Travel Essentials

It’s about time to start packing for my upcoming two-week trip that involves an 8-hour car ride, 20-some hours on a ship and 2 hours on a plane. And this will happen on the way back too – fun, right? Not.

Here are some of the most important items that I’m bringing with me. Of course, I haven’t featured everything because I was trying to focus more on basic skincare and beauty products. You be sure to take your cameras, snacks and hand sanitizers. Also, I’m always loaded with all types of wipes and medicines (I just like to be prepared).

My intention is to get pretty much from the countries that I’m visiting so I’m keeping it simple in my travel purse.

To take off my makeup I use the Eucerin DermatoCLEAN Mild Cleansing Milk because it works very nice on my skin, takes off everything and doesn’t irritate my face. I’m carrying with me Nuxe Micellar Foam Cleanser with Rose Petals to wash my skin with (review here).

I’m not mentioning some of the products that I use for cleansing my face because they would go to travel cosmetic bottles like the rose water which I use as a toner.

There are several moisturizers that I’m taking with me and they are: La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mat, La-Roche Posay Effaclar K and Eucerin DermoPURIFYER Adjunctive Hydrating Care SPF 30. Also, I use L’Occitane Angelica Ultra Matte Fluid as a base because I don’t like to put so much makeup on my skin when I’m traveling (especially on the airplane) and it’s perfect for my combination skin – it hydrates it, mattifies it and you can apply just a little bit of foundation (sometimes I even skip this!) and concealer and you’re ready for the day. I just love this product! My eye gel is from the same series – L’Occitane Angelica Eye Roll-On. As to the concealer, I chose just a highlighting one because I’m gonna be on a hunt for concealers anyways and I only need it to cover my dark circles, it’s the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer. To set everything I’m bringing my MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Powder and it’s in a darker shade than my usual because it’s spring!

I will pick one of my shampoos and put it in a travel bottle but for conditioner I chose L’Occitane Aromachologie Repairing Conditioner – great stuff! It was actually in a travel bag from L’Occitane with some other goodies, like the wonderful Almond Shower Oil and the Shea Butter Ultra Rich Body Cream. I actually like a lot of stuff by L’Occitane, don’t I?
To spoil my hair a little bit more I’m taking my mini Moroccanoil Hair Treatment.

The EDT is from Yves Rocher and it’s Red Berries Smoothie. I prefer it because it’s super small and I can even carry it in my hand luggage, not to mention that it smells delicious and it’s affordable.

Something that I never go anywhere without is a lip balm, I literally have one everywhere. For the trip I’m taking the Origins Lip Remedy.

That’s the most important of my travel essentials.

Hope it was interesting for you and maybe you can get some ideas for your trips as well.

Mavala Pastels (+Swatches)

Last week I saw an advertisement about the Mavala Delicious Colours although the collection is 2 years old. It’s spring and I decided to check them out but unfortunately I couldn’t find all of them. The one that I actually wanted to try most was Frozen Berry but it wasn’t available. In fact, I got only one shade from this collection and it’s Blue Mint. So, I picked two more from the same brand to try them and make Mavala mini pastels collection. The other two that I chose are Touch of Provence and Vanilla.

1. Touch of Provence seemed closest to the desired by me Frozen Berry. It is a lavender purple colour that has a little frosty finish, the application goes very smooth and I used two coats just to make sure that everything is covered. It has the highest coverage of the three.

2. The shade that I was struggling with was Vanilla. It was too liquid and with lightest coverage, kind of milky, so I needed three coats. But at the end it’s a very pretty nude.

3. Blue Mint is a sky blue pastel with just a bit of shimmer and I really love this shade! Again three coats before the final result.

These nail polishes are affordable and super easy to carry with you since they’re in a 5 ml packaging. Smoothly applied and they also come off easily with the nail polish remover (don’t you just hate it when you have to rub 5 minutes for the last stains left?)

According to the brand’s website “All Mavala’s colours are free from harmful ingredients such as parabens, formaldehydes, toluene, camphore, cellophane, animal ingredients and heavy metal” and “The formula delivers microscopic air pockets to allow nails to breathe, ensuring your natural nails are cared for”.

I can say that I love the formula of these nail polishes and I will be definitely getting more from Mavala.

KIehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser

I don’t have huge experience with clay cleansers but I’ve tried some in my life and honestly I wasn’t impressed. Usually it’s great to use clay cleansers when you have combination to oily skin but somehow it didn’t work for me.

Until I tried Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser. It’s a thick and creamy cleanser, it has tiny exfoliating particles that dissolve when you use the product on your damp face, it’s not a harsh one, it’s exfoliating your skin very gently. It’s not very foamy but it cleanses your skin deeply, leaving it soft and smooth. It won’t dry you out and it kind of mattifies your skin.

I’ve been using it for a month or so and I can tell that my pores are reduced a little bit and I don’t feel my skin tight after washing the product off. I tried to use it every night and it was ok but then I saw some dry patches appearing after some weeks so I decided to use it just a couple of times a week and everything was back to normal. I still use it at night because I feel better when I cleanse my skin deeper after a long day and use a milder cleanser in the morning (it may not be aggressive but it’s still an exfoliator).

If you’re looking for a cleanser that is mild but also exfoliates your skin and reduces your pores, try this one.

Nuxe Micellar Foam Cleanser with Rose Petals

I don’t change my skincare routine often because I tend to get breakouts even if I include/exclude only one product. Also, I’m not quite sure how my face feels about foam cleansers because most of them leave my skin oilier than usual. However, I saw this one about a month ago in one of the pharmacies here and it was presented as a new product. Probably it’s just new for the market here cause I’ve seen it before.

It’s my favourite foam cleanser so far. It’s very gentle, soap-free, soothes and softens the skin. It’s suitable for normal to combination sensitive skin. I did get breakouts after the first couple of times using it but soon after that everything was back to normal. Has light rose scent and it’s not as thick as other foam cleansers.

One pump is enough to clean your face day and/or night, I use it only in the morning.

This is the first Nuxe product that I’m trying and I like it very much. Can’t wait to check some other products from them, especially their super famous lip balm.

March Favourites

The first of my March favourites is an every-day-favourite and it’s the Eucerin DermoPURIFYER Hydrating Care. Since I have a combination to oily skin, this product helps my skin stay hydrated without being sticky. My skin gets softer, kind of mattified and nourished. And it has a pump! I just can’t say enough good words about the Eucerin products in general.

The second one is a hand cream and it’s the L’Occitane Shea Butter Subtle Violet Hand Cream. It comes in a limited edition and I actually got it in November last year when I was in London but I was loving it last month since the weather in Norway is still pretty cold. It’s a thick cream that smells amazing, makes my hands soft and gets absorbed quite fast.

Next one is also a hand product and it’s the Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. This cream is just so wonderful, it has natural ingredients, smells great, doesn’t leave a sticky film on your fingers, nourishes the nails and the cuticles and after using it, you have beautiful nails and no trace of dry cuticles.

I may be slightly obsessed with lip balms, I always take a look at new ones no matter how many I have. Some time ago I noticed a brand called Love & Toast and their pretty packaging. I’ve got a shower cream, a body butter and a lip balm. Later, the brand disappeared from Norway and there were no more of their products here. However, their Prickly Pear Lip Balm was the one that kept my lips hydrated last month. It has a light texture, it’s not sticky, smells fantastic, has organic oils and it’s not tested on animals! I use it daytime because at night I like to have a thicker balm on my lips. The thing that I don’t really like is that I have to use my fingers to get the product which means that I apply it only at home.

I’ve been searching for a new eye product that doesn’t burn my eyes but also works against my dark circles and makes me look less tired. And then it came! The Angelica Eye Roll-On by L’Occitane. I apply it day and night, my dark circles are still there but less visible I think. It’s a gel that smells fresh, it’s very gentle and suitable for all skin types. I keep it in the fridge for a fresher experience but unfortunately it wasn’t possible to find it in the town that I live so I had to purchase it.

The nail polish that I was often using in March was Essie’s Jag-u-are. For me it’s just the perfect red.

I’ve been totally loving my Arsenal white scarf during the cold month and seeing the weather outside, I’m pretty sure that we’re going to be often together in April as well.

The book that made the biggest impression on me last month was The Night in Lisbon by Erich Maria Remarque. It’s a tough one for me but Remarque is Remarque!
