Empties #18

It’s been a while since I’ve done a blog post with used up products. It’s a bit hard to keep the empty bottles when you’re away from home or you’re torn between two countries and ‘home’ is quite tough to define. But let us take a look at some recent empties.

Skincare and Makeup Products

Simple Micellar Cleansing Water – This has been my favourite micellar water in the past year, it’s really gentle yet effective. I use it just to take off my makeup in the evening and then continue with a cleanser but it’s still nice that it doesn’t leave a sticky residue and doesn’t sting;
First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser – A lovely, mild and gentle cleanser that I need to get another tube of. It really helped me calm my skin after my issues appeared and I started using Differin. I love trying different products but I have to say, I miss this cleanser in my routine;
L’Occitane Peony Perfecting Mist – I’ve gone through a few of these which means I love it and I love it because it somehow makes my skin texture better, it feels refreshing and hydrating and I love spritzing it throughout the day;
Alverde Aqua Eye Gel – My budget pick for the area around the eyes, it just feels incredibly lightweight while providing moisture. Probably my third tube and won’t be the last;
Decléor Aurabsolu Dark Circle Corrector – This is magic! It doesn’t erase my dark circles, of course, but it gives such radiance and brightness that I look ten times fresher. I think I might need the full size of it;
Herborist Silky Eye Gel – At first I didn’t like this because it can feel a bit sticky. It’s still not my favourite eye product but I like how cooling it feels;
Clinique Fresh Pressed System – I have a review on the 7-day system here, in case you’d like to read it. I was quite impressed by it mainly because the hyperpigmentation I get, faded much quicker than usual while I was using the system. Too bad it’s quite expensive if you want to get it for a whole month;
Lancôme Énergie de Vie The Liquid Care – And another bottle of this refreshing liquid moisturiser is gone. It makes my skin softer and smoother, it feels soothing and is enriched with powerful antioxidants;
Dr. Jart + Water Drop Hydrating Moisturiser – Water creams have been part of my routines since last summer and I can’t wait to try all the different brands. This one was my first experience with water creams and I have a few more as a backup because it’s travel-friendly and I love how light it feels on the skin;
Dr. Hauschka Clarifying Day Oil – My skin can get pretty dry in the winter because of the prescription retinoid and I liked to use this one in the morning  by mixing a few drops of it with my moisturiser. It doesn’t feel greasy, it’s very nourishing and gives a beautiful glow to the skin;
La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Ultra-Light SPF 50+ – I struggle a lot with suncreams. It’s the one product that I need to apply every morning and the hardest to find. A suncream clogged my pores so badly that I still fear applying new ones on my skin. This has been the best one I’ve found, so far, just because it doesn’t irritate my skin but it’s still not the formula I wish it had. It’s lightweight indeed but it’s still difficult to work with over water-based products or under makeup. I’d probably purchase the one with SPF 30 next;
Himalaya Herbals Cocoa Butter Lip Balm – That’s a beautiful affordable lip balm. It feels a bit thick at first but it’s not uncomfortable and I love how nourished my lips are afterwards;
Dior Diorshow Maximizer 3D Lash Primer – Although I don’t think I need a full size of this one, I have to say, it does work and makes a difference to my lashes;
L’oréal Volume Million Lashes So Couture – I loved this mascara when it first came out, it has exactly the type of brush that I like but when I got it a couple of months ago again, it just didn’t do anything for me. It can’t grab my lashes, at all and it just leaves them looking as if I haven’t used mascara;
Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara – This, on the other hand, is one of my favourite mascaras in the past 6 months! This is my second tube, the first one was sent to me for a review which you can find here and I already have a third one;

