Beauty Picks | Summer 2016

DSC_0289post DSC_0293postI’m enjoying my first proper summer days this year with my loved ones and couldn’t be happier. Reading about other people’s summer beauty essentials is something I really like and I realised that there are quite a few products I’ve been reaching for a lot lately.

If you haven’t already noticed, I adore facial mists and floral waters, I think they make a huge difference in my skin condition and I really like the L’Occitane Peony Perfecting Mist. It can be used as a toner before applying a moisturiser, as a make-up fixing spray or just to refresh the skin throughout the hot days. It has a delicate scent, it’s really fine and gives a long-lasting hydration. My skin feels much calmer after I started using this mist and it also looks much smoother. This product is a great multi-tasker and I’d highly recommend checking it out.

For my lips, I’m still in love with Lancôme Juicy Shakers, I’ve actually used up one of them already because they are so pretty and moisturising. One of my favourite shades is 301 Meli Melon because it’s perfect for that fresh and juicy summer look. I like how it leaves a nice dewy stain but the major part of the oil gets absorbed, it’s beautiful and hydrates the lips.

On my eyes, I’ve been using a lot the We Care Icon I Love Tigers Nude Palette (review and swatches here) in the past few weeks. It’s simple, it’s pretty, I love that it’s also travel-friendly, the texture of the shadows is amazing and I don’t think I need anything else at the moment. As I’ve said before, I don’t wear eyeshadows on a daily basis and I don’t have that many favourite palettes but this one has become a staple.

Clinique SPF 30 Mineral Sunscreen Lotion for Body* is my current body sun protectant. It’s a new one from the brand, it’s 100% fragrance-free and allergy tested, it’s oil-free and non-acnegenic. I apply it 15 minutes before sun exposure and try to reapply it every two hours. The sun is very strong at the moment, the temperatures are really high here and although I don’t sunbathe, I need that protection when I’m even out in mum’s garden.
This mineral sunscreen is really lightweight and absorbs quickly without leaving any sticky film or white streaks, it’s just invisible and comfortable on the skin. It protects against environmental aggressors and helps to reflect UVA/UVB rays by blocking them.
I don’t get sunburn easily but my boyfriend does and this lotion helps him a lot. Also, the bottle has a flip-top cap which makes it very easy to apply on-the-go.

At the moment, I’m using two body moisturisers. After my morning shower, I like to apply the Balea Body Gelée with Mint and Watermelon because it feels incredibly refreshing, gets absorbed almost instantly and doesn’t leave any residue. I can get dressed straight away and just start my day without worrying that I might get some sticky feel. The gel-like texture feels very soothing and lightweight and it’s also a bit cooling, perfect for the summer. At night I reach for the Biotherm Body Refirm Stretch Oil*. There’s something about the way Biotherm products smell, I love their scents, I first got a shower gel from the brand years ago and I still remember it, it felt really nice. The oil smells similar and brings back amazing memories. It’s not a greasy oil, it feels lovely on the skin and prevents from loss of elasticity and firmness. It gives me a lot of hydration, it tones my skin and doesn’t stain my clothes.

I’m still in love with Barry M Coconut Infusion Nail Paint range and especially the shade Starfish which is a light tan colour that would look amazing on anyone, I think. You can see the post on my collection of these nail varnishes here.

My favourite COLAB Dry Shampoo fragrance must be Monaco but I have to say the New York one is just as lovely. It’s nice to have this mini with me for hair touch-ups and it’s amazing that their Sheer + Invisible formula doesn’t leave any white residue in my roots.

Why haven’t I gotten a solid perfume earlier? I’m in love with the L’Occitane Cherry Blossom one, I carry it around with me all the time and I can always top up my fragrance. It smells absolutely divine, it’s alcohol-free and I should get some more of this type.

These are my summer beauty picks this year, what are your staples during the warmer months?

Empties #8

DSC_1087post

I can’t believe that this is my first post with empty products for 2016! I’ve had so many new products to try, so many things to write about that somehow my empties kept growing without me realising it. So, let’s have a look at all of them…this might actually be a pretty long post.

