April Favourites

When you’ve been home enjoying the sunshine and suddenly you find yourself back in Norway where it’s properly snowing, it’s a bit confusing, to say the least. Is it spring, is it winter? May is almost here which means we’re one step closer to summer but Norwegian weather suggests otherwise.
But we’d better talk about beauty favourites.

My new favourite foundation is pretty similar to my previous favourite foundation but in a cushion form. Not only  Dior DIORSKIN Forever Perfect Cushion SPF 35 is easy to travel with but it also has the most beautiful soft matte radiant finish and looks natural. I love how long-wearing it is and the more I have it on, the better it looks. In the past few weeks, a few people around me also tried it and they all loved it, even those with dry skin. I have a full review on the foundation here.

Bobbi Brown Cheek Glow Palette in the shade Bare Cream & Desert Rosehas been my favourite multi-tasking product in the past month. I use it on my cheeks, lips and even on my eyelids. It’s a real spring/summer staple for me that made me fall in love with cream blushes. I never thought I could wear them with my combination skin but the texture is so light, blends so well and looks so beautiful that I use this palette almost every day. The colours are simply stunning and I’m quite sad that this is a limited edition product.

When me and my boyfriend were in Germany months ago, we went into a Rituals store and after purchasing some body and home products, I noticed many minis by the cashier’s. I just had to pick up a few and one of them was the Rituals Mild Eye Makeup Remover. I’d never tried any skincare bits from the brand and I thought this one might be good for travelling. It’s a bi-phase makeup remover and is indeed very mild yet effective. It removes eye makeup well, doesn’t feel too oily and doesn’t sting my eyes. The formula contains Lotus Flower and Rice Bran Oil.

Kérastase Aura Botanica Bain Shampoo* is part of the newest range of the brand, I’ll be soon preparing a whole blog post dedicated to the line, so stay tuned for that. I love all of the Kérastase shampoos I’ve tried over the years, so I expected to fall in love with this one, as well but there is something else that made me like it even more. With 96% ingredients of natural origin (including responsibly sourced Samoan Coconut Oil and Moroccan Argan Oil) this nourishing shampoo gently cleanses away impurities from the surface of the hair. The texture of the product looks and feels like a lightweight oil, but it transforms into a soft lather when in contact with water. It leaves my hair refreshed, really shiny, soft and less frizzy. This shampoo is free from silicones, sulphates and parabens, doesn’t strip or weigh down the hair and I actually didn’t expect it to last that long, considering I wash my hair almost every day.

The most unexpected product that I’m featuring in this monthly favourites post (at least for me) is Himalaya Herbals Baby Lotion. I’ve tried some of their body range items and for me there are hits and misses. I absolutely love their Multi-Purpose Cream and I should probably mention it more often. I don’t really remember how I got this mini baby lotion, I feel like it was part of a set and I somehow ignored it but one evening it was so hot that I didn’t feel like using my rich body moisturisers. So, I decided to try this one and I’ve been using it all the time since then. The texture is milky and really light, it absorbs almost instantly and leaves the skin soft and hydrated. The formula of the lotion contains Almond Oil and Olive Oil which means it’s full of Vitamin E, it’s also free from parabens, mineral oil and lanolin. I don’t know if it’s good for baby skin but I personally, find it very soothing, non-sticky, non-greasy and just lovely.

Now I’m excited to see what will be new to try in the month of May…

Dior DIORSKIN Forever Perfect Cushion

It is no secret that my favourite foundation for the past year or so has been Dior DIORSKIN Forever Perfect Skin-Perfecting Foundation SPF 35 (review here). It’s lightweight, long-wearing, has matte but radiant finish at the same time, looks natural but also has great coverage. It’s just the perfect base for me, so when the brand launched their new Dior DIORSKIN Forever Perfect Cushion SPF 35, I had really high hopes for it. Actually, I’ve never really liked a cushion foundation on my combination skin, they just always stay too dewy and as if they never completely set.

The new foundation comes in a traditional cushion compact, it’s refillable which is amazing because you can get it at a lower price but it’s also better for our environment.
The texture of the cushion foundation is lighter than the liquid foundation one but feels a bit creamier than other cushion foundations I’ve tried. The formula is quite smooth and easy to work with, it’s not too thin and messy as some of you may expect it to be.

I’ve always appreciated the skincare benefits of the liquid Forever Foundation and I was pleased to see that Dior DIORSKIN Forever Perfect Cushion SPF 35 makes my skin feel really soft and smooth, too and the more I wear it the better my skin looks. This foundation isn’t supposed to be hydrating but it feels really comfortable even on more dry areas.

I’ve tried using the Dior DIORSKIN Forever Perfect Cushion SPF 35 with different types of brushes, a makeup sponge and the cushion puff that comes with the compact. The tool of choice for me would be the beauty sponge but on days when I want a more matte finish, I know I can achieve it best with the puff even if it may sound a bit strange. The coverage is buildable, it’s a bit lighter than the liquid foundation but I always need concealer for my dark circles and imperfections, anyway. It evens out the skin tone, minimises the look of the pores and gives a soft matte but radiant finish without being flat or powdery-looking.

On me, the cushion foundation remains fresh for 9-10 hours, I still need to blot a couple of times during the day but that’s completely normal for my skin type.
If I have to point out any downside, it must be the high price but I don’t think anyone would expect it to be really affordable and also, the shade range which consists of only 6 colours is a bit disappointing.

For me, both of these foundations are fantastic and I’m really happy to have found the perfect ones for my skin. Dior DIORSKIN Forever Perfect Cushion SPF 35 is also great to travel with, the compact keeps the product fresh, so far and I hope it will remain the same in a few weeks time, as well. The foundation is comfortable to wear, gives a fresh look and if you want a flawless, matte luminous finish, I’d recommend checking it out.