Body and Hair Products

Bilou Cherry Blossom Shower Foam – This looks so pretty and was fun to use although it didn’t feel as luxurious as other shower foams and sadly, it didn’t smell like cherry blossom, at all. I have another scent of it which feels the same, so I don’t think I’d be getting more from them;
Original Source Lime Shower Gel – These always smell very nice and I get them because of the scents, basically;
L’Occitane Cherry Blossom Bath & Shower Gel – One of my favourite scents! I love how it smells, I love how it feels like something between a gel and an oil and I always have a couple of minis of the brand’s shower gels. I simply love travelling with them and I somehow connect the way they smell to holidays;
Philosophy Cinnamon Buns Shower Gel – That was an incredibly big bottle even for me (I go through shower gels really quickly) and at first, I loved the scent because I started using it around Christmas time. Unfortunately, this shower gels dried my skin out quite a bit, so I had to alternate it with other body washes and at some point, I just wanted to finish it up and didn’t even enjoy the scent anymore;
Soap & Glory Flake Away Body Polish – This one has a lovely smell but in terms of exfoliating, it’s not the best as it dissolves a bit too quickly and doesn’t do much;
Garnier Ultimate Blends 1 Minute Hair Treatment – It’s an easy pick for me when I need something nourishing for my ends because it’s affordable and it’s not so hard to find;
L’Occitane Arlésienne Velvet Hand Cream – I know I’m talking about L’Occitane hand creams all the time but it’s difficult not to love them. Their scents are so unique, feminine and elegant, the texture is so soft and non-greasy that I always have to have a few of them. This is actually my second tube of this scent but it has a different packaging now;
Essence Shea Butter Hand Cream – I have a mini trio of these and I really like it, they are not the most nourishing ones but they absorb really quickly and they’re perfect daytime hand creams;
Burt’s Bees Ultimate Care Hand Cream – This one is very rich and thick but it doesn’t feel heavy. I prefer to use it at night, it’s gorgeous and leaves my hands nourished and soothed;
Rituals Honey Touch Body Cream – That’s another repurchase, the brand has beautiful body products and I rarely find something that I don’t like from them;
Giorgio Armani Sì Perfumed Body Lotion – Although this wasn’t moisturising, at all, I’m in love with the fragrance and I really enjoyed using it;
Soap & Glory Heel Genius Foot Cream – Light scent, lightweight texture, feels refreshing and hydrating…loved it!

Masks and Samples

Ivy Hot Eyes Steam Eye Mask – I have two more of these and I’m not sure how I feel about them. It’s supposed to be a home spa treatment, to make you feel more relaxed before bed and to soothe tired eyes. The mask itself is quite comfortable and soft but it felt a bit too hot for me. I just didn’t feel well with so much heat over my eyes but like I said, there are two more left in the pack, so I might it them again;
Starskin Nourishing Double-Layer Hand Mask Gloves – A real pleasure to use! I’m definitely going to try more from the brand. I used this mask while I was reading in bed before sleep, my hands were very dry and the mask felt so soothing and cooling. On the next day my hands were much softer;
Sephora Almond Foot Mask – Foot masks, on the other hand, are never comfortable. At least, that’s what I think. But I liked the effect after using this Sephora foot mask;
Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation – I’ve heard so many positive reviews on this foundation that I almost purchased it without trying. Luckily, Sephora added a sample to one of my orders and I was really excited to see how it looks. The shade was a bit too light even for my winter complexion but that’s not so important. Yes, this foundation is high coverage and it really doesn’t feel heavy on the skin but I didn’t like how it looked. I have combination skin with more oily T-zone and the product still sat dry and very unnatural-looking. I tried using it with a brush or a sponge, I tried applying less product (the sample was quite generous, so I could try it quite a few times) but it just didn’t work. Unfortunately, it didn’t look well on me.

Hope you’re enjoying your Sunday!

Not For Me #5

I haven’t done a blog post with disappointing products since last summer when my skin problems started. I’m happy to see an improvement in my skin condition although it still needs recovery.

I’ve been keeping my skincare routine quite minimal as you might have seen in my previous posts or on Instagram photos. But I’m always curious about different skincare products and I’d gradually incorporate them into my regimen to see if they can help me or not.

Sadly, even if a product is supposed to be good on a certain skin type or against a specific problem, it might not work well on all of us.

