Origins face masks are probably the best ones out there, so it’s only natural to be intrigued by their first Maskimizer Skin-Optimising Mask Primer. I’ve been using this mask primer for almost a month now and I’m here to share my experience with you.
The concept is quite interesting, the product is a facial spray with a Marine Algae Complex to hydrate and soften the skin and open the pores, so that the mask can spread evenly on the face and ”enhance the mask experience”. It’s recommended for normal to oily skin types and it’s suitable for use with clay, cream or sheet masks (It’s suggested not to use with peel-off masks). The formula is free from parabens, sulfates and phthalates.
You have to spray the product over clean skin, lightly pat in and apply the mask. Be sure to close your eyes before spraying because it’s really stingy, I actually feel a slight warming (not burning) around my lips every time when I apply it. The masks indeed go evenly after that and the skin feels soft but I have mixed feelings.
First of all, we love masks exactly because of their instant effect. We can notice a difference right after taking it off, so I’m not sure if a mask primer can actually make the results even better. My honest opinion is that my skin reacts to the masks the same way, with or without the primer. Because my favourite masks just do the job for me and my skin.
Before applying a face mask, skin should always be cleansed which means that pores are already open thanks to the warm water and the cleanser of choice.
As to the softening properties and the even application, I usually achieve this by leaving my skin a bit damp after the toning step in my skincare routine or simply by spraying thermal water mist all over the face. I do one of these always before applying a face mask and it has exactly the same effect as the Maskimizer Skin-Optimising Mask Primer for me. Also, removing the face masks hasn’t changed for me, it’s neither easier nor harder.
Origins Maskimizer Skin-Optimising Mask Primer may have benefits for your skin and may change your mask experience but it just didn’t change mine. I like how it softens and hydrates the skin and makes the application go smoother and easier but I’ve been using other products for years that work just as good and that’s why I don’t think it’s a must-have product for me.
I love Origins face masks, I’m talking about them all the time, I’m really curious about their new By All Greens Foaming Deep Cleansing Mask and I will finish the primer bottle but I don’t think I’d get another one of it.
Have you tried the Origins Maskimizer Skin-Optimising Mask Primer?
