Fall Glow

Autumn is officially here! There’s something magical about this season and although we connect it to berry tones when it comes to beauty, this year I’d like to focus more on the glow. The glow that just makes you look healthy and radiant and that still reminds you a bit of those summer days.

The two products I’m talking about today might be seen as summer staples but they look so subtle and beautiful that I don’t see a reason not to include them in my autumn routine, as well.

I’ve been using this Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlight in Opal for a couple of months and I can’t seem to be able to put it away. First of all, it’s a mini which makes it perfect for any handbag or travel makeup bag. This liquid version is great if you like a more subtle look or if you prefer to mix it with your moisturiser or foundation, for example because it has a thin, almost water-like consistency. I like that it applies easily even if the skin is a bit more dry or dehydrated and it doesn’t make the dry patches more visible. Opal is a soft peachy gold that looks pearlescent but when it’s in this liquid form the colour is less visible and it simply leaves a beautiful dewy sheen with no glitter. I usually apply a little bit on the high points of my face, as I have shiny T-zone. I don’t really use dewy bases, so I don’t mix it with my foundation but the combination looks beautiful on normal and dry skin. I’d like to add that for me, this is the most flattering shade from the Becca range on all skin tones, it’s absolutely beautiful.

The Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Sunset Blvd was featured in my June Favourites post because it’s a really pretty golden bronze summer shade but I have to say, it’s lovely to use all year round (you can see it swatched on the last photo or in the favourites post). And that is because you can apply it lightly for a sheer wash of colour with a beautiful sheen or you can make it look more opaque and luminous.
I usually use it on its own all over the lids or with a bit of brown eyeliner or eyeshadow smudged in. I just love a simple and elegant look. The formula of the shadow is very soft and creamy, it’s so easy to work with, blends like a dream and doesn’t crease.
Some people said it’s been discontinued but I noticed that it’s still available on the brand’s website as part of sets.

My makeup routine has become even more simple than before because of the allergy/rash I got. At the moment I’m all about fresh looking skin, I rarely apply foundation, I cover up imperfections with concealers just to look a bit more awake and I focus on eye and cheek products. I’m looking forward to the autumn days, hoping that the lower temperatures will be better for my skin, as well.

June Favourites

Waking up in Rome on a special date for me and my family, feeling incredibly tired and excited at the same time, makes me wonder if some days are indeed real.
But when it comes to beauty, I can’t wait for Sephora, KIKO and all the charming little shops they have around here. I’m looking forward to trying new products in July, especially skincare because summer is the time to find items that keep the shine away from my T-zone but without drying out my skin.

However, it’s still June and this is what I’ve been loving the most in the past few weeks.
Last month, I shared with you how much I love spritzing the La Roche-Posay thermal water before applying Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I’ve used up the mini of the water I had and went back to an old favourite, Avène Thermal Spring Water. I have several at home and one in my handbag, it’s a must-have in the summer for me. It’s very gentle and feels incredibly soothing, I love how cooling it is after sun exposure and how hydrated my skin feels afterwards. The mist is so fine and a true pleasure to use. The thermal water can be used on irritations, rashes, sunburn and it’s great to have a bottle of it. I don’t use it as a toner but just to freshen up and hydrate the skin throughout the day or before applying facial oils so that they spread evenly and work their magic even better.

The Eucerin DermoPURIFYER Active Concentrate is not a new product for me and I’ve featured it several times in favourites posts. I’ve gone through so many bottles of it and I will keep repurchasing. If there is one product that can keep my combination skin blemish-free in the summer, leaving it hydrated, soft and luminous, it must be this lightweight milky serum. It absorbs almost instantly and you don’t really feel it but you start seeing results a few days later. I don’t hear people talking about it but it’s worth having a look at it if you have similar skin type.

The last few weeks have been time for trying to find a good face or face and body sunscreen in a spray form. But they’re just too oily for my face. Bioderma MAX SPF 50+ aerosol spray is supposed to be completely transparent and without the need to be applied with hands and patted onto the skin. First of all, the spray has visible yellow tint and second, you can’t just spray it on the skin and leave it there, you need to spread it evenly using hands. I don’t really think these are negatives, just the promises aren’t true to what the product is.
The spray can be used on face and body, I’m not so brave to apply it on my face because the product is very oily but my mum likes to top up her SPF when she is in the garden and applies Bioderma MAX SPF 50+ on her face and arms and her skin looks amazing with it. I use it mostly on my arms because I don’t sunbathe anyway but need the protection when I’m at home where we have proper summer and the yellow tint I mentioned makes my skin look so glowy and kind of tanned. I’m adding this product to my favourites because it’s easy to use throughout the day when you have to reapply your sunscreen, it makes the skin look very pretty and I have to say, mum’s skin looks better and better each day after using it. I still don’t think I’d try it on my face but the results on her make me consider doing it.

