though but I don’t think it’s my type of toner. However, I’ll be trying out more;
Balea Aqua Sheet Mask and Balea Active Charcoal Sheet Mask – I already shared with you how much I love these sheet masks in my Budget Skincare Stars post;
Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar – It has a nice subtle scent and feels hydrating but I think it broke me out which is a shame because I really liked the texture and the feel of the cream;
Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturiser – Being a huge fan of Clinique moisturisers and the Pep-Start eye cream, I had high hopes for this one and even meant to get the full size straight away. Luckily, I got this sample first because to me, it feels like a silicone primer, doesn’t give me much hydration and I find it pretty hard to apply it evenly.

These are my recent beauty empties and I see that I really miss some of the products already.

February Favourites

20170220_100731post

There were a few spring days in February which makes me quite happy because it means winter will be over soon. It’s been definitely a long and pretty cold one.

I finally have my own domain and I’m planning on doing more changes in future but I always prefer to do something first and then talk about it, so please keep your fingers crossed for me!

On to the beauty favourites now. I always like to try different micellar waters because it’s my preferred product for taking off makeup, so that I can cleanse properly afterwards. I’ve been using the Simple Kind to Skin Micellar Cleansing Water for the past few months and I really like it. It removes makeup pretty well while it feels gentle on the skin, it’s not sticky or drying and it’s budget-friendly.

The lipstick I’ve been loving in the month of February has been Estée Lauder Pure Colour Envy Sculpting Lipstick in the shade 410 Dynamic. If you’re wondering why the packaging looks different, it’s because I got it in a Christmas set. The formula is moisturising, creamy and easy to work with, the colour is opaque and lasts for about 3-4 hours on me. It browny pink and reminds me very much of my favourite Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer in 23 Blush Pop (you can see a swatch here) but this one is a bit warmer. The shade is beautiful and sophisticated-looking, I can’t wait for the new ones to be released soon.

I’m in love with my night hand cream. I use it at night because it smells just like This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, it’s so relaxing and calming. I got the Balance Me Super Moisturising Hand Cream with a magazine in London and I regret not getting more. The formula is enriched with Shea Butter and Lanolin, it feels soothing and hydrating. I really like that it absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy film, bonus is that the scent makes me fall asleep easier.

This giant bottle of the limited edition Jeremyville for Kiehl’s Crème de Corps has a great design, a handy pump and 500 ml of one of the best body moisturisers. I also use this product as a hand lotion after washing my hands (which is like a hundred times a day) and applying it is my favourite ritual before going to bed because it feels really soft on my winter skin. The texture is rich but not greasy or heavy, it does take a couple of minutes to absorb but it’s totally worth it. This is the only moisturiser that could transform my elbows completely in the most freezing winter ever, they are now baby soft and I’m not even exaggerating. If you haven’t tried it, pick up a sample.

Here we’ve come to the last but not least and certainly the hardest product to talk about today. And it’s not because it’s a fragrance and I’m not so good at describing fragrances but because it is Tom Ford Black Orchid. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and it is either a hate or an endless love but if I have to use one word to describe it, it would be timeless. I don’t know if I should say more because no words would do justice to this masterpiece, so just go and give it a sniff, if you haven’t already. I fell in love with it by just opening the cap and that was it.

These are my most-loved beauty products during February. Now I’m ready for sunnier days…

Empties #2

Blogging about my garbage again!

Here are just a few items that I’ve used up because I threw many before I realized I could’ve included them in such post…oh, well…

As per usual the majority is hair and body products. I’ve kept only two body wash bottles and they are the Palmolive Milk and Honey and Dove Go Fresh Pomegranate and Lemon Verbena ones. I really liked the Palmolive body wash, it was pretty soft and nourishing. But although I like big bottles of body washes (this one was 500 ml), it wasn’t very convenient in the shower. As to the Dove one, I loved it! I loved the smell, I loved the texture, I think the Go Fresh series is really nice and I actually miss this body wash, I might have to repurchase it soon.

Similar to the body wash topic, I threw all my shampoo containers before writing this post except for one. Excuse me, I will try to be better with it in future. So, the shampoo here is the Herbal Essences Silk ‘n’ Shine (review here) which I’ve used up months ago! I’ve also used up at least 4 more shampoos since then but as mentioned, I can’t include them here.

The conditioner is Norwegian and it’s called Change. I picked it randomly and it wasn’t a bad one but I prefer using masks as conditioner, so I’m not planning on purchasing it again.

I’ve spoken about This Works Really Rich Firming Lotion and Vichy NutriExtra Body Cream  here and here. I really liked them but unfortunately, the first one is discontinued so I can’t repurchase it even if I wanted to and for the moment I don’t need the second one but both are nice body moisturisers.

The last body product is by Clarins and it’s their foot cream. I often forget to hydrate my feet, don’t we all? It’s bad of course, but when I remember to do this step, I loved using the Clarins foot cream.

I also have 3 face products to show you – a lip balm, a daily moisturiser and a clay cleanser.

The lip balm is by Love and Toast in Prickly Pear, it smells amazing but it’s not the best lip balm I’ve tried. I enjoyed using it but I guess I wouldn’t repurchase especially considering the amount of lip balms I have at the moment.

I’m going to miss the Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser (review here). It gives such a deep cleansing and leaves your skin purified and soft. It served me well.

Last but not least is my La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mat moisturiser for oily/combination skin. I think it’s a nice one and it’s better if you use it in the warmer months because it gives you light hydration and mattifies your skin. Love their Effaclar products!

That’s it for this time’s Empties! Will try to accumulate more containers and stop throwing them right after using up the products.
