Love It or Hate It… | Byredo Gypsy Water Perfumed Oil Roll-On

At first glance, Gypsy Water is a scent I’d never wear. It’s too warm and soft for my taste, especially, in this perfumed oil form.
And speaking of perfumed oils, I have to say, I’m surprised not many people talk about them. They are usually quite handy and travel-friendly, the longevity is much better than a standard spray perfume and you don’t need to use that much, considering you don’t spritz it all over your body but you just apply it on your wrists and behind the ears.

Honestly, I got Byredo Gypsy Water in an oil form just because the spray EDP was sold out that day. And I’m actually glad I did that. But I still think that maybe I should have gotten Mojave Ghost instead.

And before it starts sounding totally confusing for you, I have to say, I applied Gypsy Water behind my boyfriend’s ears the other day although he was concerned that it was too feminine. A couple of minutes later, man’s chemistry turned this scent into  a woody and smoky beauty. I wish it smelled like that on me but on me, it feels much more powdery and warm. I admit, there are days when I’m not sure if I’d want to wear Gypsy Water, at all, days when I even dislike it on me and then there are days when I absolutely love it. Its warm elements, the glowing amber, the luscious sandalwood, the notes of juniper and incense… It feels cosy like a soft sweater on a freezing day, like warm crackles of the wood in the fireplace while it’s snowing outside…

Maybe it’s because it’s quite a complex scent. Top notes are of lemon, pepper, juniper. Heart notes: incense, pine needles, orris root. Base: amber, vanilla, sandalwood.

All scents feel different depending on the body chemistry but this one, in particular smells so different on everyone that you never know if it would suit you or not. Many say this is a citrusy scent and I’d like to disagree, as I don’t detect that too much and the notes are rather lemon leaves than lemon zest.
Also, the scent changes on me depending on the weather conditions and that’s probably my biggest problem. It’s not so nice on me when it’s too cold or too warm, I love it on fresh, a bit warmer days but not warm like summer, it’s a lot more crisp and the pine notes are more noticeable.

It’s definitely a unisex fragrance but I still think it smells better on men than on women (I’ve smelled it not only on me and my boyfriend but on another people, as well and that’s my personal observation). It’s a discreet and elegant scent, soft and sensual but maybe a bit too creamy for me.
Longevity in the perfumed oil form is much better than the spray, so if you love Gypsy Water, try the roll-on.

For me, this is not an easy to wear scent, it doesn’t suit everyone and I’m still unsure if it suits me, to be honest. Perhaps, Mojave Ghost would have been a better pick but I don’t regret having Gypsy Water in my perfume collection and I’m curious to know if you have it, too and how you feel about it.

Lisbon Beauty Haul | Skinlife, Rituals, Sephora

Lisbon has been amazing, so far! Well, it’s been a bit rainy and windy but I’m feeling so calm and happy here that the weather doesn’t really matter. I didn’t plan to do any beauty shopping in Portugal but I went ‘browsing’ in a few places and my boyfriend encouraged me with ”We don’t have these stores and brands, so just take the chance while we’re here!” and I took it.

During our first walk in the area of the hotel, we came across a beautiful boutique called Skinlife. It’s a lovely little shop with friendly people working there who were really helpful. Unfortunately, many of the items I was hoping to see there were sold out, so I ended up getting Byredo‘s Gypsy Water in a Perfumed Oil Roll-on variant. It lasts really long time on me, I can smell it even after I’ve taken a shower and I think I might be doing a separate blog post on it, as it’s not the type of fragrance I’d normally go for. Then I picked up the Aesop Parsley Seed Facial Cleansing Masque because I’ve been wanting it for years and I can’t wait to try it.

Rituals stores always smell so nice when you’re passing by, so I just need to go inside and take a look at what they have. We got The Ritual of Hammam – Purifying Treat Set for my dad because he loves the scent but he hasn’t tried some of the products. We also picked up two hand balms, I love that these come with pumps, it’s great to place them by the bathroom sink and use the balm after washing your hands. We already gave one to someone, so it’s not pictured above but we went for The Ritual of Sakura and The Ritual of Ayurveda scents. The brand’s shower foams are such a pleasure to use and I love collecting all the sizes, so when I saw the mini Sakura one which I was missing until now, I picked it up, as well. Then they gave us this beautiful gift, called Spring Blossom which contains The Ritual of Sakura Hand Lotion and La Vie en Rose Smooth Colour Gloss.

There are several Sephora stores around us, so the temptation is real. At first, I didn’t think I needed something but you just can’t go into a Sephora store and not pick up anything. To be fair, I’m writing this haul post now, so that I don’t continue buying more.
I was looking for some face masks which I didn’t find but at the end, most of the products I got, are actually face masks. And there is only one makeup product! But it truly is a stunner.
There were a few shades of the Givenchy Prisme Visage Face Powder available. I went for the darkest one, 7 Taffetas Caramel. It’s essentially a bronzing powder with a peachy brown highlight. The texture is so soft and smooth that it almost feels unreal. I’m in love with this face powder but there is a special lady that would love it as much as me and although, I really want to keep it, I will gift it to her.
Then I got a few minis of the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Micro Cleansing Foam because I really like it and I haven’t seen it in a travel size before (the only mini that I have was from their Christmas set). You can read my really old review on it here.
Another mini I needed was of the one of Pixi Glow Tonic, as I have the really tiny one and the standard one but I was missing this 100 ml bottle which is still a bit big for travelling but it seems like a good backup. Wish I could find those big bottles with pumps.
We were looking for the Dr. Jart + Ceramidin Cream for my boyfriend, as his skin is really dry but it was sold out in every Sephora. One of them, however, had this Help Me Ceramidin Trial Kit that contains minis (again with the minis, I just can’t help myself) of the Cream, Liquid and Gel Cream, so I thought I might try some, as well.
The cute Sephora Clay Masks were out on a display and it was pretty hard to choose which one to take with me but at the end, I got the Green, Red and Pink Clay Masks. It’s suggested that they can be used 4 times and I’m really curious about them because I already heard positive reviews.
I wish I could find the sheet masks from Skinfood but they don’t seem to have any of them. They also didn’t have the Freshmade Watermelon Mask from the brand, so I ended up with the Tomato Soup Sleeping Pack. I love the Dr. Jart + sheet masks and I think I haven’t had the Brightening Solution one before, although I’ve seen many people talk about it. Then my boyfriend added the Shake & Shot Rubber Soothing Mask to the basket although I wasn’t sure if I wanted it. It looks slightly creepy to me but he said he would enjoy seeing me try it… he sure will.
Patchology wasn’t that well stocked up, unfortunately, but I’m very curious about these Restoring Night Eye Gels, too bad the box has just 5 packs inside.
I’ve seen Papa Recipe Red Ginseng Honey Oil Mask somewhere before but I haven’t tried it. The brand has several types of these sheet masks but I limited myself to just one. Then the lady in the near said I was going wild with the masks and suggested to show me something new that wouldn’t be on a display for a couple more weeks but that I might be interested in. So, she brought a few Korean The Oozoo masks which seem a bit gimmicky but I hope they work because mixing the capsule with the mask right before applying it sounds great. At the end I picked up the Fresh Capsule Mask Rose Petal, the Face in-shot Mask Hydro Lift and the Face Energy Shot Mask Premium Black.

I feel like I have face masks for a couple of months ahead but it was just too tempting seeing all those products that I can’t find so easily in Norway. Now it’s time to start trying out all these beauty bits!