One of the most popular products from the drugstore brand Catrice is their Camouflage Cream Concealer in a pot. I’ve been meaning to try their Liquid Camouflage for so long but whenever I’m near a Catrice counter, it’s sold out. I have very dark circles under my eyes and I’m always on the hunt for the best concealer that can hide them. The Liquid Camouflage has great coverage, in fact, much better than many of the highend concealers, it stays on for hours, it’s creamy and dries to a matte finish.
The downside is definitely the shade range, I often find myself mixing the shades. Also, the applicator picks up a lot of product and in my opinion, it’s better to apply thin layers of this concealer, as it can look heavy, cakey and even dry.
But I haven’t used another concealer since I got this one and I really like it, I’d recommend it to anyone, not only if you’re on a budget, it’s just a great concealer and the secret is to find the best way for yourself to apply it.

Recently, I dear friend of mine sent to me amazing goodies that I’ve been using ever since. Lumene is one of the most popular Finnish brands and their Nordic Chic range is meant to have all the staples you’d need to put in your makeup bag. I love the classic look of this Moisturising Lipstick and the shade 3 Spring Beauty is the perfect everyday colour but with a twist. I’m not sure what the finish of the rest of the lipsticks is but this one has a slight metallic sheen to it, it’s not too out there, it’s definitely visible but not too metallic and looks quite interesting but still wearable at the same time. I really like it, I don’t have anything like this in my collection and I’ve been using it almost every day since I got it. The formula contains Argan Oil, so the lipstick feels moisturising indeed and smells almost like a MAC lipstick.
Another great beauty item that came from my lovely friend is this Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Sunset Blvd. This satin golden bronze beauty is fantastic for the summer months and as you probably already know, the texture is a dream to work with. Although I don’t wear eyeshadows on a daily basis, now I feel like I need all the Colourpop eyeshadows.

The fragrance I always seem to be repurchasing is definitely Lancôme La Vie Est Belle. It reminds me of a special trip with my better half and because of this memory, I keep getting the EDT version. But a few weeks ago, I decided to pick up the EDP and the scent took me back to wonderful days. This one is slightly more intense and longwearing on me and although I still prefer the EDT version a bit more, I’m simply in love with this sweet, feminine, powdery scent. It’s beautiful and lovely to use in the summer.

These are my favourite beauty bits for the month of June and I can’t wait for skincare and makeup shopping in July!

My Everyday Eyeshadow: MAC Patina

IMG_1784post IMG_1789post IMG_1808post IMG_1830post

I’m not an eyeshadow girl but I always think a neutral shade applied all over the lids looks sophisticated and a bit more presentable without trying too hard.

I fell in love with MAC Patina because it catches the light beautifully, it’s really easy to wear and it looks pretty on many skin tones.
For me, personally, is very hard to describe the shade because it’s unique. It has golden, brown and olive tones and frost finish. The versatility of this shade comes from the fact that it has golden shimmer but it’s cool-toned at the same time.

It’s not the most pigmented eyeshadow but the texture is smooth, blends easily and you can build up the colour. The staying power is excellent and it doesn’t crease.
I apply a nude shade as a base and then Patina all over the lid for a more polished look. It brightens up the eyes but still keeps the natural look.

If you don’t want to look overdone or you’re just not an eyeshadow fan but you’d like a little touch of colour to the lids, give MAC Patina a try.

Urban Decay Launched in Norway!

IMG_2134post IMG_2145post IMG_2149post IMG_2151post IMG_2155post IMG_2161post IMG_2165post IMG_2171post IMG_2498postIMG_2187post

The wait is over! Urban Decay launched in Norway and the brand’s products are now available at the Kicks stores in Oslo City and Steen & Strøm in Oslo and online at Kicks.no.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t go to the launch party because I was out of the country but the UD representatives in Norway kindly sent to me several products to try and here I am sharing my thoughts with you.

I got a Moondust Eyeshadow* in the shade Diamond Dog and I’m really sad that a swatch can’t show how pretty and sparkly it is. The shade is really wearable, it’s a deep brown one with white-gold shimmer and at first I was quite scared of this sparkly eyeshadow but there’s something really nice about it. First of all, the texture is very creamy and easy to work with, there’s just a minimal fallout and if you apply a primer, the product will stick to your lids. Even if I wouldn’t wear it on a daily basis, I have to say that you can apply just a thin layer for a daytime appropriate look or build it up to create ”wet”, sexy and sultry evening eye look. The eyeshadow looks sophisticated, blends like a dream and you can use it either dry or wet for more pigmentation.
If you’re not a fan of glittery eyeshadows, I think this one might change your mind – no chunks of glitter falling on your cheeks, no gritty texture, just a beautiful and comfortable to wear product.