DSC_1089post
Face
Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder – I always go back to this powder, I love it, it keeps me matte but doesn’t look flat, it’s great, it’s from the drugstore and this was probably my 6th pot of it;
MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in Medium Plus – Another favourite of mine, I actually got it in a darker shade, so that I could use it as a bronzer because it really looked natural and not too dark;
Max Factor Lipfinity – Liquid lipsticks really aren’t my thing. I love this shade which sadly, isn’t written on the tube and I forgot the name of it but it’s a gorgeous deep pink colour. However, the texture is quite heavy, it dries out my lips, it’s impossible to remove and at some point it just peels off. I admit that I’m throwing this away without actually using up the product;
Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in 201 Solstice – This on the other hand, oh my, I love this lip lacquer and I’m very sad it’s over because we don’t have Rimmel in Norway! The shade is beautiful, the texture isn’t of a liquid lipstick, isn’t of a lip gloss, it’s something in between, lacquer describes it really well, actually. It has a shine but it’s thicker than a gloss, it’s not drying like the liquid lipsticks are, it doesn’t last a really long time on the lips but feels comfortable, looks flattering and I’ll be definitely repurchasing;
Maybelline ColourSensational in 130 Peach Juice – I don’t know what I was thinking when I got this lipstick, maybe it just looked different in the store and their low lighting but it’s definitely not a peach shade, it’s bright pink and I could make it work pairing it with other lipsticks but I didn’t reach out for it often and it started smelling funny, so it’s time to say goodbye;
Urban Decay Perversion Mascara – Although this mascara has bristle brush, which I normally don’t go for, I really liked it especially because it made my lashes really black and separated without making them crispy;
Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water – Another bottle is gone and I already have a few new ones, this micellar water just gently removes the major part of my make-up before cleansing and toning my face;
LUSH Tea Tree Water – It was not a bad one but I can make my own tea tree toner really easy and that’s why I don’t think I’d repurchase;
Estelle & Thild Facial Toner Neroli – Love the brand, loved how gentle this toner was, sadly, it has been discontinued, I believe;
Balea Lotus Eye Cream – One of my favourite affordable eye creams. It’s hydrating but feels light, it’s not stingy and makes my under eye area really soft;
Simple Revitalising Eye Roll-On – Eye product for the warmer months that has a nice cooling effect and non-sticky gel formula;
Eucerin DermoPURIFYER Active Concentrate – That was the first time I tried this product from my favourite Eucerin range and I loved it. It’s basically a serum with lactic acid that kept me blemish-free but without drying out the face and made my skin incredibly soft;
La Roche-Posay Effaclar K – This tube lasted me a really long time because I used the product only as an additional step when I had really bad breakouts to help the healing process and it was really nice. I think it has a new formula now and I’m curious to try it;
Biotherm Aquasource Cocoon – I love the way Biotherm products smell and this face cream gave me the needed moisture in the winter months but without making me oily and without being heavy on my combination skin. It feels quite rich and balmy but sinks into the skin quickly and leaves it hydrated. Really liked it as a make-up base, as well;
Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser – At first, I was a bit scared of this cleanser because it felt heavy and too foamy but I quite enjoyed it after that. It wasn’t stripping but it was also good for the shine control. However, I’m trying to use another type of cleansers at the moment and I won’t be getting another tube of it;
Formula 10.0.6 One Smooth Operator – Same applies for this exfoliant. I didn’t mind it when I was using it but now that it’s been so many months after I used it up, I think it might be a bit too harsh for my skin.
Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask – A favourite! Already have a new tube of this amazing face mask and I don’t think I can be without it;
Biotherm Lip Balm – This was a random purchase, I got it from an airport because I needed a lip balm but I didn’t like it so much. Maybe it can be better as an overnight treatment though;
Eco Lips Berry Lip Balm SPF 15 – An organic balm that smells really nice and has amazing moisturising properties, I loved it;
Sephora Green Tea Eye Mask – I’m really sad that there are no Sephora stores in Norway, I adore their masks, they are so calming, refreshing and nourishing;
Beauty Formulas Deep Cleansing Nose Pore Strips – Ok, I know this isn’t the best thing for your skin but I have an addiction;
MaskerAide Detox Diva and Beauty Rest’ore Sheet Masks – I saw these masks at the drugstore a few weeks ago, they looked fun and they had a lot of promises on the packaging, so I picked out two of them. I have to say, I really liked them and I honestly can’t wait to try more, they were so relaxing, they left my skin soft and radiant. I’m also curious about the eye masks from the brand.

