Favourite Haircare Range | Kérastase Aura Botanica

A few months ago, I got the chance to try the full Kérastase Aura Botanica range and I’ve been meaning to write a blog post on it after weeks of using it. But then I decided to colour my hair for the first time in my life and to wait and see if the products would work the same way on coloured hair as they did on my natural hair. I also wanted to try other shampoos in between to be able to witness the real effect and I was amazed. Since then, I’ve repurchased some of the Aura Botanica products myself but I’m marking all with an * to be completely honest with you that initially I got sent all of them. So, this took quite a bit of time but here it is my honest opinion on this haircare range.

First of all, I’d like to say that the state of my hair depends very much on the place I’m at and mainly on how hard the water there is. My natural hair is soft but really heavy and thick at the same time, sadly it gets greasy quite easily and I need to wash it every other day which can lead to drier ends. I’ve been using Kérastase products for years because they are some of the few that turn the water factor into a less significant one and I adore their purifying shampoos. So, I was really happy and curious to see the newest Aura Botanica range that contains 96% natural origin ingredients, handpicked Samoan Coconut Oil and Moroccan Argan Oil and is also silicone-, sulphate- and paraben-free. It also comes in the most beautiful packaging and two of the products are in glass bottles which may not be practical for travelling but it’s better for the state of the ingredients inside and it feels even more luxurious.

Kérastase Aura Botanica Concentré Essentiel Hair Oil* (470 kr)
If you want to get just one product from the range, this is the one! A real treat for your hair that makes a difference after the first use. And it’s actually a multi-use product but my favourite way of applying it is either 15-30 minutes before washing my hair or as an overnight hair treatment. A small amount of the oil on washed, wet or dry hair can be great for controling the frizz but the formula can also be used as an intensive treatment on dry patches around the body.
It’s made of a beautiful 99% natural blend that combines omega-rich Avocado Oil with Jojoba Oil and Rosemary extract to soften, enhance shine and revitalise. It also contains one of my favourite ingredients in beauty, Rosa Damascena. It smells incredible thanks to Sweet Orange Essential Oil and looks like a regular serum but it’s somehow so much lighter that even fine hair won’t be weighed down. This oil leaves my hair incredibly shiny, nourished and soft without being fluffy.

Kérastase Aura Botanica Bain Shampoo* (280 kr)
After waiting at least 15 minutes for the hair oil to do its magic, I’d wash my hair with the shampoo. It contains 96% ingredients of natural origin (including the mentioned above responsibly sourced Samoan Coconut Oil and Moroccan Argan Oil) and this nourishing yet purifying shampoo gently cleanses away dirt and impurities from the hair. The texture looks and feels like a lightweight oil but it transforms into a soft lather when in contact with water and leaves the hair feeling refreshed. I wash my hair twice with the shampoo and the first time the lather is almost non-existing because of the sulphate-free formula but the second time it lathers beautifully without being too foamy. Like I’ve mentioned, it’s free from silicones, sulphates and parabens, this is a great alternative to many shampoos that can leave the hair stripped, especially if it’s colour-treated.

Kérastase Aura Botanica Soin Fondamental Conditioner* (340 kr)
For me, this is something between a conditioner and a hair mask because the texture is rich but lightweight at the same time. This deeply moisturising 97% naturally derived conditioner delivers intense nourishment and frizz-fighting benefits, thanks to the Coconut, Argan and Sweet Orange Oils added to the formula. Out of all four products, this is the one that really detangles my hair to leave it feeling smooth and easy to brush. Even people around me notice the difference in the texture and shine of my hair when I use the conditioner, so it’s definitely worth not skipping this step.

Kérastase Aura Botanica Essence d’Éclat* (370 kr)
The leave-in conditioner in the range or as you already might know, one of my favourite hair products in general. I love hair mists just as much as face ones. Formulated with 99% natural origin ingredients and free from silicone, this incredibly lightweight bi-phase mist formula combines four nutritious oils: Jojoba, Avocado, Coconut and Argan with an aqueous solution (and we know that usually oil and water don’t mix). The two layers work in synergy to infuse hair with nutrition and moisture while fighting frizz. It can be used as a styling product before blow-drying the hair or as a finishing mist to enhance softness and shine, I’m a bit addicted to this mist, so I use it both ways. On day two I’d spritz it on dry hair to revitalise it after using dry shampoo, for example, it’s a great finishing touch.

The scent of all four products in the Aura Botanica range is simply divine, it’s subtle and spa like, has a hint of citrus notes and feels very uplifting.
The products do an excellent job on either my natural hair or after colouring it, so I’m really happy to have nourished and glossy locks.

It’s great to see a brand such as Kérastase investing in a more natural approach to haircare. And when the final result is beautiful, shiny and tangle-free hair with a lovely scent to it, then there’s nothing more we could possibly want.
