First time when I mentioned the new anti-pollution trend in skincare was here when I shared with you my evening moisturiser from Clinique. Then, I found out about the new REN face mist here and now I’m back with a new product following the trend.
Pollution is damaging our skin and that’s why we should cleanse it well and make sure it’s free from impurities which can lead to long-term damage and premature ageing. Pollution, smoke and other environmental toxins can put stress on our skin and cause clogged pores, increase the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots, as well as loss of elasticity.
There is a new skincare duo from Clinique that aims to neutralise pollution’s harsh effects while controlling excess oil. The two products are City Block Purifying Charcoal Cleansing Gel and City Block Purifying Charcoal Clay Mask + Scrub.
Today I’m going to be talking about the Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Clay Mask + Scrub* because the brand kindly sent to me both products to test but Norwegian posts were not so kind and my package was almost destroyed when it arrived, there was content missing but they said they couldn’t do anything about it. The products were not available in stores back then, so I haven’t had the time to purchase the cleansing gel and give it a good try.
I’ve been using Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Clay Mask + Scrub* for over a month now and I’m ready to share my experience and thoughts with you. Like all Clinique products, this one is fragrance-free and allergy tested, too. I love using clay masks once or twice a weak, as they purify my combination skin and make it look smoother and more radiant.
Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Clay Mask + Scrub* comes in a squeeze tube which is really comfortable to use. The texture of the product is relatively thick, paste-like and slightly gritty. It’s pale gray but turns light blue as it dries. The mask needs only 5 minutes to do its job which makes it perfect for days when you’re in a rush or you’re really tired but still want to pamper your skin.
Once the face mask starts to dry, it feels a bit tight but it’s nothing uncomfortable or painful. It’s relatively easy to wash off, the warm water activates the exfoliating properties of the face mask and the skin feels very soft and smooth afterwards.
This charcoal clay mask and scrub works quickly to remove impurities while also removing excess oil and reducing the appearance of large pores.
There are several main ingredients:
Natural Bamboo Charcoal – It’s a natural ingredient that attracts pollutants and other impurities out of the skin like a magnet, trapping them so they can be easily rinsed off the face;
Disodium EDTA – Guards the skin against harmful environmental chemicals and metals;
Kaolin – Natural clay that absorbs excess sebum, helping to make skin appear smooth and matte;
Laminaria Saccharina Extract – Brown Algae extract that helps to minimise excess sebum production, resulting in less surface oil over time;
Gentiana Lutea (Gentian) Root Extract – An extract native to the mountains of central and southern Europe that protects skin, especially lipids from oxidative damage while also providing anti-inflammatory benefits;
Sucrose – A natural ingredient that helps soothe the skin;
Acetyl Glucosamine – An amino sugar that promotes and regulates cell turnover.
I have to say, the Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Clay Mask + Scrub* is now one of my top 3 favourite clay masks because it really does remove impurities but without making my skin dry or irritated. It’s also easy to wash off, provides gentle exfoliation and needs only 5 minutes to work. The retail price in Norway is 390 kr which is quite pricey but I really don’t need much for one application and considering both, my favourite Origins clay mask and this one are 100 ml, it’s going to last me a very long time.
This face mask definitely brightens up my complexion and I think it’s great for people with oily and combination skin. I wouldn’t use it if I have active breakouts though because of the beads in it but I love how this product contains gentle, plant-based soothing ingredients.
Have you tried any of the new Clinique skincare products?
