Favourite Nail Polishes | Winter 2016

DSC_0642post
In the past couple of months, I’ve been reaching out for always the same nail shades and I decided to share them with you.

As you can see, I like to wear berry and burgundy nail polishes in the autumn and winter but I’m a nude nail lover, so Essie‘s Urban Jungle is the neutral shade here. It’s light grey with beige undertones and looks less sharp than a completely white nail varnish but still sophisticated and pretty.

The more purple shades are actually my most worn ones in the past few weeks. WYCON Nail Lacquer in N. 222 has its own review here simply because I’m in love with this lavender colour, the consistency and the shiny finish of it. A deeper mauve creme that goes opaque even with one coat is the p2 Volume Gloss Gel Look Polish in 021 Young Miss.

Maybelline SuperStay 7 Day Gel Nail Colour in the shade Berry Stain (review here) and Golden Rose WOW! Nail Colour in 62  are really similar berry colours but the Maybelline one is a bit brighter and more vibrant, while the Golden Rose one is kind of creamier and deeper purple.

Golden Rose WOW! Nail Colour in 66 is a beautiful burgundy shade that has the amazing formula of all the nail polishes from this range, I’m in love with these minis.

And last but not least, Essie and Damsel in a Dress (review here). This will always be one of my favourite winter shades, beautiful aubergine colour with a tiny bit of warm purple shimmer. It looks absolutely stunning!

Essie Haute In The Heat

DSC_0672post DSC_0674postIt seems that the last summer days make me want to wear a bright colour on my nails even more. I guess we all want summer to stay a bit longer with us.

That’s why Essie Haute In The Heat has been on my nails a lot recently. It looks a bit more red on the photos but it’s actually a raspberry shade, gorgeous for the warmer months. The formula is probably one of the best of the Essie polishes that I have, it’s creamy and pigmented but for me it takes two coats for an opaque look as I don’t have very steady hands. It has a very shiny finish and the colour looks incredibly flattering on many skin tones.

I guess most of you have at least one similar shade in their collection but the formula of this one is worth it and I can’t recommend this nail polish enough.

Essie Eternal Optimist

DSC_0135postDSC_0134post
I’m a nude nail lover and I always get the same nail polish shade but from many different brands, yet I  keep getting more and more.

However, the nail polish that I’m showing you today is a bit different because it has a hint of dusty rose in it. It’s absolutely beautiful, looks sophisticated and perfect for every day but it’s also fresh and girly without being too sweet.

I saw Eternal Optimist by Essie on some of the gorgeous Lora from Empurple outfit posts and then she did a separate review on it. I fell in love with the shade and I wanted to get it immediately. Unfortunately, it wasn’t so easy but when my boyfriend traveled to Germany several weeks ago, he remembered and got it for me. Since then, I’ve been using it pretty much every day.

The product has the typical Essie brush – wide and comfortable to work with. The formula is very creamy and dries pretty quickly. I need two coats for an opaque result. It doesn’t last more than 3-4 days on me even if I apply top coat but as I’ve mentioned before, all nail polishes wear off after a couple of days on me.

This is now one of my favourite nail polishes and I’d recommend it to all the nude nail lovers and to those who would like to have a bit of a twist to the grey or beigey nail shades.

Germany Beauty Haul

DSC_0104post

My boyfriend had a last-minute short trip to Germany last week and I told him that I wouldn’t want anything beauty-related. I love Germany and their cosmetics, there is such a big variety but I’ve accumulated so much in the past few months that I wanted first to use up what I already have.

However, he decided to get several things for me to try, most of them are body products.

We’re going to a much warmer place next week (basically, every place is much warmer than Norway), so he decided to pick some sun care products. Eucerin Sun Creme SPF 30 for Dry Skin is going to be his sun protecting face product because I think I’m going to rely on my CC creams, primers and so on.
For body, there will be the Piz Buin Sun Sensitive Skin Lotion SPF 30 and the Piz Buin After Sun Soothing and Cooling Moisturising Lotion. Haven’t tried any of these, so we shall see. We’re not going to be sunbathing but the trip would involve a lot of standing/walking in the sun and my boyfriend has very light skin that burns easily. I’m a bit more lucky and straight away get tanned without having the painful feeling.