I was really curious about the Perversion mascara*, I mean, doesn’t ”Bigger. Blacker. Badder” sound really promising? I like the sleek tube and the creamy formula. As with almost every new mascara, when you open it, it can be quite wet but this one is lightweight, so if you coat your lashes carefully and slowly, it won’t clump. Just don’t rush! The brush is not very small but I like that it’s not too big either, it’s bushy but not too large. I tend to be very messy when I apply mascara but I don’t poke my eyes or end up with mascara all over my face with Perversion.
The applicator is actually a twisted trim brush with many bristles to catch your lashes, volumise and lengthen them.
Another nice thing about this product is that my lashes don’t get crispy, they get a bit of a curl, length and volume but still feel soft and I can apply a new coat easily even hours later.
I learnt that Perversion contains Hairdensyl, a complex blend of proteins and amino acids—including marine glycogen, known to stimulate lash growth. Also, honey extract provides deep nourishment, sea idrolized elastine stimulates the hair follicle, and marine collagen protects. Unfortunately, I can’t report on that point because I’ve been using the mascara for just a couple of weeks and I guess this needs more time to be noticed.
I think it’s a very nice mascara and the dramatic look actually comes from the really black formula. It’s incredibly pigmented and impressive even with one coat.
I do think photos don’t do justice to mascaras and the situation looks much better in real life but I’m still trying to be more helpful with photos and swatches.

We talked eyes, now let’s talk lips!
24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in the shade Naked* is a warm-toned beige-pink with a matte finish, it almost looks like a muted coral. It goes fully opaque on the lips, has a waterproof formula and wears well for hours, it’s really long-lasting.
Urban Decay have many shades to choose from but I think this one can be a base for so many lipstick colours, it’s almost like a primer that evens out the lips. The formula contains Vitamin E, Jojoba Oil and Cottonseed Oil. I love this lip pencil because it’s creamy, easy to apply without dragging the lips, it lasts a very long time and doesn’t cause dryness. I like pairing it with a nude lipstick or wearing it on its own. It looks pretty with a lip balm on top as well.

I’m really happy that Urban Decay is now easier to find in Norway. I’m curious about so many of their products, like the new Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer for example. Sadly, the shades that I’m looking for are always sold out but hopefully I’ll be able to purchase it soon.

What is your favourite Urban Decay product?

Simple and Easy V-Day Beauty

IMG_1862post IMG_1864post IMG_1866post

Me and my boyfriend actually don’t celebrate Valentine’s day like most couples…we simply don’t celebrate our love just on this day. So, usually I bake cupcakes, he gives me a cute and funny card and then we watch football cause we’re both fans of the same team. I just like to feel comfortable and try to relax when I’m with him and even if we go out on a date night, I still want to feel comfortable and not put tons of make-up difficult to maintain.
If you’re like me, hopefully the next lines will be useful.

My Valentine’s day make-up is almost like my everyday make-up but with three additions: black eyeliner, eyeshadow and a bold lip.

First the base, I apply my favourite Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream (review here) for a natural finish. To brighten up the under eye area I use Rimmel Match Perfection Illuminating Concealer. Because I have combination skin, I powder my face with Bourjois Healthy balance powder (Review. I’ve already hit pan! I have to find a new one). To warm up my complexion, I use a darker shade of MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, nothing too crazy, I’m not good at contouring, so I’m just giving a little bit life to my face. For the eyebrows, I use my Clarins  eyebrow pencil. I apply the KIKO eye primer on my lids and then use their eyeshadow in 130 as a base. After that I apply MAC eyeshadow in Patina all over the lids. To make it just a little bit more dramatic, I use the GOSH Kohl eyeliner in Black. On my lashes, I apply a layer of the Maybelline Colossal Go Extreme Volum’ Express for separation and then Bourjois 1 Seconde Mascara for more volume and drama.
For my lips, I use another Bourjois product and it’s their Rouge Edition Velvet in 01 Personne ne rouge (review here).
Putting the finishing touches with a favourite perfume and a nail polish like Essie Sand Tropez (review here).

I decided to keep it simple and the only thing that I might actually change is to replace the bold lipstick with a nude one because I can’t get used to the red shades on me.
Hope you’ll be having a nice Valentine’s Day!
