New Bits from Clinique | Fall 2015

Recently, Clinique introduced new skincare and colour launches for Fall 2015. I got the chance to try several products from the make-up range and I can’t wait for you to read more about them.

The product that I was most excited about was the Clinique Just Browsing Brush-On Styling Mousse. It’s a limited edition in Norway, Denmark and Sweden. There are 4 shades in total and I have it in 02 Light Brownwhich is a bit light for me and I’m currently looking for a darker shade. The texture is quite unique, I haven’t tried a similar eyebrow product, it’s like gel-mousse indeed, so it’s a bit thicker than the other eyebrow gels. Also, the formula doesn’t contain fibres, it actually has a combination of silicone film formers to keep the brow hairs in place and to provide a water-resistant wear. I’ve seen so many mixed reviews on this product and I can understand why this happens. If you have thin eyebrows, you’re going to love this, as it really thickens the brows and makes them look amazing. If you have a bit bigger eyebrows like I do, you need to use a light touch to make them look neat or you can just wipe off the excess before application. The tiny brush makes it easy to control the amount of product used to make the brows natural-looking but also defined and tamed. The mousse stays in place all day, it doesn’t smudge or flake and it’s 100% fragrance-free.

It’s quite interesting how the famous Clinique Chubby make-up family now has Skinny friends. Clinique Skinny Stick Eyeliners don’t require sharpening, they are slim, retractable pencils with a precise tip. I believe there are 4 shades available in the Nordic countries and I have Skinny Jeans* which is a deep, almost navy blue colour that makes my dark eyes really pop. I love how the packaging correlates to the shade within and how lightweight they are, perfect for travelling! The formula is slightly on the drier side but it’s very soft, so it glides on pretty smoothly without pulling. It really creates a very thin and precise line and I’m very impressed by how long it stays in place without smudging. The colour payoff isn’t very intense but you can build it up for a more dramatic look. For me, personally, it has the perfect pigmentation because most of the time, I prefer a softer and more natural look with a matte finish and that’s what I get from this eye pencil.
These eyeliners are ophthalmologist tested, 100% fragrance-free and safe for people with sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers like me.

It’s exactly the type of brush I like, plastic with a lot of bristles to really separate the lashes and coat each and every tiny hair, there are over 250 bristles on this wand!
The shades in Scandinavia are 4 and I have 01 Jumbo Jet* which is really black and sadly, it’s the only shade available in Norway, as the other 3 are exclusively sold in Denmark and Sweden.
I wish the camera could capture better the way my lashes actually look, in real life they are much more fluttery and voluminous. This mascara doesn’t flake or smudge even after hours of wear and it actually requires a bit of an effort to remove at the end of the day. With one coat of this product, I get pretty and separated lashes with a look appropriate for every day and with two, they get bold, thick and incredibly black.

Have you tried any products from this new Clinique range?

Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel

DSC_0797post DSC_0806postBattle of the eyebrow gels continues! Suddenly, there are so many drugstore brow gels being released that I feel quite confused which one to try. My eyebrow routine always consists of both high-end and drugstore products but I did seem to use only one tinted brow gel in the past few months – the L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper (review here). However, in the last month or so it’s been replaced by another drugstore buy. I’m actually really surprised by the negative reviews that I’ve been seeing on it in the past couple of weeks.

Essence Make Me Brow comes in a much smaller tube and has two shades – 01 Blondy Brows (ashy light brown shade) and 02 Browny Brows (deep brown shade). I got both of them and they’re really good but I’m mostly using the darker one as my eyebrows are pretty black. This product is said to be a dupe for Benefit‘s Gimme Brow which I haven’t tried, so I’m sorry to disappoint but I can’t compare them.

Make Me Brow has a tiny wand that is very comfortable to work with and you get precise results. The applicator makes it smooth and effortless to apply the right amount of product – not too much, just enough. The formula contains fibres that give density, so at the end you get colour, shape and fill in. I like that this gel doesn’t make my brows hard, they definitely get a bit more stiff and they are set in place but without being crispy or painful.
I think the difference between this one and the L’Oreal one is that Make Me Brow‘s consistency isn’t so thick and the eyebrows look more natural with it.
I wear this brow gel on its own or on top of eyebrow pencil and it stays during the whole day.

I think this is one of the most exciting drugstore releases in the past year and I already got one more tube of it.

What’s your favourite drugstore eyebrow gel?

The Weekend Brow Shaper

IMG_3583post IMG_3587post
It’s Sunday! Weekends (especially if you’re lucky to have proper spring and summer months) are for quickly getting ready and going out in the sun. Here, in Norway, if we see the sun, we immediately try to go out and take a walk, for example, because we never know how much it’s going to last…usually, it’s about 20 minutes. So, when trying to save some time but also to still look presentable, I got my first tinted brow gel. I was always a bit sceptical because I have thick eyebrows with some sparse areas but they’re quite short and I was afraid of being left with two even thicker short lines above my eyes. I struggle with my brows anyway and didn’t think a tinted brow gel would solve my problems.

When I first tried the L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper, the case was exactly the one I just mentioned and I was shocked. I was sure that it wasn’t a product for me and I almost didn’t give it another go. However, everybody was talking so much about it that I tried it again. And again…
At the end I finally figured out how to use it. The brow gel contains fibres to thicken the eyebrows, so it’s better to be applied with as light motions as possible. Now I just barely touch my brow hairs because the product’s tint is very strong. The brush is small and really comfortable to use. The gel sets in place the brow hairs and keeps them all day without making them too crispy.

It comes in Blonde, Dark Brunette and Transparent, mine is in Dark Brunette but I think the transparent one would be another good choice. The best thing about this product is that you can get it at the drugstore. It’s now my brow product for days when I don’t have time or just don’t feel like spending 15 minutes only on my brows.

So, if you’re a bit disappointed by this type of products like me at first, try to practice applying it lighter.

Do you have L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper in your collection?