Body
Ziaja Lime-Citrus Shower Gel – Ziaja have some amazing body washes and although I like their Orange Butter one more, this one felt really fresh and nice, too;
Dove Purely Pampering Almond Cream Body Wash – Looking at the empty bottle of this, I wonder why I haven’t purchased a new one yet. It has a lovely warm scent, soft and creamy texture and I really enjoyed using this body wash;
All Nature Angelica and Argan Oil Shower Gel – This one smelled a bit like candy but without being too sweet, it was nice and non-drying;
Sante Grenadine Spirit Shower Gel – My favourite winter body wash, reminds me of Christmas and I’d like to try more from the brand;
Balea Fresh Smoothie Shower Gel – To me this one smelled like green apples although the packaging said otherwise, I like Balea body washes because they just seem fun and they have tons of different scents;
Balea Buttermilk & Lemon Peeling – Another product with a nice scent, to me this smells like lemon drizzle cake but the exfoliating properties weren’t that great, unfortunately;
Sanctuary SPA White Lily & Damask Rose Body Scrub – Same applies for this scrub, it just didn’t do anything but I loved the fragrance;
– Sanctuary SPA White Lily & Damask Rose Body Lotion – Not the most moisturising body lotion but again, my favourite Sanctuary SPA scent;
Soap & Glory Scrub + Happiness Hand Scrub – I got this mini in a set and it lasted me a really long time, it does a great job at exfoliating the hands without being too harsh and smells like all Soap & Glory products, sweet and nice;
CD Pomegranate Deo – It turns out it’s really hard to find aluminum-free deodorants, so I was really happy to get this one, I liked the gentle scent and I’d definitely purchase another one;
Lancome La Vie Est Belle – I have so much love for this fragrance… It reminds me of London, brings back great memories, it’s feminine and elegant but a bit sweet, as well, it’s just lovely;
Cutex Nourishing Nail Polish Remover – There isn’t any nail polish remover that can compete with my favourite Lilly one but this one wasn’t bad. It actually leaves a nice scent even after washing the hands, it feels soft and non-drying and I’d repurchase if I can’t find my favourite one;
Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream – This mini tin lasted me such a long time, I really like this product to soften my cuticles and also nourish my nails and the skin around them;
Origins Rejuvenating Hand Cream – An underrated hand cream that isn’t greasy but hydrates really well, I liked it a lot;
L’Occitane Immortelle Brightening Hand Cream SPF 20 – I used to pair this hand cream with another one because it wasn’t the most moisturising one, I think it’s good for spring and autumn but for the colder months, I needed a second one. However, L’Occitane hand creams are some of my favourites;
Baby Foot Easy Pack – This is a very strange product for me although, many people use it a lot. First of all, it’s quite pricey for just one pair of plastic socks and that put me off at the beginning but then I had problems in the winter and decided to give it a go. It really made the skin of my feet incredibly soft and smooth but during the two weeks of waiting for all the dead skin to peel off… it was just looking and feeling very unpleasant. But I have to say, I’d do it again because the results were amazing.

Hair
L’Oreal Ever Sleek No Sulphates Smoothing & Intensely Nourishing Shampoo – Loved this shampoo, it made my hair shiny, soft and smelling so nice;
Swiss O’ Par Tea Tree Oil Shampoo – This is my purifying shampoo that I use once a week and many people hate the smell of it. I don’t mind it and I love how clean my hair gets with it;
All Nature Thyme & Rosemary Shampoo – That was my previous clarifying shampoo which I liked, too. It just made my hair clean and shiny, with a lot of volume;
COLAB Tokyo Dry Shampoo – A dry shampoo that needs to be sprayed a few hours before you go out or the night before to actually notice a difference but it really refreshes the hair and gives it a bit of volume without leaving white residue or sticky feel. I’m really happy that the brand is now available in Norway but the price is 3 times higher than in the UK, sadly;
Dove Intensive Repair Hair Mask – I love Dove hair products and this was no exception, a nice nourishing mask;
Mark Hill Big Night Out Detox Gloss Treatment – This was a random purchase but I quite liked the product, it really made my hair shiny and beautiful and smelled amazing.

These are my first empties for 2016, hope you could find something helpful in the lines above!

December Favourites

DSC_0429postDSC_0430postDSC_0435postp2lipstick
Hope you’ve had an amazing Christmas with your loved ones and now you’re ready for last month’s of 2015 favourites!