Then he wasn’t sure what to pick from DM’s brand Alverde because I haven’t tried so many products from them but I’m always curious. At the end he got a Nettle and Lemon Balm Shampoo. I love herbal-based products and nettle shampoos used to make my hair very shiny when I was younger, so I’m curious to try this one out. As you may know, Alverde‘s products are using ingredients from certified organic agriculture, they’re without silicones, mineral oils, synthetic fragrances and dyes. I’m not a big fan of their make-up line but their skincare and body products are often a good choice.
Another product from Alverde is the Avocado and Shea Butter Repair Hair Mask and this one looks so familiar to me. Maybe I’ve used it years ago but I don’t remember. It also contains Vegetable Keratin, so both – the shampoo and the hair mask are vegan products.

The Schauma 7 Herbs Shampoo is completely unknown to me, sometimes I like their shampoos, sometimes they are a total miss for me, so I’m curious to see if this one would be good for my hair.

I haven’t talked about intimate washes so far and I actually think girls should mention it more often because it’s really important to use an appropriate product for the delicate area and there is nothing to be ashamed of. I’m a fan of the Sagella washes but I’ve always been curious about Sebamed because many people are sharing good reviews on their products. So, I will finally try it.
There’s also a face mask from Sebamed and it’s the one with Camomile, so it must be really calming and soothing and the sachets are going to be perfect for travelling.

I’m really excited about the body washes that my boyfriend picked for me. I love every body wash from Kneipp that I’ve tried and just take a look how pretty this Watermelon and Mint one looks! It would be great for the summer days.
The L’Occitane Bonne Mère Peach Shower Gel smells absolutely divine and is enriched with peach extract.
There’s one more product from L’Occitane because I love their body range and it’s their Verbena Body Lotion. My favourite was the one with roses from 4 different countries but I can’t find it and I’m not sure if it hasn’t been discontinued. Hopefully, this one will be just as good.

Then my boyfriend wanted to find something from the make-up stands but he said there wasn’t a big variety, so he picked a mascara from Catrice, it’s the Lash Extension Volume Mascara. I’ve been looking for Eternal Optimist from Essie for quite some time now, so he remembered and found it which makes me very happy.
Last but not least, is the Kaufmanns (literally) Skin and Children Cream and I’ve been looking for it for probably a year and a half. You can find it only in Germany and I hear so many people using it as a lip balm and claiming it’s the best lip balm ever.

Have you tried any of these products?

Simple and Easy V-Day Beauty

IMG_1862post IMG_1864post IMG_1866post

Me and my boyfriend actually don’t celebrate Valentine’s day like most couples…we simply don’t celebrate our love just on this day. So, usually I bake cupcakes, he gives me a cute and funny card and then we watch football cause we’re both fans of the same team. I just like to feel comfortable and try to relax when I’m with him and even if we go out on a date night, I still want to feel comfortable and not put tons of make-up difficult to maintain.
If you’re like me, hopefully the next lines will be useful.

My Valentine’s day make-up is almost like my everyday make-up but with three additions: black eyeliner, eyeshadow and a bold lip.

First the base, I apply my favourite Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream (review here) for a natural finish. To brighten up the under eye area I use Rimmel Match Perfection Illuminating Concealer. Because I have combination skin, I powder my face with Bourjois Healthy balance powder (Review. I’ve already hit pan! I have to find a new one). To warm up my complexion, I use a darker shade of MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, nothing too crazy, I’m not good at contouring, so I’m just giving a little bit life to my face. For the eyebrows, I use my Clarins  eyebrow pencil. I apply the KIKO eye primer on my lids and then use their eyeshadow in 130 as a base. After that I apply MAC eyeshadow in Patina all over the lids. To make it just a little bit more dramatic, I use the GOSH Kohl eyeliner in Black. On my lashes, I apply a layer of the Maybelline Colossal Go Extreme Volum’ Express for separation and then Bourjois 1 Seconde Mascara for more volume and drama.
For my lips, I use another Bourjois product and it’s their Rouge Edition Velvet in 01 Personne ne rouge (review here).
Putting the finishing touches with a favourite perfume and a nail polish like Essie Sand Tropez (review here).

I decided to keep it simple and the only thing that I might actually change is to replace the bold lipstick with a nude one because I can’t get used to the red shades on me.
Hope you’ll be having a nice Valentine’s Day!