I had such high hopes for the TONYMOLY Egg Pore Blackhead Steam Balm and I’ve been using it twice a week for the past 2-3 months but it just doesn’t do anything for me. Essentially, this is a self-heating treatment that should remove dirt and impurities from the pores. It contains charcoal powder, sea salt, vitamin E and egg shell powder. It’s supposed to act like a steam to open up pores and refine the complexion. I love the way it looks and the whole concept behind the product, it feels like a rich balm, smells nice and contains biodegradable natural exfoliators. It applies smoothly and it should heat up but I don’t feel any warmth even when I’m massaging it on my face for 3-5 minutes. When I wash it off, the only difference I feel is that my T-zone is smooth but nothing in the appearance is changed. I thought I needed to use it for a month or so to see results but almost 3 months later, there is absolutely no difference. I’m going to use it up but I won’t be repurchasing. However, I’m curious to try similar products from other Korean brands.

Herborist is a Chinese brand that combines the idea of herbal extracts and modern biotechnical achievements. I haven’t heard many people in Europe talk about it but I love minis and I love sets, so I got the brand’s discovery kit from the Italian Sephora and two of the products inside were the T’ai Chi Masks. There’s a black one that you’re supposed to use first to purify the skin and a white one, that would hydrate it after that. Usually, they come together in a big yin-yang tub and the idea seemed quite interesting to me, considering how I love charcoal masks but I always need something more hydrating after washing it off. I follow the instructions because you’re supposed to massage the masks before letting them do the rest of their work although the black one gets dry pretty quickly and it’s hard to complete the massage.
After washing off the black masks, I always see that it leaves black particles in my pores and I almost need to scrub them off, it’s quite hard to take them away and my skin feels pretty tight afterwards. I don’t see any difference in my complexion, it’s not clearer or more radiant.
After using the white mask, my skin feels softer but in no way hydrated or soothed. It also contains mineral oil which is really surprising for me, considering the high price tag. I hope the day and eye creams from the kit are going to be better because sadly, the masks were disappointing.

In the past half a year, I’ve been trying to avoid skincare that contains essential oils. They can irritate my skin, they often break me out but seeing how KORA Organics Purifying Moisturiser promised to be lightweight and to prevent breakouts, I decided to give it a go. I actually have the set for oily/combination skin but I still haven’t tried the other two products and now I’m a bit unsure if I should.
First of all, this moisturiser is anything but lightweight. It looks runny but feels quite heavy and it just doesn’t sink into the skin. It sits on top of it like a wash-off face mask and I can hardly spread it over the face. I’m not sure if there might be a possibility that I got a bad one but I tried using it with different products underneath or only on its own and it just never worked out. Ten minutes after trying to apply it, my face gets pretty oily and there is no chance to use this lotion if I want to wear makeup afterwards. That’s why I was using it only at night until I realised that it broke me out. I got spots even around my chest area and I never get spots there, it’s been so frustrating. Unfortunately, apart from the divine scent I can’t say anything positive about this moisturiser.

These are the latest products that disappointed me or even made my problems worse. Have you tried any of them?

Sephora Haul | November 2017

I’ve just got back from Milan and it was lovely although it didn’t stop raining even for a day. It was good to visit again the city that made me fall in love with Italy for the first time many years ago.

Of course, there was no Sephora in Milan back then, so it was only natural for me to visit a few of their stores this time. Part of the products I’m showing you today are from my trip to Milan but there are also a few that were ordered by my boyfriend from the US Sephora. I’ve been curious about some items that are not so widely available in Europe, so it was a great surprise when he showed me the box that came in the mail. I also decided to throw in a couple of purchases from Germany because they happened to be available only there at that moment.