I did quite a bit of travelling in December and my skin always suffers when I’m away. So, I had to be sure that I have skincare helpers in my beauty bag.
The combination of two products really made the difference and these two products are Maya Water Facial Mist with Organic Acai* and Biotherm Aquasource Cocoon*.
I love facial mists and this is the first facial mist with Norwegian thermal spa water that I’ve tried. It gives an instant boost of hydration and when you apply an oil and/or moisturiser on top, it just locks the moisture. This mini size bottle contains Vitamin A, C and E, Zinc, Iron and the fatty acids Omega 3, 6 and 9 which really provide amazing care for the skin in the winter.
At first, I wasn’t sure if the moisturiser would be good for my combination skin as it’s more appropriate for dry skin. However, the unique balm-in-gel formula is really hydrating without making my face oily. It can be used day and night but I think it’s a great make-up base, as it really smooths out the skin and the foundation applies very well after that.

To keep my hands soft, I’ve been relying on the new Frosted Plum Hand Cream from The Body Shop. My hands tend to bleed in the cold months and this is a very lightweight but really nourishing cream that doesn’t leave a sticky residue and smells gorgeous!

I also have a couple of make-up favourites. Like this affordable but extremely good eye pencil from Essence. The shade is 06 Cocoa Bean and it’s really pigmented while the dark brown looks quite flattering and not so harsh as black, for example. The formula is waterproof and you have some seconds to smudge the liner if you want, after that it sets and doesn’t move during the whole day. Plus, the pencil doesn’t require sharpening because it’s a retractable one.

My favourite lipstick has been one I picked up in Munich at the beginning of the month. It’s from p2 and and their Full Shine Lipstick range. The shade is 080 Tell me a Tale which is a wearable vintage pink one that looks simply gorgeous, the formula is creamy and feels pretty luxurious on the lips. Pity that it’s not available outside Germany.

What have you been loving in the last month of the year?

Empties #5

DSC_0154post DSC_0157postHair:
Balea Professional Pure Volume Shampoo – Can’t wait to get more tubes of this shampoo, I love how light the gel texture of it is, it gives me lots of volume and makes my hair shiny. Really good and affordable product;
Batiste Cherry Dry Shampoo – The cherry fragrance isn’t my favourite from the Batiste range but in terms of refreshing my hair, it’s doing the job very well;
Elseve Total Repair Shampoo – This was a bit too heavy for my hair, I think it would be better for someone with more dry or damaged hair.

Body:
Dr Greve Sensitive Shower Cream with Almond Oil and Oats – I’ve mentioned that this product feels like combination of a body milk and a shower cream, it’s really nourishing, I like it a lot and I can find it at the drugstore;
Sanctuary SPA Cleansing Burst Body Wash – It has a very interesting scent and texture with small particles that burst in contact with water and skin, I really enjoyed using it but I have a new favourite Sanctuary SPA range, so I think I’d be sticking to it for the moment;
Roger & Gallet Revitalising Sorbet with Apricot Oil and Aloe Vera – One of my favourite body moisturisers for any time of the year. It’s light but moisturising, it smells amazing and the scent can linger for days on your clothes, it’s such a lovely product;
Palmolive Thermal SPA Shower Gel – Nothing too special but I love the big bottle as I go through body washes like water. Feels fresh, not the first time I’m using it and probably won’t be the last either;
Rituals Fortune Scrub with Organic Mandarin and Yuzu and Rituals Touch of Happiness Sweet Orange and Cedar Wood Body Cream – My boyfriend got these for me in a gift box and I can’t explain how much I liked it. I think Rituals isn’t mentioned enough in the beauty world although they have some great body products. These two products have different but kind of similar scents, they’re fresh but warm at the same time and they are really good. In fact, the whole box was amazing and I think they have some great sets, so that you can try the products and see what you like. Perfect to travel with and gives you the chance to decide what you’d like to purchase in full size;
Kneipp Lemon Shower Cream – You can’t go wrong with Kneipp’s shower creams, they’re gentle to the skin, they nourish it while leaving it clean, I love trying new scents and I’ll keep purchasing them;
Kneipp Figs Milk and Argan Oil Shower Cream – This one was even better than the one above, the way it smells and feels on the skin is amazing;
Soap & Glory Hand Food – I have several scents from the range and I love them all, it’s such a popular and loved product and there is a reason for this. It has great moisturising properties, smells sweet and this big tube lasts a really long time;
Burt’s Bees Hand Salve – Another hand saviour. I’m in love with this product, it’s my winter hand moisturiser in the nights because it feels quite heavy and oily when it melts but it gives such a soothing feeling and hydrates the skin really well.
Faith in Nature Roll-On Crystal Deodorant* – This may not smell very strong but it’s very fresh, doesn’t contain nasty ingredients and it’s suitable for men and women.

