When a new skincare post or photo pops up on my feed, I leave everything I’m doing to see what other people use and how it works on them. These are some of my favourite blog posts to read, so I decided to share my current skincare routine with you.
I try to keep my morning rituals quite simple and especially now that summer’s here, I’m using just a few products after I wake up. My skin is combination, so I always wash my face first thing in the morning, I just can’t go with a swipe of micellar water because it would still feel oily and not clean. At the moment I’m using the Boots Tea Tree & Witch Hazel Refreshing Jelly Facial Wash because it cleanses my skin but it’s not too foamy and doesn’t leave my face dry or irritated. I have to say, this one doesn’t have the best ingredients list but I haven’t had any problems with it, so far, I simply avoid applying it around the eyes and I use it only in the morning. It has a very interesting texture, bouncy and light. This cleanser makes my skin very soft, it also fights spot causing bacteria and keeps the skin shine-free for a while but I wouldn’t rely on it throughout the whole day.
I’ve always loved toners, facial mists and floral waters, so I never skip this step. My Clarins Alcohol-Free Toning Lotion with Iris bottle is now almost empty but what I like about it is that is mild and soothing, feels refreshing and prepares the skin for the rest of the steps.
Another product that is almost used up is my beloved Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream* and I can’t wait to get another tube of it because it’s one of the best eye creams I’ve ever tried. It’s hydrating but lightweight, it’s also a great base for my concealers which is very important for me. It doesn’t erase my dark circles but honestly, no eye cream has ever done this, however, it does make my eye area a bit brighter and fresh if I use it every day. You can read more about the eye cream here.
Lancôme Énergie De Vie The Smoothing & Glow Boosting Liquid Care has been my morning moisturiser in the past few weeks. The texture is something like a serum, it feels very light on the skin and absorbs almost immediately after application. I like that it comes in a glass bottle with a pump although it might not be the best for travelling. It gives me hydration and I don’t need using something else on top of this moisturiser but if your skin is more dry, I think this won’t be enough for you. Also, I’d use this one underneath a more rich cream in the winter. I’ve done a full review on this product here. Most of my foundations have SPF added to them, so on a normal day, I would use just them but if my base doesn’t have an SPF, I’d apply a sunscreen before putting my make-up on.
Last but not least, lip balm. I like using Bobbi Brown Lip Balm SPF 15 in the morning because it has a delicate rose scent, it feels silky on the lips and has sun protection.
This is my simple summer morning skincare routine, I also like to start my days with a cup of warm water with lemon and ginger and then drink plenty of water during the day. Skincare products are important but good sleep, staying hydrated and eating well are a few more steps to the healthy-looking skin we all want.