I picked up a few skincare sets, they’re great for travelling but I actually wanted to get to know the brands. The only thing I’ve tried from Herborist was an overnight face mask that I really liked and I even used it as a day cream for a deeper hydration. This Discovery Kit contains T’ai Chi Masks (a black and a white mask that you’re supposed to use one after another), SILKY All-day Moisturising Facial Fluid and SILKY All-day Moisturising Eye Gel. I’m incredibly excited to try the Laneige Hydrating Trial Kit because I’ve heard only positive reviews on the brand’s products. The set contains a Moisturising Foam Cleanser, Essential Power Skin Toner, Water Bank Essence, Water Bank Moisture Cream and probably their most popular product, the Water Sleeping Mask.
I’ve never tried anything from KORA Organics and I’m a bit unsure how I feel about the essential oils that some of their products contain but this little Daily Ritual set for oily/combination skin sounds interesting, so I’ll report back once I’ve tried the items. Inside the box you find a Foaming Cleanser (not sure why so many cleansers are supposed to be “foaming”), Energising Citrus Mist and Purifying Moisturiser.
Another brand that I’m really curious about is Drunk Elephant. I’m hearing so many people raving about their products that seeing this cute The Littles set made me scream a bit. It’s quite a generous gift from my boyfriend because he knows about the struggles I’ve been having after the bad reaction to a sunscreen and apparently, these products work well on many people. Hopefully, they’re going to help me, as well. The set contains Pekee Bar and Juju Bar which are their solid cleansers, C-Firma Day Serum, T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum, B-Hydration Gel, Lala Retro Whipped Cream, Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil and Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense SPF 30.
The Dr. Jart+ K-Beauty A BB C’s sets are actually a repurchase because I really liked the trio the first time I tried it, it’s great for travelling, some of my friends wanted to try it, as well and sadly, it’s not so easy to get hold of it at the moment.

Blackhead Steam Balm from TONYMOLY has been on my wishlist for such a long time but no matter where I tried to get it from, it was always sold out and the only thing that remained on the shelves was the tester. I hope it’s as good as they say.

I decided not to go crazy with the sheet masks, so I purchased just a few. I haven’t tried Sephora‘s lip and foot masks yet, so I picked up their Rose Lip Mask and Almond and Lavender Foot Masks. The TONYMOLY I’m Real Tomato Mask Sheet Radiance was supposed to be tested during our trip but I ended up forgetting about it. When I was picking up the masks, I turned around and saw this Dr. Jart+ Bright Lover Rubber Mask in my shopping basket. My boyfriend put it there simply because he has a lot of fun when he sees me with strange masks on.
Clay masks in pots dry out so quickly and that was the only reason why I didn’t want to get the Sephora Mud Mask Purifying & Mattifying one when I first heard about it. Luckily, now they have miniature size of it (or maybe they always had it but I never saw it) and I can’t wait to try it.

I’m a huge lip balm lover, I also adore peach-scented products, so when I saw the Lanolips Peach 101 Ointment Multi-Balm, I had to have it. Plus, multi-purpose moisturisers are great to have in your handbag, especially in the winter.

Hype isn’t something I often buy into but all the different opinions on the Sol de Janeiro‘s Brazilian Bum Bum Cream made me want to try this body moisturiser so bad. But now I’m scared to open the mini jar and to actually use the product. Yes, I realise how ridiculous it sounds.

The only tool I picked up was the pink Beautyblender just because I  need a new one.

As you can see my haul mostly consists of skincare items and I guess that’s because of my skin issues. And although the makeup products are not many this time, they’re absolutely amazing. This Marc Jacobs The Nude(ist) set is so beautiful! I love everything about it and I can’t wait to add it to my handbag.
Some of you may know how much I wanted the NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer but I never had luck with finding it. They didn’t have all the shades in Milan and most of them looked either too pale or too pink/orange for me. So, I picked up the shade Creme Brulee and I hope I didn’t make the wrong decision.
Last but not least, something that I wasn’t that curious about but now that I have it, I really like it. It’s the Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo in Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby. I don’t usually go for peachy shades but these ones are quite sheer, soft and blendable.

These are all my recent Sephora purchases and I’m looking forward to finding out more about each of the products. I have big hopes for the skincare sets and I’d be happy if you share your experience in case you’ve already tried some of them.