DSC_0169postFace and Nails:
Eucerin DermatoCLEAN Micellar Water – I don’t know how many bottles of this I’ve gone through. It’s probably the first micellar water that I’ve tried, it can be used as a toner, as well, it’s suitable even for sensitive skin and I have to get a new one;
ACO Daily Purifying Toner – It’s an affordable exfoliating toner that I was using a couple of times in the week. It didn’t dry out my skin but I have so many similar products at the moment that I don’t think I’d be repurchasing for now;
Clinique Clarifying Lotion for Oily/Combination Skin – A more expensive exfoliating toner that was a little bit more harsh on my skin but if you use it just 2-3 days of the week, it shouldn’t be a problem. I personally prefer this one to the one above because I really saw a difference in my skin condition with it;
BioKarite Anti-Age Eye Cream – As I said before, I didn’t see that this cream was suitable for older skins but this wasn’t a problem for me. It’s very gentle for the eye area, it’s really hydrating and I would definitely re-purchase it. Plus, it’s from the drugstore;
Decleor Hydra Floral Moisturising Cream – A cream for dry skin which I used on my cheeks and neck in the winter and I was really happy with it. Smells amazing and has a thick texture that sinks into the skin without making it greasy;
Eucerin DermoPURIFYER Day Cream – I don’t know how many times I’ve been talking about this product. It’s my favourite moisturiser, it works great on my skin and this was probably my 5th bottle of it;
Garnier Skin Renew Overnight Regenerating Cream (discontinued) – This cream seemed to never sink into the skin, always stayed on the surface without actually doing anything for my face;
La Roche-Posay Effaclar DUO + – Everybody knows this product, it works well on me when my skin is a bit problematic but I’m trying not to use it too often as my skin can get used to it and the effect isn’t so visible after that;
GlamGlow Supermud Clearing Treatment – I did a review on this mask here. I love the product because it makes my skin look very good, removes all the impurities and tightens the pores. However, I wouldn’t re-purchase because it dried out really quickly although I always closed the jar well. The quantity is small and although the product is amazing, it’s just not worth the price tag;
Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer 002 – I’ve mentioned before that I have mixed feelings towards this product mainly because it promises to mattify the skin but it just doesn’t do it for me;
Maybelline Colossal Go Extreme! Mascara – Not a bad mascara but definitely not my favourite. I can’t wear it all day as I get fallout 3-4 hours after application. Has a big brush and I usually prefer smaller ones, so it wasn’t very comfortable to work with;
Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara – Much better than the one before although the brush isn’t my favourite, once again. However, it gives a lot of volume, it lengthens the lashes and lasts a long time;
OPI Nail Envy for Dry & Brittle Nails – I did a review on this product here. I’m trying to replace it with something else at the moment but it seems to be irreplaceable. Such a good nail care product, it’s pricey, especially in Norway but it keeps my nails in great conditione when I use it.

Samples and Sachets:
Biotherm Liquid Glow Reviving Oil – Didn’t have very much time to use this, so I can’t say if it’s nice for my skin but it didn’t irritate it and it smelled amazing;
Biotherm Blue Therapy Night Serum-in-Oil – I can say the same about this one too, the amount was just not enough for noticing major difference in my skin condition but my face got very soft with this serum-in-oil. Again, it smelled wonderful;
Origins VitaZing SPF 15 Energy-boosting Moisturiser – I enjoyed using this one although it was a bit orange on me, I could make it work but I don’t think I’d purchase the full size;
Guerlain Baby Glow – It gives you baby glow indeed but for me it was a bit too glowy and even shiny because of my combination skin, so I had to powder more often. That’s the only thing that stops me from purchasing the full size product for now. I loved how it gives a sheer coverage but enough to make you look healthy and fresh, I didn’t even feel it on my skin, it was so lightweight and nice;
Dior Nude Air – The shade that I was given was way too dark for me and the texture was too liquid, so it’s not the easiest foundation to work with. The finish is beautiful but the product doesn’t stay very long on my shiny T-zone and it just disappears in the middle of the day;
Dermica Honey Peel-Off Mask – Looks and smells like honey, this mask made my skin softer and more nourished.

Do you have experience with any of these products?
